Exercises Involving My Cat
I've been doing really well with my workouts, but recently my cat Mumm-Ra has started interferring with my exercise. He jumps on me as I workout, and if I lock Mummsy Wummsy out of the room he shrieks like a banshee. If I leave the house to exercise, he breaks things to show me how mad he is. This is really sabotaging my progress, and the only thing I can think of doing is to start involving the Mumminator in my exercises. If I involve him, he's generally fine. I found this book in the bargain bin, and it's given me some ideas, but I'd love more suggestions on how I can involve Mister Mummster in my workouts.

You could use him instead of a 5lb Kettlebell I suppose. I'm sure he'd love those swings and windmills!0

I try to lift heavy, but Mumm-Ra just doesn't weigh enough. I may need to get more cats of different weights. My neighbor has offered to let me use her cat, Mongo the Merciless.
Any recommendations on the heaviest types of cats to lift?0 -
I feel your pain!
I started the pushup challenge and my cat Betty thinks it's an invitation to snuggle... So she climbs underneath me as soon as I push up!
I have yelled at her and pushed her away bit that hurt her feelings. I usually do my pushups in my bedroom, living room or kitchen and none of those rooms have doors. Lol
Now I try to do them as soon as I've fed her dinner. Its working better!0 -
That's a cat??!! Wow - what do you feed cats on over there?0

There seems to suddenly be a lot of odd cat threads. Is this an April fool?0

I was thinking the same thing!! LOL0 -
I'd advise simply feeding the cat more until it weighs an appropriate amount to be used as a barbell. A steady diet of rodents and small children should help it beef up.0

Mine like to sit on my tunny when I try to do sit-ups, and one has a horrible habit of running under my weights when I'm doing dealifts. I worried I'm going to drop them on her :ohwell:
I never thought of using them as part of the exercise though. Might look into it. :drinker:0 -
I would not come out alive if I tried that any of that with my cat.0 -
That cat is all fluff, it's not going to really give you the weight you need, unless you are looking for low weight, high rep work! See, you need one with more heft to it. If you can find one like this, that will work better for you:

That is exactly the kind of cat I need for my overhead press. I'm going to have to ask around at the next Cat Club meeting.0 -
oh my goodness...my life is complete.0 -
That is inspirational! It gives me a sense that this can be done. Do you think the cat is declawed?0 -

I think the heaviest type of cat is a maine coon, which is what your neighbour has.
I have a friend who is a breeder, she is in Australia, but I'm sure she'll be able to put you in contact with US breeders.

I know that when I started out exercising with Chairman Meow, this book was a life saver! http://www.amazon.com/Dancing-Cats-Creators-International-Seller/dp/0811824152

Holy crap!
I lift my cats...and my 8 month old baby. Gotta go what you gotta do. Both of the cats are close to 15lbs though.
My younger cat likes to try to help when I'm playing WiiFit...I'll be in the middle of a yoga pose, trying to balance on 1 leg, and he thinks that's a good tome to start rubbing on my leg, with those tickly whiskers.0 -
Thanks! I think I will order several cats in different weights.0

I had a Main Coon when I was younger, she was really fluffy. And that breed gets fat!! She would make the bed shake when she jumped on, but after a while, she couldn't make it up onto the bed anymore. My dad built her a ramp, that worked for a bit. I don't think I would have wanted to use her as my weight in lifting, although, if I did, I might not need to be on MFP!0

This looks like a great book. I see all these people on my newsfeed doing Zumba. It seems like a fantastic way to workout. I do have a question though. I found this picture on the "Dancing with Cats" website. Do I need four cats, or can I do this with just one cat?

I think it would be more fun with more cats. I mean, look at how much fun everybody in that picture is having!0

If I want to keep lifting progessively heavier cats, this sounds like the perfect breed.0 -
I put my cat in one of the slots of my weighted vest. He loves it there. He can feel my heart beat.0

I like to swim laps at least once a week. Can cats swim laps? I've seen pictures of swimming cats, but they don't look very happy...
