I did my first ever hike yesterday in the Adirondacks in N.Y., scarface mtn. 7 miles!!0
-
3 miles today for me!
What do you think if we walk southwards a bit more, and then west? I'd like to visit the Grand Canyon :-)0 -
:drinker: The Grand Canyon is a Great Idea. If we go to the West Rim we can Walk on the Glass Bridge "Sky Walk".0
-
Grand Canyon is a great idea though it will take us a while as it 2199 miles. We'll have to tick off the states as we walk through them0
-
We could have some goals in betwenn, so that there are some achievements to keep us motivated, and just go in the direction of the Grand Canyon for now?
For example, Washington, Nashville, Memphis, Oklahoma City, Albuquerque.
Or we could take a more southern route.0 -
I like the idea of "Sight Seeing" through the States. That could be a Lot of Fun. I like the Oklahoma City route of course but would a different route go close to some of you?0
-
Not me cos I'm done under in Australia, but if one of you wants to nominate a city on the way, I can calculate the miles using google maps and we can just walk to each in turn so it doesn't feel like we are walking for no reward.0
-
sounds like fun. I live near Nashville, TN. My husband and I hike during spring and fall break in the Smoky Mountains. Right now I need to walk or workout to get ready for the longer hikes, so I'd like to join the challenge if it is still open.0

sorry, I skipped to page 7 but I love to hike. Any decent mountain around I'll have a crack at. My local ones are Mt Coolum
Mt Pomona
Mt Ninderry
and Mt Tibrogargan (more of a climb)
Doing Mt Pomona tomorrow as long as the weather is ok.
Doing this in a few months http://kingofthemountain.com.au/ with a group of friends in morph suits as ninjas :happy:0 -
Lora and Chris, you are welcome to join us. Chris, that scenery looks fabulous. I'm not into climbing and there is nothing near me that you would call a hill let alone a mountain. But there are some fabulous walking tracks including the Bibbulmun Track which stretches over 1000km.0

I live in Austria, so we won't come near to my place.
I love playing around with Google maps, so I started with a possible route for us - just as a suggestion, of course I can always change it as you like!
This is how far we have come yet:
Boston - New York - Baltimore: 212+187 = 399 miles
And this is a route to the Grand Canyon:
link: http://goo.gl/maps/TF4pB
Baltimore - Washington: 38 miles (rather short...)
Washington - Nashville: 664 miles (rather long, perhaps a stop in between would be nice?)
Nashville - Memphis: 217 miles
Memphis - Oklahoma City: 511 miles
OklahomeaCity - Albuquerque: 575 miles
Albuquerque - Grand Canyon: 386 miles
Mileage is calculated for going by foot, it is a bit more than when going by car.0 -

Hiking for 500kms???!!! Holy ****. I'm more suited to the shorter, quicker stuff
Climbed MT Pomona this morning with some friends. First time I've done it in the rain! Was above the clouds when we got to the top! Pretty cruisey for most of it and then I just wanted to go quick despite the rain. It actually wasn't that slippery anyway as it's normally quite dusty up there. Legs were on fire when i got to the top!0 -
Well done Chris. Its meant to be a great hike and you sure look happy about making it up there
Welcome Maalea and thanks for doing the map.
As this is a virtual hike and a team effort, we are not really hiking the trail but recorded each walk we do to build towards reaching our destination and to keep us motivated.
I have a cold at the moment so my hike today was cancelled and yesterday's was shortened, but I can start us off with 4 miles.0 -
I add another 3 miles!
So team total (since Baltimore): 7.0 miles
Wahelga - hope you already feel better!0 -
:drinker: Thanks Maalea for creating the Maps!! I like the second one the best, for what it is worth. I will add my miles this evening.0
-

5.74 Miles Sunday and
3.99 Miles Monday
Total = 12 Miles0 -
I managed a measely 2 miles thanks to a cold (hardly worth recording) but it does mean our team total is now 21 miles :laugh:0

Wednesday - 2.56 Miles

Sorry for being absent so long - you probably know that we had a big flood in Central Europe. Fortunately, we have a very good flood protection system in Vienna, but other regions did not fare so good, and I was busy helping my parents and friends to deal with it...
All in all, I can only add 9.8 miles for this week:
Team total: 50.77 miles!
Edit: Did you notice, we are already past Washington D.C.!0 -
I am glad that you are Safe and that you are able to help your Parents. As long as you all are Safe the rest of it is Just "Stuff"
0 -
Glad you and your family are safe Maalea, that is all that really counts as things can be replaced.
I can add a further 20 miles, so that takes us to 70.77 miles. We are really powering along0 -
FRIDAY - 3.92 Miles
SATURDAY - 11.21 Miles (7.26 on the Recumbent Bike)
Team Total = 85.9 Miles
I just noticed Chris's Mountain Photos! I have never tried Mountain Climbing (have you seen Oklahoma?) but I have Friends who Love It. Might have to think about adding it to my Bucket List.0 -
Thank you both!
You are absolutely right, it was just stuff! And not so much water, just about 30 cm - no comparison to other towns where they had water up to the roof...
I can add 4.8 miles today, so we have 90.7 miles in total.0 -
:drinker: 5.35 Miles plus 90.7 Miles = 96.05 Miles!!
We will hit the Century Mark tomorrow, I imagine!!!0 -
and I can add 6.6 miles from yesterday, making us 102.65 miles and on the way to Nashville - ye-ha!
Baltimore - Washington: 38 miles (done)
Washington - Nashville: 664 miles (702 miles in total?)
Nashville - Memphis: 217 miles (919 miles in total)
Memphis - Oklahoma City: 511 miles (1430 miles in total)
OklahomeaCity - Albuquerque: 575 miles (2005 miles in total)
Albuquerque - Grand Canyon: 386 miles (2391 miles in total)0 -
MONDAY June 10 = 2.56 Miles + 102.65 = 105.21 Miles
Carry On, and remember your Sunscreen and Lots of Water Breaks!!0 -
As of Tuesday, June 11:
3.19 + 105.21 = 108.400
