Postmen/mail men and short

Does any one know why the postmen/mail men always wear shorts even when it rains or snows?

Ours wears a big thick waterproof jacket and shorts and marches through the snow?

Is it just a macho man thing?

Or do they not supply uniform trousers that fit?

    The mailman that comes to my office every day always wears shorts, too. Rain or shine. I've wondered about that.

    But do they go out after work in the shorts or is it just a parade when they deliver the mail?

    ETA, it actually DOES get cold here, and I've seen them in pants.

    I'm a part time postman...


    Just general preference in my office, also because to some especially during summer, it gets really, really hot and sweaty when your walking round 4 hours in the sun...

    During Winter, idk, people in my own office laugh at each other wearing them - guess its more of convenience because the longer trousers do bog down on you when you have a 15kg mail bag!

    (I wear long all year) :drinker:

    I think it depends a lot on where you're located. My postman doesn't walk around hauling a big bag full of mail. He drives from mailbox to mailbox and rarely gets out on foot. He'll really bunch the hell out of package to make it fit in the mailbox to avoid walking. But I've heard that the ones in Canada walk their routes?? Or maybe it depends on province, city, etc.
