We are going to Bike Week next month and camping the whole week. I will exercise daily, but do I really want to weigh everything I eat. I hope to stay in my daily calorie, but it's ok if I don't, as long as I don't go over too much. I wont be logging that week, but I will be mindfull of my choices.0

We are going in October (eeeeeeeeek) and I'm going to enjoy my time there I'm not going to count calories just make good choices and all the walking wow just think of the calorie burn! If I want ice cream I'm having it :-)0

I actually just went earlier this month - didn't watch eating at all beyond eating when hungry and eating normal portions, lost a pound just from all the walking around. Wear good supportive shoes and have fun!0

I went in September for a week and came back 4lbs down. It was 90 or higher every day, and we easily walked 5 miles every day, and spend several hours a day playing in a pool. I ate and ate and ate and still lost. Don't worry about it and have fun.0

The only thing that gets me on vacation is the salt. Restaurant food (even the healthier choices) are sooooo much higher in salt than anything I would ever prepare for myself. When we were at Disney in the fall, we had breakfast in the room most days, took in our own snacks and often lunch. I had sensible dinners and took the time to work out most days. Even still, I came home from vacation 5 lbs up because of the salt. I didn't panic, because I knew that sodium was to blame, and it came off in a week or so. Just keep sodium in mind when you are ordering.0

I didnt have any luck with that.... but what I put on while there came off quite quickly afterwards0

I live in Orlando- And worked at all the parks at one point or another.
You'll do lots of walking. Lots. When I take my niece and nephew parkhopping at Disney, we walk anywhere between 6-12 miles a day (depending on which kid is with me and how much park hopping we do). Plus standing in line... that burns calories too you know, especially when it's stupid hot outside.
Bring in healthy snacks and WATER. You'll have to go through a bag check but it's no big deal. You will want to eat somewhere in the park I'm sure, after a while the backpack food looses it's appeal, healthy or not. Plan it (sorta), decide if it's going to be lunch and/or dinner, and plan your snacks around it. I usually plan a late lunch with my nieces and nephews, and snack before and after.
Just be smart when you order when you are there- don't go crazy with sauces or deep fried food and you should be fine- there are a LOT of options at each park! Not sure which part of Disney you are going to, but if you are going to Epcot, eat there! a ton of choices and delicious!
Universal and Islands of Adventure have a couple greast sit down restaurants with decent choices (Mythos Restaurant & Confisco's Grill at Islands, Finnegans Bar and Grill and Lombard's Landing at Universal), plus great food in between at Citywalk with great food choices- even 2 Emeril's restaurants (one self titled, and one called Tchoup Chop located at The Royal pacific Resort on site).
Sea World has a great restaurant called Sharks. Unless Sharks scare the crap outta you, go there! The tables push up against the shark tanks and the bar tops are fish tanks.
In Orlando but outside of the parks are two areas with fantastic and fun restaurants. One is on International Drive (mid- to sound I-Drive, south of Sand Lake Road mainly) and the other is on Sand Lake Road (a few blocks from I-Drive) in an area nicknamed restaurant row. Loads of choices there- I mean, T-O-N-S! Even a season's 52 if you want to order something yummy and guarenteed to be low cal (their entire menu).
Agreed with another poster, and a tip: Salt will be the sneaky thing in all of your restaurant food, healthy or not. Just drink as much water as you can stand (for hydration and flushing the sodium), and when you get home- do yourself a big favor, and don't get on the scale for 2 full days. Drink a TON of water those two days, and at the end of the 3rd day, go ahead and check your weight. If you get on the scale before that, you'll see a gain that will guarentably be mostly water weight from the extra sodium.0 -
Thank you all for your replies. Extremely helpful and supportive0

I don't know who said this, but before you eat think, "nothing tastes as good as skinny feels." The other thing I do is weird, but it works for me  When I want something, I start thinking like I already had it and want more. For example, when I want a cookie, I ask myself, "Well, how would you handle this craving if you already had the cookie, but it was so good that you just can't say no to another and another? At some point you have to say no. What's the difference between saying no now and having to say it later? That usually get me through a couple hours :ohwell:
Definetely Im gonna practice that method. Thank you and the quote was by kate moss0 -

Not that Kate Moss is much of a roll model for healthy living. :grumble: That phrase is very popular with the pro-ana crowd.
Eat the cookie....one cookie. Drink a big glass of water, go for a walk, and feel GREAT about yourself.0 -
sticking with a diet is NOT allowed at DIsney jk. I always eat a huge salad at lunch to get in my veggies.
JUST ENJOY YOURSELF!!! if u wanna eat healthy then do so, if you wanna indulge do so too.
the mix up will be great to throw your body off from routine0 -

Going in October is awesome!! The Epcot Wine and Food Festival will be going on and it is SO much fun!!! You basically get 1 bite tastes at each of the countries...and the 20 or so others they bring in...for a small fee. Then you can pick and choose what you'd like and still do ok with your nutrition.0 -
I always lose on vacation - including at Disney.
There are lots of healthy food choices. If you want to indulge just make sure you don't go hog-wild. You're also walking a lot & most of the hotels have gyms.0 -
We will be going in 14 days & have the dining plan. I am going to split my quick service meals with my 6 year old daughter. I also have a 9 yr old boy & a 12 yr old boy but I don't think they will share. Lol. It really is so hot and busy you don't get hungry out of boredom! We are staying at Port Orleans, which is great for running from what I have read. I will do that at least once while there! It's funny how you just don't crave junk food after being without it for months.0

I went for a run my first morning on vacation in Florida. By the second day of wearing my Fitbit walking around the parks it was the first and only time of hitting the gym, lol. I walked an average of 22, 000 plus steps a day at the parks, ate reasonably (even burgers)without pigging out on all the junk and came back 2.5 pounds lighter. Have an awesome time !!0

At Epcot at Disney in The Land pavilion there are a TON of healthy options, so make sure you go there. At universal there are fruit carts in both parks which I have found very helpful. At seaworld, you can get a grilled chicken sandwich at about three different restaurants, and without mayo, plus a side of strawberries, it's low calorie and very filling. There are blogs that offer more in-depth info about food options at every park. The walking definitely takes the edge off of the calorie density too!!
Other than that, bring your own snacks and try to eat healthy when you can. If you can't eat a small portion and don't let it bother you. Disney has fantastic food. You should experience and enjoy it, even if you gain one measly pound0 -
If you are planning on fitting lots of fun in, then I think you will be fine on the weight loss. And when there is a healthy food option (which there almost always is), then take that. And it's always ok to take a break from the diet. Just make sure you are still health and weight conscious on that break.0

You walk so much while at Disney that I don't think you need to worry! You will also eat less as you don't have time to eat! I actually lost weight when I went to Disney!
Have fun!!0 -
I went with my sister and her kids a few years ago - we would order 2 or 3 lunches and split them among the 5 of us. Many of the items are the same from one area to the next - we found chicken strips and fries on every menu, so I'd eat a chicken strip and a few fries instead of a whole meal. Leaves you room for the Dole whip. Mmmmm. You can always order more if you find you are still hungry.
Lots of walking, definitely. Enjoy your vacation, eat in moderation and you can buckle down when you get back if you gain a pound or two.0 -
my first trip to Disneyworld last year - loved the parks but my only disappointment was with the choice of food. One consolation, two weeks can't do that much damage to your weight loss plans therefore just enjoy it.0

I didn't read the 3 pages, but I just got back from a trip to Disney and Seaworld and wore my fitbit. I averaged about 25,000 steps per day, about 10-12 miles, and wound up with over 3000 calories a day to eat. (I am 177 lbs, 37y/o, 6'1", ~10%BF). I actually lost weight on accident (maintaining) during the trip.
If you don't go completely crazy, you will be fine - just enjoy the trip and get back to normal the next week. I was eating as clean as I could at Disney aside from deserts (my weakness!) and had a hard time meeting my goals. There were a couple nights that by the time dinner rolled around it was 10pm and I was too tired to eat anything big - I just made sure I hit my protein intake every day and had a few 1000 calorie deficit days.0
