    So FYI everybody...

went to my doctor and I have a partial meniscus tear and severe strain. He is also sending me for x-rays to check for bone spurs since the same leg is clicking when he does range of motion. No exercise til Saturday and if so, take it easy. He told me to leave my knees alone, lol.

I'm glad I wasn't crazy!!! No more 30DS for me!
If you have a severe strain then you shouldn't exercise at all till it's healed. A strain is a damaged muscle.

I'm just going off of what my doctor told me, who manipulated my leg. It's not getting any better and it's 2 days later, but I also haven't been able to get a film taken since the imaging office is only open while I work.

Glad you got that checked !!!

I could only do 30DS 1-2 times a week for a while until I cross trained doing other things and could handle the knee pounding and lunges. I think it assumes a certain level of fitness, whether consciously or not. Cross trained and went back, having a much easier time, ready to move to level 2. No matter how much Jillian tells you that you have to push through, you also have to know yourself and what hurts.

I know at one point in that video...I think it's level one, she says something like "I have (high weight) pound people who can do this, so you can, too" ...something along those lines. I think it was during jumping jacks...it was some kind of jumping anyway. It certainly made me keep going, but it was also what made me hurt myself lol. She also clearly tells you that she won' t provide you with alternative or lower-impact moves, which I found completely unhelpful.

To the OP, glad you got it checked! Take it easy and do what you need to let it heal :)

I figured I'd post again here.

I went to an ortho specialist localized in the knee/leg. X-rays are clear, but where my pain is localized... they are pretty sure it's a partial or full tear in my lower meniscus. I'm waiting to get approved for an MRI. From there it's PT or surgery. GREAAAAAAAAAAAAAAT!

This guy is good too. He was like "Let me guess... weights and squats and lunges?"

    That really stinks!
I have a friend who is very fit (regular gym goer, in great shape, around 115 pounds) who did 30DS and also hurt her knee. So it's possible for any body to get injured doing this, basically. Not just someone getting back into working out or slightly out of shape. It must have something to do with the instructor and the technique!

Second guessing my plans to do it. Thanks for sharing.

Sorry I bummed you out! :( I had no idea it was going to be so intense on the knees, nor did I have any issues prior to the actual hurt of when it happened. I just assumed I was sore like everybody else in the beginning! Once I am healed, I will stick with my gym routines and dog walking. No more crazy workout DVD's!

I have knee problems(runner's knee) but still do 30DS almost every day. I give myself a day off for rest and foam rolling/stretching once a week. It's super important that you do the stretching at the end of each session. And I actually keep stretching well after JM is finished talking. With my knee problems I can't only stretch the quads for 5 seconds each. 20 seconds minimum each leg. I wear KT Tape for runner's knees during and ice both knees for 10-15 minutes afterwards with virtually no pain the rest of the day. Oh, and because of my knee problems I never try to keep up with the girls. I just focus on form so I don't injure myself further.
What is "runner's knee"? My knee's bother me from time to time. Im just getting into running. Is there anything to be concerned about or any precautions I should take?

Yea, there are so many things you can do that will get you the same results with lower impact. Hope you heal up fast!

I had to stop doing 30DS. It absolutely killed my knees. I don't think I even made it a week. If you already had lower back problems and now you're talking about a pain going straight down your leg then it could be your nerve. My fiance has had back surgery and before that he went through hell and back. He was having the same problem and that was 1 of them....the nerve. Good luck to you and I hope you start to feeling better.

No, it is not sciatic pain. The pain is localized to the outside of my right knee, which is the meniscus area. Sciatic pain runs through the sciatic nerve that goes straight down the middle of your thigh and through your knee. That I do get with my back injury, but it's 2 completely different types of pains and inabilities to move.

I had a prior knee injury that flares up with change if weather, certain movement and for no reason. I did 30DS in 6 weeks and am now on my 4th week of Extreme shed and shred. No problems here, and my knee has actually never felt better! Don't push yourself and do the alternative move if you have to. You could actually do a standing jack if jumping jacks are too hard on your knee

I can't do anything, lol. I just went for an MRI and I have a possible meniscus tear from this damn DVD. My body just can't handle it and I'm not willing to risk anything further for the sake of quick weight loss. Slow and steady this time around!
