Ave Maria of Course! I've heard it at many Funeral's, Amazing Grace.

But I really love this song: "I can only Imagine" by MercyMe http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0xwzItqYmII

I can only imagine what it will be like, when I walk by Your side...
I can only imagine, what my eyes will see, when Your Face is before me!
I can only imagine. I can only imagine.
Surrounded by Your Glory, what will my heart feel?
Will I dance for you, Jesus? Or in awe of You, be still?
Will I stand in Your presence, or to my knees will I fall?
Will I sing 'Hallelujah!'? Will I be able to speak at all?
I can only imagine! I can only imagine!

    Elton Johns' Rocket Man

As my ashes are blasted off into space obviously.

My funeral will also be fancy dress, and everyone will be given water bombs to throw at anybody who tries to read 'stop all the clocks' or utters the phrase "wind beneath my wings"

At the wake I will play 'three little birds' and have a reading of Dr Suess' 'Oh, The Places You'll Go'

    Feeling Good by Nina Simone

I never even thought of such a thing until I heard this song, which prompted me to immediately go "OMG this is what I want played at my funeral!" Oddly I think that's the best compliment I have :)

Oh, and someone said Johnny Cash "Aint no Grave". Hell yes, that too. I loooove some Johnny!

*edited to say that it is not a bad idea to pick these things out ahead of time... my friend died unexpectedly at 28 and they played Nickleback at his service. He would have been PISSED.

I have had my song picked out for a very long time. It is Rod Stewart singing Forever Young. This just sums up who I am and what I hope to leave behind for those two people in my life that I love with all my being.

H,mmm an interesting thought. I never considered a song. I'll have to talk to my girl about that. We plan on dying together.

That way we can go into the same casket and I can hold her forever.

This worries me a little bit.

Either Fade to Black by Metallica or In this Rive by Zakk Wylde. Or both, And probably want some Pantera thrown in there. Everyone that knows me knows how much music means to me and is a big part of my life. Why cry when they can all have a beer and listen to some good tunes remembering all the stupid things Ive done.

It's definitely got to be "Alive and Kicking" by Simple Minds. I love it when people are uncomfortable and, glancing sideways at each other with their eyebrow arched. Unfortunately, I won't be able to enjoy it ..so, I'll just have to pre-reminisce about it now ! !

"Lived in Bars" by Cat Power. I have been a bartender for 18 years, even on the side when I was in professional positions in higher ed and banking. I love it.
