I can't decide which to try. At the moment I don't exercise at all. I need some inspiration.

Try both?
I havent done any spinning, but Zumba is fun.. it doesn't even feel like a workout.. :flowerforyou:0 -
I'm really afraid to try spinning, I heard it was super hard....0

I use to be afraid of Spin because I heard how hard it was and I am not a fan of biking. My fiance made me try one class and I got hooked. While it might look intimidating it really isn't because you control how high your resistance is and no one even knows if you decide not to turn it up when the instructor says so. It is a great workout for your legs and abs. Plus it has really improved my posture. I was in good cardio shape before, I run marathons, but it increased my cardio ability and was a great way to cross train as it is low impact. I now spin at least 3 times a week!0

I love zumba. Its fun.0

I love Zumba!0

52lbs with Zumba. :-) My before/after is on my page (yes, I gained 2lbs this week. haha!)0

I absolutely love spinning. I find it an excellent alternative cardio and easy on the joints. I was quickly hooked and bought my own spin bike which I use all the time at home. Excellent cardio burn.0

I enjoy Zumba so much more than spinning. It doesn't feel like a work out, it is a lot of fun, and with all the endorphins pumping through my blood stream I have more energy. Spinning just made me feel like I was being tortured. Those tiny seats are WAY too uncomfortable.0

Zumba is awesome! I have it on the WII and LOVE it.0

I started Zumba in January and now try to go 3-4 times per week. I have dropped 25 pounds and 2 pants sizes. I absolutely love it. Be forewarned though, there is a little learning curve so don't give up! I used to stand in the back and now get annoyed if I have to stand there! It's a great workout and I leave exhilarated and dripping in sweat.0

Do something you enjoy.0

I do both. Zumba is fun, and spinning is low impact and you can modify if you need to make it not as hard. I burn roughly 600-700/class in both, so no difference there. Try both, and keep doing what you like!0

If you currently don't exercise, I would recommend Zumba. I did Zumba for a year before I attempted anything else at the gym. My first spin class, I about died! Then I took two months actively working out, lifting weights and tried spin again and the class was much easier. The hardest part is getting used to the uncomfortable seat0

I find Zumba a lot more fun but I do like spinning as its a great workout. When I started back to exercise after almost 2 years off, I did Zumba 3-4 times a week. I still find it the most fun but I have incorporated other exercise too as I've gotten in better shape.0

Love spinning pretty much the only exercise I have been doing and down 70lbs.0

I love zumba! I tried my first spinning class last week (because my fav zumba teacher teaches it!). It was tough, but I liked it and plan on adding it to my weekly routine. I say try them both (maybe with several different instructors) and see what you like. You'll be more likely to stick to it if you enjoy it!0

Try them both.
I don't like spinning (so far), but I may try it again some time.
I LOVE Zumba.
Now that I've lost almost 40 pounds and I've strengthened my legs by a lot of walking and running, I might be able to do a spin class.
The best exercise for you is the one you'll do. (Or the two you'll do if you decide you like both!)0 -
Do zumba, it's easy, you won't even notice you're exercising.0

Hi there.
Former Zumba/Spinning addict here.
It was a long hard road but I finally got off the wagon about 6 months ago and decided to start lifting heavy. Sometimes it's a little hard going to the gym and seeing people on their Spinning bikes. Or a girl walking into the lockers all sweaty. I think 'She probably just got out of a Zumba class'. But overall it may be hard but I'm willing to fight that battle every day.
I'm also here to help support anyone else trying to give up Zumba/Spinning. It's an uphill battle but you can do it. I'm living proof.

But why give up zumba/spinning? You can do cardio daily and add them with weight training a few days a week.0
-
try everything
I have done zumba with my wife at the club and it was fun. I spin minimum 4x a week and its a great cardio workout with
fun music.
but body pump is my favorite..0 -
I do spinning because I have zero co-ordination.
It is as hard as you make it - you are in control of the bike and how hard you want to push yourself.
You could take all the tension off and just cruise through 45 minutes without breaking a sweat if you really wanted to...0 -
LOVE spinning....did it to keep my bike legs over the winter....really improved my leg strength going up hills on my outside bike....great sweat and you adjust the tension according to what you can handle....easier on my knees than Zumba which has alot of hopping and side to side motion....there is a learning curve with Zumba too whereas the spinning classes there is not .... just make sure your spin instructor adjusts your bike correctly and enjoy!0

I love spinning. I used to watch the class and think it would be impossible but actually it's great for a newbie.
Usually the room is dark and everyone is facing the instructor and can't see you so grab a bike at the back.
Also you're in controll of how hard it is. You need to keep your legs moving for an hour but if you dont add any resistance on your bike then just moving your legs is easy. Then as you build up your stamina you add more resistance.
Try it. You'll only know if you like it once you've done it.0 -
I absolutely LOVE Zumba!! I've done it at home but I started going to a fitness studio. I've lost 27lbs and 9 inches!!! I love it so much I want to be trained to teach it!! YOU CAN DO IT!!0
-
I did Zumba for a couple of years. It does take coordination and I would say about your 3rd class you are comfortable with the moves. I like to change things up and started doing spin a year ago and now addicted. The first time the seat does kill your butt. I invested in a $15 bike seat cover with cushion. Some gals just have gotten use to it. I now only do spin and burn approximately 200 to 300 calories in 1 hour more than Zumba does but I think that happens when our body gets use to a class. Your teachers will make a difference too. Good luck but I think I would try both two or three time each and make a decision from there.0

I'm really afraid to try spinning, I heard it was super hard....
It's as hard as you make it and you get stronger and fitter as you progress
in a 60 min spin class i hit on average 955 calories burned (5' 11, now 209 lbs (I was 225 a month ago))
But agree with others do both as it's good to change it up and confuse your body i do spin and circuit classes for cardio and a lifting plan on other days0 -
With Zumba, times just flies. you are either too busy having fun, or trying to learn the moves the whole time, and 20 minutes on the treadmill, I'm like, this is really repetitive. and my arms are sore from running. I do get stronger running, but the clock is slow to move, with Zumba. I hardly knew the time has pass and it's 900 calories logged (HRM) Awesome.0
