It doesn't bother me any when people call me "hon". I never saw it as "flirtatious" just friendly. It's not like people are calling me "baby", Which probably wouldn't bother me anyway

Drives me crazy! I'm an adult educator and some of my students call me "Hon" and it feels like they're trying to let me know they're dominant. I don't say anything, though, I probably should.

I HATE PEOPLE WHO SAY THAT! Especially if we're similar in age.

    THIS.
I'm like... really? You haven't any authority over me. "Hon" seems to connote superiority, especially in terms of age. Some girl in my drama club drives me mad when she calls me that.

Make s me wonder what the long, over thought answer is.

Purely reactive ~ 2nd feature of this very topic on this forum.

I love going to a diner and having the waitress call me, "Hon". Why, yes ma'am, I'd love another cup of coffee!

"Nice job, hon" does not strike me as flirty. It strikes me as something an elderly person would say to me. Unless that's how you roll...

When people (meaning strangers) call me "Hun" it makes me want to punch them in the face. I can't stand it.

Well hon, since I'm from the South and we call everyone Hon, Presious, Sweetie pie etc. I dont find it offensive. Its a way of life.

It doesn't bother me. I think it's endearing. I wouldn't say it personally, though (it's just not my style).

I only don't like it when people are being annoying, condescending or jerky when they say it. Or if I don't like them.

But, if they are genuine, and endearing. It can be sweet.

I once worked with this old lady that was hateful and mean and added hon to everything she said like that somehow made it all better (it didn't).
But i don't mind if its just someone trying to be nice.

I hate it too. I dunno if it's because it feels condescending or if it's just how the word sounds but yes. It annoys.

Isn't it short for honey and people just started saying hon instead, what's so bad about that?

I actually call my husband "Hon" or "Honey" more than I use his name. For some, it's a term of endearment. For others, it's flirting. For still others, it's just how they talk. Ever been to a Waffle House? If you go to a WaHo in the south (GA, SC, NC, etc) and no one calls you Hon, leave.
It's all in how and where it's said. There are guys who can call my Hon and it's perfectly fine. Others make my skin crawl.

Yeah, no. I say "hon" all the time and it doesn't mean I am flirting with someone when I say it. It's no different than saying "sweetie" or something else. Lol.
