The dumbest diet you ever tried?

The most insane diet I ever tried was in the 1970s, maybe mid to late '70s. It was one of those diet plans people were selling from home. You couldn't get it in a store. A friend of mine started selling it and came to my home and gave me a little lecture on how to do it. It was insane. It was a fad. It was one of those diet drink diets. And when you did get to eat, it was weird.
ALSO, they said not to drink any water for a few days, just the two or three diet drinks, and no food at first either. I wound up so sick and weak the third day my husband had to miss work for half a day because I couldn't get out of bed to care for the kids. He was bringing me small drinks of water, often, and bites of food. I was finally able to get up and be okay, although weak the rest of that day.
A few weeks later a neighbor died while on that diet. It was so sad. Her little boy came home from kindergarten and found her on the laundry room floor. I felt so bad for that family. And my family was relieved I had gone off that diet. Never again have I been on one that crazy.0 -
I've never done any 'set' diet, but my family makes this soup/stew/concoction thing (it's a sort of cabbage made in boiled water and seasonings) and I went on a diet with that. It's delicious, but I managed to go for a few days only eating that, but eventually gave up. Firstly, eating only one thing, three times a day, and you'll never want to eat it again. Secondly, I love meat so I ALWAYS felt hungry even after eating. And lastly, it made me feel sick after day two.0

When I was in highschool I tried some pretty terrible diets, here are a few of my worst:
Celebrity slim, a two meal replacement shake diet, I ended up just gorging myself for dinner every night to compensate for how STARVING I was during the day. I still get emails from them asking me to sign up again to this day. Oh yeah, and I totally had to buy EVERYTHING to use the program; the books, the shaker cups, every flavor they carried, the special "plateau" breaker shakes.. I facepalm every time I think about how much money I wasted.
I did Tony Fergusson on and off for a while. I dropped a lot of weight initially but it was not sustainable. They don't take account of exercise in the program and for someone who was exercising daily (sometimes twice daily) it was like eating almost nothing. Not to mention the cost $4.25 each shake - what a rip off0 -
1. Meal replacement bars. They made nice snacks.
2. The low fat craze did that for a long time and I gained a lot of weight.
3. The skip breakfast, eat a light lunch and binge at night diet. It was supposed to be skip breakfast, eat a light lunch, and a sensible dinner diet, but it did not work out that way.0 -
I think the dumbest thing I ever fell for was eating those stupid Hoodia pills. I am not even sure what exactly they were supposed to do, but all they actually did was lessen the weight of my wallet.0

I took Hydroxycut for like 2 days and thought I was going to die. Waste of moneeeeey.0
-
Lipotrim.......thought I was going to die  lost 13lbs in 5 days.........put on 18lbs in 14 days :noway:
Awful diet!! My mother's hair fell out doing this.
I have tried silly diets in the past such as meal replacement shakes, or replacing two meals with breakfast cereal. Healthy eating is much more fun!0 -
I've lost weight before with low-calorie, minimal-exercise diets, but that makes me tired, hungry, and in a perma-bad mood. It's SO much easier to eat normal amounts of healthy food + exercise.0

Did Herbalife, lost weight, missed eating solid food, gained everything back and plus some
I've taken Hydroxycut, OxyElitePro, Dexatrim, Hoodia pills, etc; lost weight, gained more back
48hr cleanse, pooped and starved for 3 days, lost 10, gained 15
very low cal, 200-500 cals a day consisting mostly of tomato, cottage cheese, rice cakes and diet coke; dropped a bunch of pounds, binged, purged, killed my metabolism and started a very unhealthy relationship with food, kicked the ED habits (mostly, still struggle sometimes) and gained more weight
Mother in law tried to get me to do the master cleanse thing with her (the lemonade thing) and I wisely turned it down.0 -
Ive tried HCG awful. But the worst was when I went with a co-worker and we got our ears stapled to lose weight. It hurt and a week later was so infected they had to pry the staple out it was terrible!!!!!0

When I was in high school, there was two weeks where I would eat one piece of cheese each day, and sometimes add in a pack of starburst. I lost a bit of weight, but once I started eating more I gained it all back.0

i've never been on a diet but i remember my mom doing some when i was growing up. nothing drastic though. weight watchers more often than anything else. i remember slim fast happening also.
we had two family friends die from complications of extreme diets when i was a child so that kind of thing always scared me.0 -

I tried the cabbage soup diet...about 20 years ago0

Gosh, there are SO many! I guess I would have to say the "banana, hot dog, and egg diet". It's three days, all you eat one day is bananas, the next day hot dogs, the next day eggs (the order may be off, I don't remember). Anyway, I got through two days. To this day, I hate bananas, and I like them before that "diet". This was back in high school.0

The MEAEL diet. It stands for Move Extra and Eat Less.
If that's all it took don't you think everybody would be thin?0 -
The worst I ever did was the cabbage soup diet in the early 90's... OMG, not only did it taste horrible, but after a day and a half I got sooooooooooooooooooo sick! Almost ended up in the hospital because of dehydration!0

I tried the cabbage soup diet when I was in high school. I'm not sure what I was thinking...boy that was a recipe for disaster (also, I lost no weight.)0

3 day Army diet! Yeah right!0

When I was 20 I tried some diet with a coworker....I think it was called the First Personal Diet? They tested your specific blood and came up with a meal plan for you. Was just specific meats and veggies, that you had to weigh before you cooked them. And lots of water and you could have like 6 saltines a day. And all the aspartame based diet soda you wanted?
And you weren't supposed to exercise.
I made it like 2 months and didn't lose a pound but damn was I miserable.0 -

Haha it never works out that way, does it?0 -
I tried the Green Tea Diet and the Grapefruit Diet as a teen - ridiculous especially because I wish I was that "fat" now
Atkins - lost 30lbs in 3 months, but who wouldn't if you were a sugar- and carb-oholic like I was
Hydroxycut w/ephedrine in combo with "mad cardio" - I seriously crashed for 2 weeks after I stopped taking it
Thank God I'm done with dieting0 -
Soup and water. Me wasn't smart0
-
I think it was called the Hollywood diet, ate nothing but pineapple for days, then kiwifruit, then something else, I swear I was pooping kiwifruit seeds for days! LOL.....very unrealistic to keep up...0
-
I ate nothing but microwaved cooked thick sliced bacon and string cheese for weeks....dropped a ton of weight on it....never gained it all back. I blame the high protein. I wouldn't be able to get by with such a diet these days, not to mention I am vegetarian now.0

Yes they put staples on the inside of your ears and it was supposed to block the message to your brain telling you that you were hungry lol0 -
I never really tried any specific diets, however, I believed some pretty stupid *kitten*.
I thought that I could not eat past 8pm at night. I now eat up until 11pm, about an hour before I usually go to bed.
I used to think that I had to cut out junk food. Now I have ice cream almost EVERY day for breakfast, (sometimes twice a day). As long as it fits within my calorie goal, and I hit my target protein and fat numbers, I eat whatever the hell I want and it's fabulous.0 -
There was this eating plan that my mom had gotten w/the cabbage soup diet and I lost just doing the plan because frankly the soup was nasty but it was all set to diff days as to what you could have. Then I tried the grapefruit diet and I hate eggs so that def didn't work out for me, i was thinking I could substitute something else for the egg! epic fail0
