Hello Melodyg! I don't have many friends so I will add you.

Its tough finding exercise to do with children around isn't it! I started running a little while back and was training for a 5K race, but as I got to the end of my training I started getting pain in my knees. The doctor said I have to find something with less impact. My other half changed his job so the hours changed and that means that any exercise I do needs to be done with the children around too.

I have been doing some rebounding (jumping on the mini trampoline) and the girls go on their trampoline. Or I got given a rower which I do some on while we watch a dvd or something. But the thing the girls most love is going for bike rides to see various people. I have a double trailer on the back of my bike and during my days offf we hook up the trailer and go for a ride! When I first started I could only ride about half a mile out of the village before turning round exhausted and coming back again! But now I can bike about 15 miles or so (depending on how many hills there are!) When I was bigger and didn't feel comfortable on a bike I used to walk. Can your 4yr old ride a bike while you walk along with him? Maybe one with a parent handle so you can keep him going!

Hello to everyone else! You can add me as a friend if anyone wants to! Could always use more friends!

Nicole ~ Iodine?! Tell me more! I wish I could do the walk/run thing on my long ones, but once I stop, it's really hard for me to get going again LOL

Stacy ~ LOL western druggie! You make me laugh. BCP make me extremely moody...even though the past few cycles I know when I'm about to get it, because I am so angry! Don't know why the sudden change :( We're done having kids as well and Jason actually had the Big V done, so I don't need to be on birth control.

Sarah ~ See my cycle wouldn't be so bad if it were only 3 days! LOL Mine is more like 6 with 4 of them being heavy, I hate it!

I don't know if I can get down to 135, it seems doable, but I am happy with my weight now. If only I could get rid of my flap, I'd be happy with my body! LOL

Welcome Princess! We were almost stationed at Mildenhall, would have been there in January, but my husband got a school slot instead :) My baby boy is turning 2 in June, and the boy is going to be 4 in JjUly! :)

Stacey ~ What a great store! I have a friend that blogs and every monday she has started a post about modesty and how our country is trying to dress our tweens these days. http://homeswheremyheartis.blogspot.com/ Check her out sometime, I love reading her!

Melody ~ Welcome! Maybe he can ride his bike while you walk? I do workout videos at home, and my almost 4 year old is always trying to do them with me LOL It's funny!

MJ ~ I don't think you're crazy! I would miss my boys like crazy, but a break like that wouldn't be a bad thing!

Got a double workout day ahead of me, Insanity this afternoon, and a run after the boys go to bed! Better get off my behind and get the house in order before Bible Study. Y'all have a wonderful day!

Thanks for the welcome and ideas! Letting him ride a bike while I walk is the first thought I had as well. He doesn't have a bike yet but we are planning on getting one soon. It will take a bit for him to get used to it (he doesn't even ride a trike very well.. he is a little smaller for his age and has never really grown into the one we have but I think a little bike with training wheels will be even easier). I'll let you know how it goes!

Good morning! Sorry I've been MIA. I really feel out of the loop since I've been gone for 2 weeks(?).

Welcome to all the new girls! A little bit about me: I am a part-time sahm to 2 children. My son is 7 1/2 & my daughter is 6 (16 months apart). I was a full-time sahm for a few years, but had to go back to work to help pay some of the bills. I'm working 9a-1p now as our church's administrative assistant. It's the best of both worlds since I leave for work after the kids go to school & am off work before they get out. And I can bring them with me when they're not in school. I'm also a beginner runner. I'm able to run further now than I did when I started a month ago, but I'm nowhere near as far along as I had hoped to be. Getting sick one week didn't help.

It has been so busy here with different things going on here at the church, dh's surgery, our "puppy" dog needing to be put down, and the kids' activities getting closer to the end of school. Tony is recovering well from his shoulder surgery, and he is also starting to be able to help out around the house a bit more now. We were able to even go away for the weekend this past weekend. We went to visit my parents and Tony's sister. The kids were so excited to see their cousins. Our nephews are 15 1/2 and 11, and Will thinks they are just the coolest guys EVER (just below Shaun White lol). They are great kids. My kids were so excited to be able to share some of their Silly Bandz with the 11 yr old.

School ends here June 10, so hopefully I'll be able to stay on here more. Even though I've kept up on the running, I've done horribly with my eating and water intake. I did get myself a new 20 oz water bottle which I love!

hi amy! been thinking of you! glad to hear the running has continued. how cool to have that to add to your list of accomplishments. good news on tony, too. may he continue to heal well.

i totally agree the right water bottle(s) make a huge difference. i swear it makes it easier and/or taste better. so good on you!

taking the 2 littles to the childr mus today so need to finish packing lunch (seriously, that's all i'm ever doing!).
glad that my wt is holding steady.

    GOAL: weigh 138 by JUNE 1!! that's 1.2 lbs
dh will be home Mon so i can get in some kick butt exercise before weigh in!

Katie~I am the same way as far as how long. I go 7 days and about 5 of those days are heavy days. It used to be 3-4 days and only a day or 2 heavy. It sucks but I guess I shouldn't complain much I really haven't had it that much in 9 years...lol.

Princess~That is awesome that you can ride that far! Is that with the bike trailer attached? Because man if it is you are my hero! I haven't tried to go that far with the trailer attached to mine but on my own the farthest I have gone is 9 miles and I know I wouldn't have been able to do it with the trailer. I was very tired by the end.

Amy~Way to go on the running! I am sorry to hear about your Tony needing surgery and also the dog needing to be put down. Glad that Tony is feeling better though.

Today my son has a marionette presentation for the parents of his class. He had to dress his like an Englishman (he had a report early this school year on England). Well of course he told us about having to get clothes for it the day before it was due. So we raided the dd1 barbie clothes and found a dress that could pass as one to go to a "ball". It ought to be fun to watch I have never seen a marionette show.

Tonight I am going to be going on a bike ride that has quite a few hills. I am hoping I will be able to get myself to the point where I can ride up the mountain to the Bountiful Temple. Oh and me and my friend have decided to enter into a bike event. It will be 25 miles the first time we go (in the mountains).

KatieM and Melody- What a great idea with the bike riding! I need to do more of that!!!!

KatieApple!- Iodine. I have been taking between 6-8 drops of Lugol's iodine in my water every morning. Made a huge difference in my PMS symptoms, my regularity of my period, etc. It helps regulate your thyroid, which is in charge of your hormones.

Amy! Welcome back! I am glad to hear that your running is still going good.

Nicole~ you should try out the bike riding. It is a lot of fun we frequently go as a family and the kids love it! Plus it gives you a killer workout pulling them behind you.

I have some very exciting news! I put on my size 12 today and the zipped up easier than the last time and they feel A LOT looser too! I haven't been able to fit in these pants for 3 years I am very excited for this.

    KatieM - That's great!!

Whoo hoo! I ran/walked to pick up the kids today. I ran a little further. It wasn't much, but what makes me excited is that I finally sat down and calculated out how far I'm running. I ran 870 feet (0.16 mile) at one time today. I run 2 other places on my way there. In all, I ran 1180 feet (0.22 mile) Almost a quarter of a mile! I'm now running about a third of the way to the school! Yeah, I won't make my original goal of running the whole way to the school by June 10, but I'm seeing progress, so I'm happy!

I've also had 40 oz of water today. My goal today is 60! Again, it's a start.

Melody & Princess & all the others--WELCOME!!! Just a bit about me. SAHM to 4 kids. My oldest just graduated and is headed to college in the fall. I homeschool the rest, 13, 11 & 8. Live smack dab in the middle of Missouri, USA!

KatieM---Yeah on the jeans!!!! Love getting in to a smaller size.

Amy--great job on running. Every little bit of progress will bring you closer to your goal! What are you going to do when the kids are out of school? Will you still go to the school just for fun? Make the kids go with you?

I am really tired tonight. Not sure why but I am thinking about an early bed time. Stayed really close to my calories today so that is good. Had grilled tilapia for supper--Yum! We also grilled some vegies. It has been really hot this week and I am refusing to turn on the air before June so a lot of my cooking has been outside this week. Anybody got good recipes to share?

Played wiffle ball with the kids while waiting for my dad--it was fun! Couldn't chase the balls but made the kids do it. I also have managed not to have a soda since Sunday. That is the longest I have gone for a really LONG time. sigh--really was craving one today. A friend and I are challenging each other to do this. Tomorrow will be hard as I am going to scrapbook with friends but maybe I can take some homemade lemonade or something.

Wow....been gone a while! Sorry for the absence, but things have gotten hectic around here. On thyroid medication now and that seems to be helping with energy levels. Been on it for a week now. Also hoping it will help bring down the cholesterol. Had to go in for an ultra sound to see why my liver count was elevated. It turns out I have a fatty liver. That can go really bad if left alone and not taken care of. But they said it takes several months to see a change so all my improved eating habits would only start taking affect around now. that and Pregnancy can really add to the problem. Found out I have an astigmatism in my right eye that has also been helping to contribute to my migraines. Have special contacts for that eye now and so far no headaches. So basically after all the doctors visits (still have to see a specialist for my cholesterol and go back for more blood work in a couple of months to see how my thyroid is doing) and all the things that are off I was feeling a bit overwhelmed. That was combined with recovering from my flu just to have my kids get the stomach flu one week...then my hubby and I the next. Had to vent a bit. :P I haven't been getting my workouts in very regularly but have been eating quite well still and keeping on top of all my household duties so I look at those as victories. :) Went to village inn and got the low cholesterol cheese omelette with skim milk mozzarella cheese. Wasn't fantastic but still quite good for what I was worried it would be. :P Will probably order it again next time when I have an egg craving. :)

Today started to tackle the backyard. I'm too tired now to get in my official workout but I think working out in the yard for over an hour trimming bushes, digging up weeds and such in 100 degree heat counts. :) At least that's what I'm saying

I didn't get to read all of your entries but just skim over them. I have to say though I totally am with you on the TOM woes! My new birth control is not as strong and took a while to work right. So I was getting a heavy period for about 2 weeks then off for two weeks. It was nasty. That too seems to be settling down so that's a relief. Basically, my energy is back, TOM seems to be more regular, and no more migraines. I've felt quite good the past few days and realized I hadn't been on in a while. I hope you all have a great week and it's good to be back!

KatieM - Yes that is with the trailer attached. I worked out that I am pulling 70lbs extra behind me, but I do usually stop and have a rest and a drink after about 7 miles. I tend to bike a couple of villages to go see my mum or a friend or something and so stop for an hour let the kids play and then get on my way again. It gets us out of the house!

Hello to all the people I haven't 'met' yet! I have to work this morning but will write again this afternoon.

Good Morning friends! Today is the first day of being 29 for the rest of my life ;) My bday present this morning was not seeing a plus on the scale..exactly the same as last week, which I'll take because TOM is still here...grrrr! Gonna celebrate with yummy Mexican food tonight, so I am not even going to bother logging food today HA!

Hope everyone has a wonderful day!

Katie ~ Great NSV!! I love getting into smaller jeans!

Well I'm just mad. At my inability to exercise--the desire is there but . . . Today was weigh in day & I am back up to where I was when this journey started. So frustrating considering I am eating at my calorie level, not drinking soda, or having desserts. Where is the joy in this? ARG! I am going to have to find a way to exercise that doesn't hurt.

On the other hand I did a pilates video last night and there was very little pain in my hip. So that is good & I can do that every day--it just doesn't burn the big calories but some is better than none. I have to loose some or my clothes are not going to fit. Hubby was sweet last night & said he'd be willing to sit and look at our menus to work on the eating more salads and low calorie meals. I didn't know how to tell him I already do that without being ungrateful.

Off here to eat fruit for b'fast--sigh.

Princess~Wow! That is truly amazing. I hope to get there someday. I figured just with children weight it is 52-54 lbs (depends on which two children I put in mine) then whatever the trailer is.

    Katie~Thank you!

Kim~Hang in there you can do it!

Well today was weigh in for me I lost another 2 lbs and 1/2 in. off the hips! I am so excited. I think it is time for me to start doing some strength training. See if I can get some more inches shed. The hubby passed his insurance test so now he can start working as an insurance agent, yay. So I made him strawberry delight to celebrate. It took him 3 times of taking it to pass it. So I am very excited that he has finally passed it since each time he took it we would have to pay $88.

    Happy Birthday, Katie!

Curlie, no worries, you'll figure something out :) Can you do swimming and weight training?

    KatieM, YAY on loss!

I made some good progress in the studio yesterday. We started packing it up on Wednesday. Took shelves down yesterday, packed up ponies, and cleaned up floor a bit. I think I'll try to finish cleaning floor today.
Only have to run 2 miles on TM today. So relieved! Feel sore between 3 mile runs, weight training, and Zumba.

Oh, and don't be too impressed. When I say run, I mean walk 3 mins, run for 5, LOL.

got caught up on rdg everyone's posts.

kim--(HUGS) it is so frustrating to move backwards. BUT know that your changes are still happening on the inside. the healthier food is better for your heart and digestive system--you just can't see it. and eating fish helps your brain too. my point is that you have these + things to think about. it's not just the # on the scale or the clothes.
you are at a new phase in your life this summer--ds going off to college soon (one less hs-ing kid for you), and now this arthritis dx. so it's time to figure out a new plan for REACHING new goals, adjusting expectations for this new chapter, etc.

i hope you hear this as loving advice--not lecture. i am needing to do some reflexn too as we leave this house....

    (((hugs))))

*trish--great job on getting that studio packed up. i'm sure grace will love what you do with it to make it her own special place.

katie--happy bday!! 30 was good and i think so many women really come into their own in this decade. their experience + capabilities + self knowledge come together---and WATCH OUT WORLD! enjoy!!

katiem--congrats on the wt loss! keep up your hard work and you will see more #s change.

well, yesterday was not my best eating day....lunch at mcd, dinner at uswirl yogurt....but it was a good day in terms of the rest of my life. i caught up on some journaling last night, dd1 did really well in the talent show (on Thur) and is off to learn new songs, and the little ones did many fun projects--it was ICE CREAM DAY (hence the yogurt place as a treat) and ds worked on letter I. dd's did the ice cream man craft and keep coming up with such pretty ideas---they take it in directions i never anticipate.

today is game day--indoors and out. (wish me luck!)
and dh--well he's been working non-stop. the other night he didn't even come home except to shower at 5am and then leave again. ((sigh)) he'll be with us monday tho and he was with us (albeit asleep on the couch) last night.
not complaining for me---more for him. i wish he didn't have to be in all places at once. kwim?

anyway...off to get organized for our day of games. hope you all have a great saturday!

    kim--grill recipe

boneless skinless chicken breasts pounded out thin and make a few cuts in it too or pokes with fork
put in ziploc with Ken's Steak House Lite Northern Italian dressing. Marinade however long and then grill it. simple and yummy (enuf for me anyway).

good afternoon ladies! We have 2 showings this weekend! Wohoo!! :):)

Tried to do my 8.5 mile run this morning but could only get through 5 miles before calling it quits...way too humid out there!

Had a great bday, got 7 shirts (1 small, 6 medium) and a pair of bermuda shorts (SIZE 8!!!!!!!!!!!!!!) at Old Navy for my bday yesterday. Spent $57, saved $60! So if you didn't know, they are having a huge sale, all clearance is an addition 50% off. I'm still so stoked about the size 8!! I haven't fit into that size since I was 17! I didn't even realize I grabbed that size until I was in the dressing room, I was SHOCKED that the fit with ease :):) All the other 10s I brought in were a bit too loose!

Ok..sorry, I was just so stinkin excited!! LOL

Katie, that IS exciting! I swung by Old Navy yesterday to score 2 shirts for Grace for $8 (the buy one get one free sale, yeah!) One said "Ice cream makes everything better". It's funny cuz it's true.

Hey can you do me a favor? Measure your waist at your belly button. One of my skinny friends seemed offended when I told her I'm in a size 8, and was wondering what a non-walmart brand would be in size 8 (waist inches).

    katapple Posts: 1,108 Member
My waist is 29", at the belly button I am 32", and where these sit on my hips I'm 36". I think it all depends on where the pants sit on your body and every woman is shaped differently...sorry your friend gets offended, an 8 is nothing to be sorry about! LOL

Stacey~ that is always hard to have the hubby away for that long. I haven't quite had it that bad but bad enough (6am-9/10pm). I hope it calms down soon for you guys.

Katie~ That is awesome with the home showings and the clothes. Way to go on the size 8! That is very exciting.

Trish~ That is always frustrating when people act that way when you are losing. To me it is like they are upset by it and are feeling insecure. Whether it is a Walmart brand or not it is still great that you have achieved it. Sorry that you are having the challenge of a friend being offended by it.

Katie & KatieM, thanks! I'm 33" at the belly button, and almost 39" at the hip. The 8's are snug, but still comfy, and I feel remotely attractive in them. I wear my "waist" at my belly button, which is why I was asking.

Mell, welcome aboard! As you can see, our group is fantastic and very supportive :)

    Hello everyone!

What a week! Hubby was gone for 1st half so I barely worked out at all this week b/c I couldn't get to the gym. I did pretty well for cals, got better as the week went on. Went for a good run this morning and helped a friend paint her new house. She "paid" us w/ barbecue chicken pizza and it was soo yummy. Glad I had only used up 500 calories on breakfast and lunch  I needed the rest for pizza!

Val- I am glad to hear that you are figuring things out w/ your migraines and thyroid. I have a close friend who had incapacitating migraines for almost a year and finally found out she had hashimotos thyroiditis (her body attacks her thyroid). When they fixed that she was on the road to recovery. She now does a lot of preventative maintenance too but she's living a "normal" life again. I hope everything continues in a good direction for you.

Trish- I know what you mean about a friend being offended but sometimes people don't recognize how different a body structure can be. When I weighed 145 at my smallest adult weight (at 21) I still wore a size 10/12 because I am tall and have a "sturdy" bone structure. I had a hard time understanding that some of my friends who were smaller than me in structure but overweight could still wear smaller sizes than me. I'm over it now lol. Not to mention that style, cut and store make a HUGE difference in fit. I feel great in a 12, it sure beats my 16s!! Flaunt your 8's all over the place proudly. You've worked hard to be in them!

Personal trainer cousin in Vegas told me that I should do highest incline I can on TM w/o holding on and start doing arm reps w/ 5lb weights on TM while I walk to help break through my plateau. I think she's crazy! I'm trying to get up the nerve. I hate drawing attention to myself at the gym, I feel like everyone will stare at me doing weights on the TM.

I hope everyone is having a great memorial Day weekend and making good choices at all those barbecues! Remember to get your workouts in so you can nibble an extra dessert  (Advice for myself!!!)

Goal for the rest of weekend - lots of water, I've been slacking
stay under 1200 or only eat back 1/2 of exercise cals if I get a chance to burn some.

I really really really want to be at my goal weight by my birthday June 29th. I have 11.5 lbs to go. At the very slow pace I have been losing it will be a challenge to say the least.

Mell~Welcome! This group of ladies is the best! I agree that moms think that their kids are the best. Also sorry to hear that you lost one of your babies (((hugs))). Losing a baby is always a hard thing to go through. I know what you are going through on losing a baby and also having 4 babies in 4 years. I have been pregnant 8 times in 8 years one ended in a miscarriage and 7 living. Life is crazy but good.

Trish~ You are welcome! That is awesome a size 8! I can't wait until my waist and hips are that small. My waist is 37 1/2" and hips are 43" so I don't have that much farther to go! Hope that the friend lets up soon. I have a friend that is out of shape and she was upset when she went on a bike ride with me because she thought that I was purposefully leaving her behind when I had no idea that she was that far behind me! The last time I had checked she was right there. Since then she won't come with me because she is discouraged that she is so much farther behind me in strength. I am not sure how to handle it I would love for her to come but she keeps telling me and our other friend no that she does not want to come she has other things to do. So any suggestions from anyone would be nice.

Melissa~Way to go on keeping it under on the calories during the week. Sometimes that is a hard thing to do when you haven't been able to exercise. I have thought about running up and down the stairs on the day that I am not able to get out and go for a bike ride so then that way I still get in something. I love BBQ chicken pizza it is my fav! I say go for the weight in hand while on the TM! Who cares what other people think of how you look doing it. If it will get you out of the dreaded plateau!

So I switched my yogurt that I eat from yoplait to krogers carbmaster a little over a month ago. I didn't have my carbmaster so I ate some of the kids yoplait (it was my fav flavor and everything too) it was so gross! I only ate half and gave the rest to my dd1. It had way too much sugar in it! Yay to me. My husband had told me one day isn't going to hurt you to eat it but turns out I couldn't eat it anymore. Also this weekend I tried on some of my size 10 and I was able to button & zip them up they were tight but I could do it! I was so excited. It used to be where I could only get them to the top of my thighs.
