Help!!
I'm trying to eat low(er) carb, 30g per meal maximum. I do really well if I am preparing my own meals.
Tomorrow my son wants to take me out for Indian food. I have not eaten much Indian, so I don't know what to expect in the way of carbs. Can anyone make suggestions for lower carb items?

avoid the poppadums, nan bread and rice and you should be fine :-) starters wise anything like samosas and onion bhajis have lots of flour inthe batter so these are baddies too0

I would say avoid the naan bread and rice - have a meat curry (I love butter chicken).0

The easy answer is Tandoori chicken. This dish isn't doused in a curry sauce which may have potatoes, rather it's marinated in a bunch of spices and yogurt. It's quite tasty. Then it's up to you about rice and/or bread consumption.
Sambar is harmless. At some restaurants it's free, not so much in the US though.
To get a lot of options, MFP has a ton of info about Indian food. Since I'm fairly new I can't vouch for how accurate this is. I can say some of the carb data for Biryani is wrong, that's a rice dish and is carb heavy.

stay away from breads and or rice. I am GF so I don't eat bread which helps

I make my own sagg (Palak) paneer, spinach and cottage cheese, sorry I know know the cabs in the spinch or the paneer

Just avoid anything in batters, breads, rices and the pappadums to avoid carbs.
I'm not sure if you're going down this road, but they tend to use coconut milk and such in butter chicken sauce which has high fat content (depending on what kind of coconut milk and how much and whatever) so avoid that if you don't like that, but they're natural healthy fats I'm 99% sure so if you're not too bothered dig in0 -
I've found a chick pea side dish (chana masala is my ususal) to be a good option instead of rice or naan.0

Hi there,
I will start with I am Indian and I also practice a lower carb lifestyle. So I will say if you are trying to keep it under 30 carbs, as someone else mentioned stay away from the rice and the Naan. If you do decide to eat bread, we have Roti which is made from Whole Wheat flour.
As someone mentioned above, the samosa shells are made with white floor. The Onion bhaji are traditionally made with Chick pea floor which is MUCH lower in carbs, but they are fried.
When I go to an Indian restaurant, I tend to order the chicken tandoori, lots of veggies and maybe another chicken or fish dish. You can also give paneer a try, which is a type of cheese. If you are looking for the healthy carbs, you can order the chick peas and Daal (lentils).
