Forks Over Knifes

Just watched "Forks Over Knives" on Netflix...

Normally I can see the two sides to each documentary...But this one made so much sense!!!

Has anyone watched this documentary? Opinions?

    bump for later.
  • Dollface, where do I begin? From the corruption of big agra to the foisting a diet on Americans rich in animal protein, this is only one eye-opening documentary on the landscape.

This blew me away when I first saw it, and it haunts me still.

I really liked this documentary. It further enforced why I am a vegetarian. Big agra is really awful for the environment which I have witnessed firsthand in California and even American banana plantations in Costa Rica. I feel like big agra and pharma companies are just fueling each other's wealth.

    I saw it. Interesting stuff...

For the polar opposite watch Fat Head, free on Hulu

    http://www.hulu.com/watch/196879

    I deduced two things:

Avoidance of artificial carbs fixes/mitigates many health problems.

Diet doesn't matter - intake v output matters.

Many people criticize the research cited in Forks Over Knives as being inaccurate and flawed. Science has always been my brain's weak point, so I can't really get in on the argument. However, I ate 100% vegan after watching it... and quit after about 2 months. I still support anyone who feels vegan is the way to go :)

Guilt tripping is an effective way to get people to act and react. I like meat too much to ever become a vegan. But I do have vegan friends and clients.

    Exactly.

I don't hate on vegans, and I have some vegan and raw foodists friends.

I'm just sick and tired of that certain group of vegans (cause it is not all of them) who want to hate on us meat and dairy eaters. It makes me want to cook a pig on a spit in my front yard and invite them over while I videotape their reactions.

I told my vegan friend I do not question where my beef came from because we called the cow "dinner".

She said that was worse then a slaughter house.

I have no problem with vegans either, but my morality is fine I find nothing wrong with raising cute little pigs and then eating them. Also I do not discriminate I get hungry enough my cats on the menu (actually his dog is the first to go haha) and trust me if my cat was hungry enough and he could? I'd be the first on his menu to go. :)

I love that gif too :D

It, too, makes an awful lot of sense.

I watched it last year after becoming a vegetarian.
"Meet Your Meat" is what scares most people into becoming a vegetarian/vegan though.

Which is why I choose not to watch it. I will not be "scared" into doing anything. I refuse to fall for propaganda BS put out by extremists of any particular group with the sole intention of converting others to their "noble cause."

Sounds like a cult to me honestly. :) Scare you into making the "right choice" which of course is "their choice".

Religion zealots also use to do this to control the population and get what they wanted.

For me fear is not an option for determining my life.

I agree to a certain extent.
I made the choice on my own. People shouldn't be scared into doing anything. If they want to make a choice that they believe will better themselves then it should be solely made on their own.

I agree with that. I don't care what people choose if they do it because they freely want to, not because they were coerced by some video (or something else similar).

I have no issues with people who choose to be vegan on their own. I do, however, have issues with those vegans who try to proselytize and convert others to be vegans by using scare tactics. I get really pissed off when people seriously try to tell me about how I'm just going to shrivel up and die of cancer and whatnot because I like steak, cheese, and cow's milk.

Personally, what I got out of the movie is more diet based. It didn't necessarily "Scare" me from meat. Instead it changed my view on the "perfect diet." I have always thought my diet should be protein rich and carb deficient..because that's what society teaches us.

Awhile ago I gave up most dairy because I found that It made me feel sick and was frankly disgusting. Yet society still pushes dairy on you. Most people believe a glass of milk is one of the only ways we get calcium in our diet. Frankly I believe dairy does nothing for us. Also why it's still on the food pyramid! Per the USDA we are suppose to be having 2-3 servings a day of dairy!

Idk, it's just my opinion. I have always felt that the system is corrupt and it's all about business and money making. Not the health of our people.

I recently spoke to a coworker about health and diet. I told her that I am going to be teaching my children to avoid dairy and to eat more whole foods. Her response was shocking to me..she asked if I was going to at least give my child milk as a toddler because, in her opinion a child NEEDS the calcium in milk to build up their bones and grow.

Sorry, went into rant mode ;)

(as someone who was a vegetarian for 1.5 yrs, no longer)

nothing wrong with eating meat. humans have done it since...well, since there was humans. we're very well adapted to it. i don't think eating meat (in general) makes us sick.

there IS something VERY wrong with torturing animals, however. just because an animal is going to be slaughtered for human consumption at some point in its life that doesn't mean its life has no meaning and need not be respected. and there is plenty wrong with eating meat full of antibiotics and hormones. we are NOT adapted to eat crap like that.

it's just a bad system, run by greed, coercion (sp?) and fear. ppl need to think for themselves and stop all the bandwagon nonsense...
