My 18 month old westie pup can be a pain - if I close him in another room he just barks and barks and scratches at the door so I let him in the room with me, generally he just plays with his toy on his cushion or goes out in the garden if I have the door open - but when he's in a playfull mood I have no chance, he gets under me when I am doing pushups or planking and links my face every time I come down, he tries to chew/eat my resistance bands both when I am and when I am not using them and the dirty little monster always likes to sniff/lick around my armpits when I am on my back trying to do something lol

As I say though thankfully he's usually very good, it's just now and then he's a buggar :)

Like others said, put him in another room. OR before you plan on working out, tire him out with some play. Play with him until he's on his side and panting, then give him a treat. Cats follow this schedule. Hunt, catch, kill, eat, groom, sleep. Hunt/catch/kill is playing.

Haha hilarious. As long as you never use "my cats try to cuddle with me so I can't workout" as an excuse for laziness. That would be a new one in the excuse department.

Lol, we just got the puppy in my profile picture on Wednesday. Thankfully our exercise space is in our basement and we can leave him upstairs while we work out. Maybe put the cat in a room with the door closed?

My cat does the same rubbing thing and will start trying to attack my hands if what I'm doing requires moving them around a lot. I couldn't lock him up, he'd howl like mad and that would be even more annoying! After a few minutes he will usually lay down and not bother me ,though, so no big deal.
  • my 13 week old labradoodle puppy will just sit and watch me, looking so confused. it's disturbing-- even though he's not getting in my way. :P

Every. Single. Day. and when I try to shut the door, she makes so much noise clawing the door open I just let her in lol. She really loves to lay right in the middle of my workout area when I gotta do 16 burpees in a row or something! and loves putting her little butt right in my face when I'm doing pushups!

My cats do, but I don't mind. Otherwise, I would put them up while I exercise. :)

    Ditto.

I don't see it as getting in the way... they just try to bond.

My cat sometimes wants to play when I workout. When I do ground exercises she starts playing with my foot.
When I started working out it was worse.
One I was doind tae-bo and she actually came and sat between my legs (I tried to make her go, because I was afraid to hit her during the fast moves).
She once torn my hand when she actually jumped in my hand, while I was moving it during some Pillates moves. She's a cat. She was thinking I waas playing. Cats play is more like a fight, but they don't mean no harm.

In time she kind of understood it's not play time. Now it's mostly only watching. But when I do ground exercises she at least tries to play with my moving foot. If I hiss her, she goes away and does not come back.

My cat won't get tired no matter how much we would play with her.

If it gets worse, you can try to put her in another room, like the others say. Be prepared to get some doors scratched.
Or try to work out in her sleeping hours. Should not be a problem.

I have a golden retriever and a chocolate lab. The lab knows exactly what to do while I do my Leslie Walking. My Golden is new to the house so he hasn't quite figured it out. I have to put him in "Walk Jail". Between my bed and wall with a garbage can blocking the opening. He sits there and watches with his ball hanging out of his mouth. It's very cute.

Four cats here, and they think exercise time is the perfect time to flop down in my way, rub on me, and otherwise interfere with the process. At least that's not as bad as my Quaker parrot, who flies at me in full attack mode whenever I answer the phone in his presence.

My dog is brill and just lies on her bed with her Kong or sleeping while I work out. The cat however, she sits on the arm of the chair and gives me the look of death. Then when I start doing anything that involves jumping, she jumps down and starts circling my legs! She has a death wish!

Put the cats in the carrier if you need to. My dogs learned quickly that the yoga mat is not a new dog bed and when it's on the floor, they are to be on their dog beds or in another room.

I use to have a three year old human child that climbed on my back while trying to do Yoga. ;-)

My cat does the exact same thing. Unfortunately, as a side effect of working out we don't play as much anymore and he has started to bite my legs as a (playful, not aggressive) way to get my attention and to play. He now avoids me while I work out and I try to spend at least 30 minutes actively playing with him each night before bed - this includes playing fetch and using feather on a stick toy.

When I'm doing planks, my daft Labrador lays down with me and licks the sweat from my face.

<<<yep she is affectionately called my personal trainer. she lays beneath me while doing planks/pushups...cant squish her! she climbs on belly or chest for added resistance during abs/mat work. I have lightning reflexes too from cat avoidance:)

My lab does that when I'm doing yoga. She eventually just sits by my may and watches.
  • LOL I get help with yoga too. My cat and 3 dogs think it's fascinating to clean my face or try to tip me over, depending. :) I don't mind too much though.

My dog used to walk with me every day, come rain, hail or shine. She's not allowed to walk any more than 1km at a time now, no up/down hill and she's not allowed out during cold weather. When we got her diagnosis I stopped walking for months. I still have trouble going out without her. It breaks my heart knowing that she wants to come, but can't :brokenheart: That got in the way of my plans big time!

We do have a cake that just loves to climb in under my back every time I do a crunch. Or she sits at my feet and looks at me patronisingly while I work out.

pet cakes are the best

He also tries to "help" me when doing push-ups by trying to lift me up with his head and tries to lick my sweat off. And then when he finally decided to leave me alone, he lays on my workout mat.

Planks are not easy when you are laughing.

I weigh myself first thing each morning before consuming any food or water and invariably when I step onto the scale one of my cats will run over and start rubbing my leg demanding to be fed throwing off the scale.

Yes, we have a 6 month Cairn and she figures once you are on the floor it is to play with her! I tend to put her in the yard while I do my thing.

Put him in another room and shut the door.
    Problem solved.

Yup. Reason #7,965,235 not to have a cat.

My Labrador, Grace, get so excited when I pull out the free weights. She velcroes herself to me as I'm working out with them. Both my Labs lay right next to me when I'm on the stationary bike or the elliptical as well.

Oh, I love it! I would treasure every moment of that. I'd smooch that sweet face every time I came up off the floor. A chocolate lab, right?
