weight gain from salt intake

I am sure this isn't in the right spot.I keep losing and gaining the same 1.5 pounds from salt intake. It seems once a week I eat something that has way to much sodium. Twice this month it was Chinese and there wasn't anyway out of eating out with family and friends and I asked what had the least sodium on the menu. I am drinking tons of water but having a heck of a time losing it. I am on track with the calories and exercising otherwise. Any idea's or help would be apreaciated....

Wt gain/loss is not due to fat deposition/loss. Its just water retention. Increased intake of sodium increases the water retention level. That's normal.

I know that.I asked what could be done when this happens. I know the problem. I needed a solution or help. I drink 8 to 10 glasses a day already.

ONly thing is to drink much more water, 2 big bottles of it a day, until your body lets go of it, or do a massive Cardio session and go Low Carb low sodium that day, just something that will change the balance. some people say have bananas, never done that myself.

either way the problem isn't the retention as you are still hitting your calories, the issue is when people give up or eat more because nothing is changing, so nothing changes.

As long as you are hitting your targets you'll still be burning the fat you are supposed to be, you'll just feel heavy/jiggly until the water comes off.

eat less sodium. even if you drink tons of water, if you have a lot of sodium you're going to retain more water than you would otherwise...it's just the way it is, and that's the solution. just know that when you have a "salty" day you're going to retain water...not a damned thing you can really do about it. And it's just water...so who really cares.

Thanks everyone. Must of also hit a small plateau as am down 2 pounds. I looked back through my diary and have been losing 1 pound a week and wasn't patient enough this past week. Did drink more water and watched salt intake for the past 5 days. This morning am close to another pound!

It is impossible to help someone who's diary is closed

In a Chinese restaurant you can always order steamed veggies and rice, and then go easy on the soy sauce. At the restaurant near where I live, they have steamed tofu and veggies with brown rice and they serve the white sauce on the side. The sauce is incredibly salty, but just dipping things in it is at least better than having your whole plate smothered in it.

I have had many people help me without looking at my diary.I knew what the problem was and just asked for a few suggestions.I didnt need people picking apart what I ate, which has happened before on MFP..Our Chinese place does the same thing with the sauce on the side.I usually get egg foo young or vegetable fried rice.
