Ladies in the gym

In my gym, I guess the ladies area is the aerobics room?
When I am weight training there are usually only a couple of us women around but I have my music in my ears, and am always a sweaty mess. I just try not to make eye contact with anyone when I am working out, I really am antisocial I am afraid :ohwell:
. Once in a while someone may come up and I'll say hey back if I know them and am happy engage in chitty chat when the workout is done. If it's some a creeper though, I am far less pleasant in my response. :glasses:
My gym is Fitness Forum and there is a completely closed off room called "Ladies Forum". Then there is another room for aerobics.
I am all about no eye contact in the gym.
If you use the Hip abductor machines, you could make it all awkward with eye contact just for fun:laugh:
Too funny!0 -
The gym where I work out is at work, so it is a bit different for me. Usually only a few people in there. I'm always the only woman lifting and am often the only person in the gym much less in the weight room. And the gym is just a weight room with a couple of cardio machines anyway.
But yeah, don't talk to me while I'm in the middle of my set. Don't. Don't turn up the music REALLY loud and then try to talk to me from across the room. I can't hear you and I'm actually trying to rest for the specified rest time in my plan. I'm a nerd like that.
But most of the guys that are at my gym have been there with me for months now. So they'll say, "hey you're getting really good at that" or "wow that's a lot of weight" or invite me to Tough Mudder (squee!).
My boss works out at the same time as me. He gives advice. Normally that would annoy me. He does it while I'm lifting or walks near behind me while I'm lifting. But. His input is pretty spot on, he can lift like a beast and you'd never think it, and I'm mostly in a mode to always at least appear to be listening when he talks. Dressed for work, he looks like a wimpy little guy who spends his off time in independent bookstores and coffee houses. Doing bench presses or dead lifts or pull ups, he's a beast. He has had good input. But, he earned the right to talk to me about this.
Also in the gym is the Warden sometimes. One of the first couple times he came in (new Warden to the facility, though he'd worked here before in a different capacity) and he says, "wow you're really serious, aren't you?!" That was nerve wracking. But again, He's the Chief Executive Officer at my place of work. He gets to say stuff.
Some of the others that comment and chat can get on my nerves, but mostly because I'm trying to get some work done, and my brain's energy isn't going to the conversational portion, its going to the move this weight portion of my brain. So shut up.0 -
What is the "ladies area" ?!?!
Some of the gyms I have been to have a ladies only room.
I have exactly 30-45 minutes to workout...I have it down to a science. If ANYONE disrupts my workout I get irritated. I could spend an hour ranting about the guy yesterday that sat and RESTED on the seated row machine and wouldn't get up to let me do my sets. :explode:0 -
When I was a single girl in the gym I did not prefer to be approached at the gym. I didn't go there to socialize I went there to work out.0
-
No one fcuks with the black chick.0
-
I wouldn't mind it. In fact I might welcome it. When I work out I think I look terrible (sweaty, red-faced, frizzy, etc...) so the attention might make me feel a little less self conscious!0
-
It's not against random guys, I don't like socializing in gyms overall, doesn't matter if it's friends or family. Especially during cardio. I hate it immensely so I'm even less outgoing.0
-
When I'm lifting I'd like to be left alone. I don't mind random chatting in between sets or during cardio (Are you using this? Kind of Qs). I'm at the gym to work out and have a limited amount of time when doing so. If they're really interested, then they should ask for a phone number. Gym time = My time.

At Boot camp we barely can breathe, I work out in some guy groups, but then at 65 and extremely happily married I appreciate how they motivate me. :happy:0
-
Do you hate random guys coming up to talk to you as much as I think you do?
I see this all the time and every woman looks absolutely miserable when it happens.
I actually had a random guy talk to me a few days ago... he was nice, waited until I was finished wtih my set and then complimented me.... I said thanks and smiled and walked off.....
ok, it was kinda *****y - but I had more work to do!
On the other hand, if he would have waited until I was finished working out, it may have gone a little better0 -
i don't mind the "approach" but its the lingering that bothers me. If you want to talk, ask when I am going to be finished and can talk after. But I had and 19 year old follower today and it was just so wrong.0

As I am single and looking, heck yeah I'd love to be chatted up by a guy I find attractive in any circumstance. Hopefully he wouldn't choose a moment when I'm completely covered in stinky sweat.
That said, unfortunately I work out at home! I run and cycle on city trails, but so far there doesn't appear to be an opportunity to socialize out there.0 -
Don't know why my 30lb fitness line did not show, but since today is the day I am claiming it off for good I am posting it! :happy:0
-
i have never been talked to at the gym. or even looked at.0

I wondered but that also brings up another question. If you are not working out in the "Ladies workout area" does that mean you do not mind guys talking to you?
The ladies workout area is lame.
It's the beat down cardio equipment, a few weight machines, and some dumb bells that don't go above 30 lbs. Gimme a break! I wanna workout. LOL
I mean would you want random girls walking up to you all the time while you are working out? If I'm just coming in, or leaving, or moving from one area to another and I don't look busy.. sure approach me. But if I'm like covered in sweat and out of breath and grunting because I'm squating my own weight it's probably not a good time. LOL0 -
I have never heard of their being a Ladies area at a gym, that is wierd to me. There is no better help than to have someone male or female give a good job to me when I am struggling or sweating through my clothes. I'm happily married (^_^) to a great man who does not mind his wife spending time at the gym. Do I get annoyed when someone talks way too long to me, eh I just be cordial and continue on my way. I don't do the whole workout buddy thing...not for me. I lkke getting into my zone and relying on myself to push through the task at hand.0

I have what is known as,"chronic ***** face," so I don't think anyone even thinks to. I look pissed, but I am really a happy person.0

I don't work out in the 'guy's section' because I don't mind them talking to me. I work out there because I can and will throw down some decent weights with better form than most of the men! I am more motivated in the guy's area because they DON'T bother me. They see I'm serious, focused and not in the mood for them.
I do have guy "friends" at my gym but we are all there to work- and NONE of us are ugly (or single)!0 -
AWESOME!!!!
KEEP IT UP!!!0 -
Personally I don't mind it if a guy comes up to me and introduces himself, chats a bit if I'm not really into a workout, etc...
It's when the creepy guy comes up and immediately says something like, "You're hot... Can I get your number?" Ugh.0 -
I go to the gym with my boyfriend or my best friend. I get some looks (being one of the only young females who goes there) but no one really talks to me.
It helps that I've known most of the older guys that go there since I was a baby. That's not sexy haha.0 -
If that's really you in your profile picture, I wouldn't mind if you came up to me, as long as you were shirtless!0
-
I am a happily married and attractive female. I often work out with either my husband or a male friend. I do this to discourage the creepers, however I do not mind guys talking to me as long it is constructive. If I am told how to correct my form, given a compliment about my workout, asked if I am using equipment, or a QUICK hi, I have absolutely no issue. If the person tries to pick me up or stalk me around the weight room, I want to punch them in the face. Try to pick someone up with a broken nose :P
I am normally non-violent, but I HATE narcissistic creepers.0 -
Doesn't bother me whatsoever...we have a small gym, most people get along, or at least acknowledge each other with a wave. It only bugs me if I'm really working hard and someone interrupts that. I don't care how I look, or how anyone else looks. We are mostly middle aged, overweight people, with a smattering of younger 'fit' guys and girl. In fact the only people who don't talk to me are the younger, really fit women.0

That really happens????
Being middle aged and overweight has it's advantages... :laugh:0 -

Luckily I can nail a goal kick at 65m so you better run fast to outrun what's about to come your way :grumble:0 -
I hit it hard while I'm there so I would be annoyed if I was approached during my work by anyone. Afterwards, fair game.0
-
When I'm at the gym, I personally do not like to talk to anyone if I don't have to. This is my ME time and I tend to be quite selfish while I am there.0
