I bought a pouch for my Nike+ chip from best buy for like $9, works just fine.

It really just depends on your body.
If you want to go the traditional route, figure out if you are neutral, supinator, or overpronator, then find which shoes feel the best, don't rub, don't feel any pressure in the arch, etc.
I used to run in Brooks Adrenaline being a slight overpronator.
I started wearing the FiveFingers and other barefoots about 2 years ago and I have recently started running in them. I have had significantly fewer lower leg injuries since I began wearing them (knee pain, foot pain, ankle sprains) and haven't had issues with shins splints since I started running, but it does take a good amount of work to get your body prepared to handle the shift.
  • I have flat feet and my arch is, basically, non-existent. Does anyone know of a running shoe that is good for people with flat-feet line mine? :frown:

I wear Nike Women's Flex Trainer. Compared to most Nike's, they're fairly affordable at $61. I really like them! They're very VERY light. I've never had a problem with my feet hurting in them and I like that air can get to your feet. That material around the toes is thin and allows for your foot to breathe. I've had them for over a year and they still look very nice and nothing has fallen apart. Of course, I only wear mine to work out. Occasionally, I'll wear them for daily use, but not often! The only thing I don't like as much, is their lack of stability during certain exercises like lunges. Otherwise, their step is very soft and the very flexible. They bend like the Reebox RealFlex shoes. I'd recommend the Flex Trainers

If you have big feet and live this side of the Atlantic you are stuck with mens running shoes - Nike Air are what I am currently on and I have had no trouble at all. Mind you my last ones were Brooks and they were great too (mens as well :ohwell: )

I switched to Mizuno's -- they're still supportive but much more minamalist then I've used in the past. Very light and thus I feel everything that I step on, it was definitely a change. I plan to also use Mizuno trail running shoes when I move.

I wear Mizunos and LOVE them! They work great for me. You really need to make sure that you have the right running shoes. Like most people have said, go to a running store and have them fit you. You may have to try on quite a few pairs until you find some that work great. If you don't have the right running shoes for your body, you will hurt yourself. You will hurt your ankles, knees, hips, back, and you may get shin splints and you will be miserable. Save your pennies and go for the good shoes.

I love my Avia shoes! They are like walking on a cloud. I have high arches, so I need shoes with extra cushion. I especially love that I got them on sale at Famous Footwear for only $30. Best shoe that I have ever run in, even better than the $100 fancy-pants shoes that I used to make my mom buy me when I was in high school.

I started off with New Balance, but they were too loose around the toes or something and they gave me blisters. Then ran in Nike Air Pegasus for a while and loved them, but now I run in Asics Cumulus. I also have New Balance Minimus for shorter runs. It all depends what they say at the running shoe store and what's most comfortable for you.
  • I wear NewBalance mt20 minimalist. Very light but you need to get use to them slowly if you run in normal running shoes.

Everyone's feet are different. As several have said, get to a running store and have an assessment done.

I walked on the treadmill at Footworks, and I found out I need a neutral shoe. I wear Brooks Ghost, and except for the color I love them! I use the Nike chip in a plastic attachment I bought from Amazon for about $5. It attaches to my laces and its waterproof. Now that I've lost some weight and am running 10 miles a week, I might go back and see if anything has changed.

I have tried Asics , Brooks and Mizuno. Thus far I have enjoyed my Asics the most however, it felt like the wore out quickly. I would recommend going to a runners store, it really makes a difference having your gait studied and pair of running shoes specifically recommended.

So...I used to wear shoes that had a lot of cushion on them because I've had my ACL reconstructed twice and was having knee pain...after training for my first 1/2 marathon, I was having all kinds of knee pain, and pain in my hip (hip flexor) which forced me to switch to riding a bike for about a month to ease the pain...I seriously thought I had a hip fracture ... all this to say...I knew my gait wasn't strong because I was not fully extending on my left side because of fear of re-injuring my knee. I went to a running store and talked with someone there who recommend I change my foot strike while running. I asked how to do that, and there was classes, going to a specialist or simply changing shoes. Turns out...those super cushioned shoes I was wearing pretty much encourage me to strike heel first rather than toe first. After trying to make a conscience effort to strike toe first, I gave up and changed shoes...yep to those weird toe shoes (Vibrams). It took some getting used to, wearing them, and I couldn't run in them right away. I have a high instep so shoes that have straps or buckles that sit on the top of my foot are uncomfortable, and these new shoes had just that. They have elastic "laces" that really don't lace...or adjust much..so the first week I tried to get used to them...but they were pressing on a nerve and causing my feet to go numb. I took it upon myself and cut them...then took a piece of it to "tie" the shoes to keep them on. They are BY FAR the most comfortable shoes I've ever worn. I also don't tape my knee anymore to run and I have ZERO knee or hip pain when running now.

So, there you have my opinion...hope it helps

    Good luck and run hard~!

I want to stick with the Nike because of the chip I have for their shoe. I tried the FRee - HATE them. I also bought the Zoom Structure. My first pair was almost perfect. But they are worn out, so I tried a second pair of the same and they are HORRIBLE for me.

I am now wearing the AirMax (which gets awesome reviews) and I'm not 100% sold. Give them about a 7 on a 1 to 10.

I know I should go to a running store. Think I will figure out where one is. THANKS!!!!!! :)

Just try them on and see how they feel, you dont have to get Nike+ shoes to use the sensor. You can buy shoe lace attachments made for the Nike+ sensor and many articles are online on how to make your own.

Now I feel like a big dummy! Are you serious????

Yep. Let me get you some links.

I am friends with a highly esteemed trainer...he's worked with several Ohio State football players and other central Ohio athletes. He only recommends Brooks running shoes. That's what I wear and I love them. Just make sure you get plenty of wiggle room in the toes...otherwise even this shoe will be hard on your feet. Keep running! :D

I too use the Nike + Sensor , I have the Air Max but I only use them on shorter runs (3-5 miles)
My personal expierence , It is all about the lunar glide! Great for long runs , Great cushion I run with them anywhere from 5-15 miles. I love that you can customize them on the Nike website as well.

P.S Tried the free Runs and it felt like running barefoot. Not for me

The Sensor pouch like 3 bucks on ebay , just incase you go outside of Nike.

Hope this helps! Good Luck !

Reebok Zigs. I would recommend going to a store that specializes in running shoes to get the shoe that fits you the best.

I have Nike Free Runs and love them. I've had lots of running shoes in my lifetime, and these, hands down, are the best shoe I have ran in. Quite comparable to a track shoe, to me anyway.
