I've had PCOS since I was 12. About 2.5-3 years ago I finally had to give in to it and have my tubes tied and a uterine ablation done. I was literally having a nonstop visit from Aunt Flo and I couldn't handle it anymore. Years of that will do that to you. Plus they said my chances of actually having a baby, a healthy baby, and carrying it to full term were about 1 in 5 million. They also said I would carry this onto my child as it has been passed down through the family line and it keeps getting worse with each generation. So I said enough and ended it. Is it hard knowing I will never have a child of my own, a little, but not having to go through every day of always making sure I have enough kotexs with me to make it through the day, a change of clothes always near by in case of an accident, the pain, the cramps, it was worth. I couldn't have kept it up until I went through menopause.

I have PCOS, too, and am on day 2 of South Beach diet, trying to work on the low-glycemic index plan to lose a few pounds, and doing a Jillian Michaels video 5 days a week. Feel free to friend me! I am 31 :)

Hello =) I am curious how long you have been diagnosed with PCOS? I am single, no kids but I want to have kids. I was diagnosed in 1999. I am not focused on fertility issues now, but the side effects of PCOS that change a woman's body - that is frustrating. Good Luck on getting pregnant =)

I was diagnosed 2 years ago just after my sons birth. I thank my lucky stars we concieved him so easily because we have been trying for 16 months now. Im 5 kgs (11 pound) off my pre-pregnancy weight so hoping this will help. Because I didnt know before having Ethan its now expained alot of the side effects I had before having him. Im taking Clomid ATM to make me cycle with the hope we can fall pregnant but we may end up having to go IVF

Must have been a hard discission but your quality of life is important to. I understand the not wanting to pass it down the family line because Nana has PCOS mum hasnt been checked and my Aunty (Mums Sister) has it so the last thing I want is to have a girl and her go through it

I was on Metformin all it did was make me sick when I took it, then after a month of being sick I was ok but I never noticed any changes, then when I went off of it I was super sick again. I have also been on all sorts of birth control, from the shot, to the pills, to the 3 month pills, etc, etc. Nothing worked. I know every body is different. I know my mom had to go through the same thing I did with the ablation. And it took her FOREVER to have me. So yeah PCOS is a you know what. I did find though that seasonal/seasonique/whatever it is called now, tried to keep my periods to a dull roar while the rest did nadda.

One doctor told me that for women with PCOS we have to work twice as hard as what a normal person would have to do to lose the weight. Not sure how much truth there is to that, but I believe it.

I'm obviously not a woman, so forgive my intrusion, but I do have a PCOS story to share with you. My wife has PCOS or I should say HAD PCOS for many years. In late August 2009 her bleeding became so bad that there was nothing she could do to stop it. We went to the doctor who explained our options after numerous exams and tests. Because she had PCOS for so many years and because her body did not regularly have a period she developed endometrial cancer. We went to see an OBGYN Oncologist who gave us two options. A complete hysterectomy or, we could choose treatment. My wife really wants to have kids one day and so after a lot of prayer we chose treatment. After the treatment ended my wife underwent a D&C and was found to be cancer free.

We went to see a fertility specialists who put my wife on a medication to ensure she has a period every month, however, it is NOT birth control as she is able to get pregnant.

If you are not pleased with what doctors tell you keep searching for answers. We went to one of the top rated OBGYN Oncologists in the country and now my wife is not only PCOS symptom free, but cancer free as well. There is always hope.

Well then lucky ducks I would have lost double my weight if it weren't for PCOS. Lol. It is hard though. I mean I see super skinny girls drinking their huge starbucks and all I can do is stare and sniff the air cause I know it's gonna set me back if I do it cause this PCOS just latches on to anything fatty it seems.

:( Jesus Christ ! And yes it makes me sick too! I couldn't go into work today because of the intestinal problems....If its not helping after 2 months I'll have to let it go....this just makes me so upset & emotional

That was my case. I went through about five different doctors. Finally found the one that treated my mom and birthed me and said listen, you know the family history here, let's be honest and get down to what we need to know and do. When he told me all the facts and due to family history, my health history, my blood work etc, there was just really no hope. He said the best I could do was freeze my eggs..........after seeing the price tag for that I said no thanks. But I agree, never settle for the answer that you don't want if it's not what you truly want. You'll know in your heart if it's the right answer or not. I had a D&C done, be VERY careful with those. My doctor who did my ablation about flipped when he heard a doctor had done the D&C on me. It never should have been done and instead of helping it actually hurt me and my chances of actually being able to have a child.

That's exactly what it does....I didn't even notice that my weight gain was abnormal until I got a PCP who explained it all

Hope all goes well with you and your wife. I hadnt heard of endometrial cancer until a few weeks ago my local PCOS support group has a couple of ladies that have had to have hysterectomys because of it, they thankfully had both had children.
