OK so it's Thursday truth - I'm feeling depressed. I just got engaged on July 21st. This should be a happy time, but it's not. His mother went out and bought me this beautiful wedding dress and it doesn't fit. Why? Because she says I'm fat and need to lose 20 lbs to fit into the dress. Now every time I upon the closet door, I'm reminded that I'm FAT. I am an emotional eater. I'm afraid to step on the scale. I've head the dress waaaaay back in the closet and going to take over my weight. Not because she said I'm fat, but because I need to be healthy. I'm tired of people telling me that I'm fat. I already know that. I need people to tell me that they will support and motivate me on my journey to a healthy me.
Congratulations on your engagement! It was nice of your future MIL to buy you the dress but I would suggest setting some boundaries with her soon. I am an emotional eater too and I know that her words and seeing the dress would send me into a spiral. Is it possible to store the dress elsewhere?
I wish you the best in your weight loss journey. Do it for you...for your health and happiness.0 -
Thurday Truth....I have not exercised yet this week and it is Thursday already! Dietwise I have done well. Really need to get moving. Also - I've been a slacker at work this week. Next week I lose my right hand person and I am in total denial this week!0

Thursday Truth: I am rarely able to eat fruits and veggies because of the price. But I am also more determined then ever to exercise with more consistency. I have even went to one of my friends and ask her to come to the local gym with me for at least a month. Hoping if she gets in the habit and enjoys it then I can have a workout partner that will keep me even more accountable.0

Well, started off good yesterday all the way to dinner time and them BLAM!!!! :explode: I blew it to smithereens UGH. My daughter tested last night and got her red belt in Karate  BUT we have a tradition now that after testing we go to BW3 and have wings, it's our favorite place to go together and I went off the wagon big time.
I am capable of doing this, I lost 103 pounds by simply journaling and adhering to a diet plan previously. I just need to right motivation and support and to get moving. Today is another day, right?

Welcome to the group! I have found much motivation and great advice on this thread. I wish you success!I'm new to the group, but I've lurked around the old thread more than a few times. Anyway I'm younger than most it seems so far (only twenty-two), and trying to find a support system since the one I have offline seems to fall apart on a regular basis.
As for my goals this week, I want to be more active while meeting my minimum calorie intake. This is a big one for me since I was a lot more active than normal last week but wasn't meeting my minimums which in turn lead to a gain. It wasn't huge and I am slowly coming down and recovering back into losing. Lesson learned is all I can say about that. (I actually ate out of macros to make myself have something to burn off probably not a good way to look at it but if I want to burn off anything it's the ice cream sundae.)
My other goal is to finish the day with under 2500mg of Sodium consumed for the majority of the week. I did it yesterday so here's to being on a good start. I'm hoping I'll be able to continue.
Last goal is to wake up before 10am. Downside of summer and unemployed status is I see very little point in being awake prior to that which eats hours of daylight that I could be using for other things. I have two alarms set to try and get me up but so far I'm failing at it, but one day I'll get up between 7:15 and 7:45 and do a little dance.0 -
Thursday truth - work has been so busy lately that I've been slacking in the exercise department.0
-
Datenshi - so sorry for your loss - my condolences :flowerforyou: :flowerforyou:
Bella - I hope your moms surgery goes well
Vicki - you have such a great sense of humor !
Laurie - positive thoughts your way for you and your fellow to keep up the relationship. Sounds good for both of you.!
Nichols - oh boy - a new toy - I'm in major envy land right now!
Liz - hope you get your rain - and everyone else who needs it!
Charlotte - have fun on vacation and hope your grandaughter has fun visiting with her cousin (I think I got that relationship right)
Raven - sounds like your'e doing all right. However, I don't count exercise calories from activities that are normal for me like grocery shopping, cooking, light cleaning. Perhaps if you stopped counting some stuff as exercise calories, you'd have less calories total to eat each day. Just an idea .....:flowerforyou:
Alleykat - we'll give you the support and motivation you'll need! Don't worry about that wedding dress for the time being - although your future mother-in-law sounds like a pill - I might worry about that! Glad you are taking charge of your OWN life.
teachers - to Akelts and all the working and non-working teachers in this thread - I hope those unemployed find jobs and to those with jobs I hope you have a great year!
Newbies - welcome to a great group!
Thurs Truth - that sore muscles JUST WOULDN"T HAPPEN when I exercise. The first time I swam, I swam for 40 minutes and had a bad backache (and still do). Since I swam Tuesday for only 20 minutes, I have sore shoulders. Tells me how really out out of shape I am. But, I will not stop - I am going swimming today.0 -
Thursday truth: I usually get up in the middle of the night and snack. Last night I actually stopped myself before any food hit my lips!0

Thursday truth...I gained 4 lbs while on vacation last week. Not surprising considering I went to 3 birthday parties and winery hopped for days. But, i couldn't bring myself to record it. I'm just working hard to lose it QUICK :happy:0
-
Thursday truth: I have really been letting the reigns loose to easily on the food aspect of my weight loss. It seems like I lose a few pounds and get all excited about it then fall into the trap of; "hey I can have a little bit of that" and one small handful turns into a large plate full. Before I know it I'm right back over the milestone that I hit before and have to start all over again. Thankfully I'm only fighting the marker between 182 and 175 instead of 185 and 190 but I don't want to let it get that high again. Gets frustrating after working so hard to get down to 175 or my lowest 174 then find myself eating stupidly and weighing that week only to find myself regressing once again. I know what I'm doing wrong but can't get myself to correct it. Makes me feel stupid each time I do it.0

Many thanks to all who have welcomed me so generously to your group...special thanks to
@MyMOwMOw for the encouraging message
@jtconst for helping me realize I'm not in this boat alone with more than 200 pounds to lose
@lizmil79 for your kind welcome
Thursday Truth - I want to be thin and I want to be healthy - but, I'm not sure if I have what it takes to put in the work to get there.
A friend of mine is also on a weight loss journey (but she is doing Spark People?). She sent me this quote two days ago which I think I need to print in large letters this weekend and post on my bathroom mirror and on my refrigerator. (I don't know who wrote it, so kudos to the author, whomever you are):
Respect your body: Say good things about it. Eat right. Exercise for health. Rest and relieve stress. Your body deserves daily care.0 -
Also.... I pronounced Geoffrey Chaucer's name with a hard g (and a long e and long o....) for years. Trying to read Chaucer when I couldn't even pronounce his name was ambitious to say the least... It seems so obvious now...
hmm, true. we don't want to inspire more sibling rivalry than necessary. it seems weird to me how confused american are about the whole soft G business. but i know that 90% of people don't seem to realize. chaucer is pretty tough even if you can pronounce his name, though lol
hmm.. as an English teacher and self-proclaimed linguistics nerd I find this conversation intriguing. I would absolutely pronounce Gillian w/ the soft g b/c the rule is if a c or g is followed by e, i, or y, then it's soft. But even before I studied English, I knew this and would venture to guess that most people I know would pronounce it correctly as well. I mean, I've never noticed people making those types of mistakes (and trust me, I WOULD notice if it were common).
I was tempted to suggest that maybe it's a regional thing, but then Helen went and screwed up my theory ( ) since she's also from Chicago.
The new theory rolling around in my head is that maybe knowledge of that pronunciation comes with the number of generations of English speakers in the family...
@tungsten--I NEVER run out of peanut butter!!
i've wondered this too. because i live in new mexico many many people are native spanish speakers with ESL. and one thing, as you may know, specific to spanish is the lack of a J sound. which is instead an H sound. so i was wondering if that might be part of the problem. i just don't know. i know that it happens ALL the time though. at least once a week.0 -
Good morning everyone. So lets see a truth for Thursday. I tend to make excuses alot to justify alot of negative behavior concerning food and exercise. Part of my journey is having to stop and question myself regularly to make sure I am actually doing the best I am capable of.0

Thursday Truth - One of the epiphanies I had while in the hospital in March was that I was taking better care of my cats than myself.
I would spend HOURS researching the best forms of diet (kibble, canned, and raw). Then I would spend HOURS researching the very best foods I could afford. I spent time shopping for raw meat for them in exotic stores so they could have healthy meals. I bought a dehydrator to make THEM jerky out of things like duck and rabbit so they didn't have to eat processed commercial garbage..... they were (and are) healthy, vibrant, and according to the vet in the best health of any cats she's ever seen.
In the mean time I ate myself to a stroke with processed and fast foods........
Now we ALL eat healthy.0 -
Hi Everyone-
Took me a couple of days to get to the new thread.
Thursday Truth- I have been eating a lot of junk food again but at least keeping up on my walk plan.
I will try to read up on all the posts I have missed out on just probably won't reply being it 10 pages already.0 -
Hello all
Thursday - Truth
I am dissapointed no one can tell I've lost almost 40lbs. I suspect it's actually more. It's ok. I have a long long way to go and I'm prepared for this journey.

Hello all
Thursday - Truth
I am disappointed no one can tell I've lost almost 40lbs. I suspect it's actually more. It's ok. I have a long long way to go and I'm prepared for this journey.
have a wonderful day MFPals
that does suck. it took forever for someone to say they noticed that i had lost weight. but i think people do notice, they just don't say. i was talking to someone i know and just randomly said i was getting rid of something, i don't remember exactly what, because i had lost a lot of weight and she said, 'yeah, i've noticed.' but she'd never said anything. so i bet people notice. they just don't say.0 -
Hi all! I'm need to lose at least 100 pounds. I finally decided that enough is enough and started counting calories in May. I do fine during the week but am horrible on the weekends. I have a very tough time fitting exercise into my day (get up by 4:30 in the morning to commute to work and don't get home until 6:30-7:00). And after 8 month of no soda, I fell off the wagon last night...0
-
@toots--yeah, I was originally thinking the same thing b/c I'm half Mexican and I could totally imagine my grandparents (who were native Spanish speakers/ESL) making that mistake.
@doug--that vicious cycle you described is me to a T! Ever since I hit Onederland, I've been struggling to stay focused and committed to losing the rest. I think another "problem" is all of the compliments I get from other people--hearing how "great" I look is nice, but I honestly think if someone would just call me "fat" it would be more helpful to my motivation. :ohwell:
@terra & naceto--we all have those moments where we stray from the healthy eating (even very fit people do it), but getting right back to the healthy lifestyle will work--you have the right attitude! :flowerforyou:
@sani--great job stopping that negative habit!
@robin--embrace your sore muscles--they are a sign that you are working hard! :drinker:
@alleykat--ummm, your MIL said what?!?! You are a much nicer person than I. I would have told her to shove the dress somewhere not so nice.
@raven--I tried to look at your food diary to give more specific advice, but it's private. So my general advice is that as long as your net intake is above around 1200/day, don't worry too much about always meeting that calorie goal. Also, someone asked this before, but do you log all of your daily activity (like shopping) as exercise? If so, check your "goals" to make sure you have your activity level set at "sedentary."
@joe--you can still have that tradition, but next time go to the BW3 website and figure out how many calories you will be eating there. Then make sure to enter it into you food diary ahead of time. Plan the rest of your food around that special meal and if you need to, go burn some extra calories to allow for the treat.
@gigi--are there any farmer's markets in your area? I've been shopping at those all summer and they tend to be a bit cheaper. Also, we have a few chain fruit markets that have much lower prices than regular grocery stores--it means an extra trip, but it can really be worth it. Finally, do you like any frozen fruits/veggies? I tend to stock up on Green Giant Simply Steam boxes when they are on sale. That way, I have veggies in the freezer for those times when I can't afford the fresh produce.
Going off of this, I know several people (toots and some others) were discussing how expensive healthy food can be compared to the processed junk food. I always felt the same way, but have found that I eat so much less (now that I measure out my foods) that I'm really not spending more.
@akelts--wow, if we had 14 vacancies they would be filled in 10 minutes! Teaching jobs are so scarce in our area--I read that we had around 3000 applicants looking to fill just a couple hundred openings in our county in IL. Hope you get those vacancies filled.
@mymowmow--I had a "pet" epiphany today as you can see from my truth.
Thursday Truth:
I've been using my dog as an excuse to not go to the gym. I used to get dressed for the gym, take Gunner for a walk, and then go to the gym. Lately, I've been running with him outside and using the excuse that he enjoys it. The truth is, he's just as happy with a walk, so toady I will walk him and then go to the gym.0 -

Oh you don't have to keep that dress in that closet do you? I think a talk with your future MIL is in order, some people just need to be told that isn't helpful but hurts you and ask her to get on board supporting you. Sometimes we think people should know what we are thinking and feeling but no one is a mind reader. Yes she should know it is not polite to say things like that, but some weren't taught to think about they are saying. Hope she mellows out.

I have finally figured out that 1 splurge doesn't have to lead to a binge and that I can start over the very next meal and praise God that is getting me through some meals at my son's home that weren't the healthiest. You are right today is another day!

Thursday truth: I usually get up in the middle of the night and snack. Last night I actually stopped myself before any food hit my lips!
Awesome NSV!!! I have had problems in the past with amnesia eating in the middle of the night (I have to take Ambien to be able to sleep). One morning I woke up and found I had eaten butterscotch pudding in bed and gotten it all over the bedding.
Since starting this plan I haven't had the problem, not sure why but I love logging my food and using this forum and I think I am more emotionally and physically satisfied.

Truthful Thursday: I succumbed to my ED again this week. I am so ashamed. I am going to try to get back on track today and remember that addictions are not solved over night.0

Hi Everyone
Thursday Truth: I am my own worst enemy.

Thursday truth: I have really been letting the reigns loose to easily on the food aspect of my weight loss. You are coming back each time and that is what is making you a winner. If you were like me in the past I would have just given up. You will make it!!! Those of you in this group how continue the work without giving up are inspirations to us who are starting out.
Christine0 -
@alleykat: You know what I think? Screw future MIL, you are beautiful to your fiancee and that is what matters. Do you need to be healthy? Yes, but skinny does not equal healthy, or all the bulimic and anorexic girls would be cover models on health magazines. You are doing what you need to do the right way and it doesn't matter what anyone else thinks! I also agree with everyone else that perhaps an honest discussion may help. If it doesn't (meaning she either doesn't get it or doesn't change) then learn to tune her out like a car driving by with really loud bass stereos
@Joe: It's totally a new day and you can start fresh! Next time your daughter achieves a new belt, maybe you could start a new tradition? Like going to a frozen yogurt shop instead? That way you can teach healthy eating habits while celebrating her victories!
@dobarber: I know what you mean. I hate the yo-yo affect especially when we know we only have ourselves to blame. I know for me the thing that has been the hardest is having the right frame of mind. "Yay I've lost pounds I can cheat!" Is something I just need to replace with "Yay I've lost X pounds I need to work harder so I can lose more!". It is a constant struggle.
@genesis: Its ok, WE can see it on your ticker, and I am sure there are little things that you've noticed are easier to do since losing the weight right? Self gratification is the key here. Who cares if anyone else notices, the important thing is do YOU notice?
Aaaand my Thursday Truth: Another reason I want to lose weight is because I have noticed in my pictures my head looks really tiny compared to my body. Like one of those fun-house pics where everything is disproportionate. Is that weird? Maybe, but I don't care, I am weird.0 -
Truth---After working at the rock climbing camp I have no desire to exercise but I know I should. Today, if all goes according to plan I should be helping my trainer move the rest of his things out of the gym. That will be a good workout.
The gym is totally frustrating me right now, they did not have the record of my last renewal in June- so they think I owe money. I need to correct that mistake and get this straighten out. Luckily, I have good records and the copies of the receipts to back it up. I learned my lesson the last time I dealt with this issue.
Hope everyone has a great day.0 -
New here!
I am in my second week at MFP, and so far so good. I'm not doing any particular "diet." I'm just journaling my food like I used to do on Weight Watchers several years ago. I have 125lbs to lose to get to my goal weight. I'm still trying to figure out an exercise regimen. I want to build myself up to C25K.
Truth: A week ago, I tried to weigh myself on a non-digital scale, and I exceeded the maximum weight of the scale. The scale only goes to 270lbs. I was about 5lbs above. I am in denial about my weight, and I just can't believe that I am so near 300lbs. I thought the scale was defective until I had my children weigh themselves on it. I'm heavier now (by 65lbs!) than I was at full-term in my pregnancies!0
