which do you prefer..... exercising alone or with a partner?

I find it's occasionally fun to work out with someone else, but in general I prefer to work out alone - I like to feel free to focus on whatever I want to do, at my own pace, without having to be simultaneously thinking about someone else.0

I work out at a private gym. Which means I have the benefit of being accountable to a personal trainer...but, I don't have to exercise around a bunch of people I don't know or that are only there to feed their egos.0

Working out alone for me. The day I have to depend on someone else being in the room with me to help give me motivation is the day I just up and forget it. I have the willpower and motivation and if I didn't I would go find it for myself and just make myself do it regardless.
My cousin has bribed me with so many things, gifts, luxuries, gym memberships if I come work out with her and I'v come to the point now of just ignoring her texts and phone calls. If she's that lazy and can't do it now on her own and thinks that all it takes is for me to be there with her to get herself on a treadmill, she is sadly mistaken. There comes a time where you just got to pull up your big girl panties and get it done. Don't rely on others. I have friends who have workout partners and they still slack and screw off. And I have some who have partners and it works for them too but they're dedicated athletes.
I am NOT saying that is the case with anyone here, but a lot of times you see more people screwing off in groups than you do when you're alone focusing on just you. I can tell you now, the first time my workout partner was even a nanosecond late for our workout I would can him or her and give them their walking papers. But if you're someone who already workouts a lot alone but feels like you need to get yourself a workout partner maybe for the companionship or something make sure you get someone as dedicated as yourself. Too many times have people made excuses why they cant work out and you're stuck there pissed off and then what?0 -
I work out alone. This way if I'm not feeling it, I don't ruin someone else's workout schedule.0

Alone. Every time I worked with a partner they either didn't stick with it or weren't able to work out at the same times I could.
I make separate plans to do active stuff with my friends, but keep my daily exercise for me.0 -
Alone. It's not a social event for me. It's my time and I want to be able to focus on what I'm doing.0

Alone. I like doing my own thing, in my own time.
Agreed. The gym time is my "me" time.
Having said that my mom is a bodybuilder and anytime I can workout with her and get some free training I totally do!
(I moved away though :sad: That's why I'm fat again. Haha)0 -
alone...I am very social by nature but I feel that when I work out it is ME time...0

My youngest son also wants to join the gym but I am really reluctant as he is mega competitive with me and I know he would spend his whole time trying to best me - but I am pretty competitive too and I just know it would end up being a game rather than my happy zen time - bet I come across as a selfish ***** now hahaha0

well at 1st i wanted a workout buddy but then i realized it wont work either the other person is ready to go before i am or the days i want to go they dont want to so i prefer to use that time to think and focus but every1 is different0

usually i prefer a partner. For my own accountability and also just for company. But today I did have an awesome workout all by my lonesome and I feel awesome!0

Depends. I cannot work out with other females. At least not the ones around here, even my close friends do the little pink weights :grumble:
But....I have recently started working out with my husband and I find it rather helpful, he can push me to work harder when he knows I have more in me to give.

I do my workout dvds at home and alone. I really don't want any company there. I love that I do my exercises when I want. I love to concentrate on myself, it's like a meditation as well. I would say no to anyone.0

It depends on what I'm doing. In general, alone- I'm with people much of the time and it can be really draining. I do enjoy knowing the people at my gym though, so while I don't like to work out side by side with friends (unless I'm in a class) I do like being a regular and feeling that sense of community. If it involves dance, other people give me energy, whether they are watching (I like to perform) or next to me (I'm very competitive) Outdoor pursuits- completely alone, which isn't always a bright idea safety-wise.0

I find a partner distraction. I like to talk a lot so I've always ended up chatting rather than working out. So it's better for me to go alone. I do my workout then done! :-)0

I got mixed feelings.... but they waiver on the side of having a partner.
I dont like working out with lazy friends that arent serious about there wieghtloss goals. But it is my choice to be lazy with them or not. Bottom line is your gym partner can only drag you down if you let them.
I have worked out with strangers whom I have met at the gym, who have become gym buddies and the work outs are great. You compete alittle and push each other, the support is awesome. Its nice if you like that feeling of working on a team. Now I feel like I have a litle gym family.0 -
With someone! I walk with my neighbor and my cousin who lives down the street - the miles go by faster because you have someone to talk to! Music only goes so far for me. Now my mom is on MFP and we keep each other accountable. We just decided to go to a gym and turns out my brother's gf and 3 of my cousins all go to the same one - so we're going to keep each other going!0

....my comment wasn't that ALL people who go to gyms are just feeding their ego. But, in the small town I live in, when you're 370 pounds and just want to be treated like a human instead of a disgusting waste of good gym space....it was more than I could stand.0 -
Most definitely alone at the gym...need to do my thing and move on. But, prefer, need really a running partner for the trails. Isolated trails in the woods with hungry bears scare me!

I like to do my DVDs alone. But I love to walk at the park with my boyfriend. We walk longer together versus me walking alone. Plus we talk and have races so thats a plus.0
