Intelligent life somewhere out there at some point in the history/future of the universe. Yes, probably.

Chances that a life form will co occur during the time span that humans exist in the universe AND be intelligent in a way that we humans understand/define intelligence AND are close enough to be able to visit AND want to actually visit. Not likely.

The odds are just too good that there is. Especially since tiny microbes do count as "life".


BUT as far as we can tell if there is anything out there it's so far away as to make visits or contact a near impossibility. Space is unbelievably vast. Measured in light years by the millions upon millions. So while there may be an abundance of intelligent life in our own galaxy we'd never know it.

Imagine one person living in Russia and one person living in the U.S. No other people on the planet and no means of transportation. May as well be alone because they won't ever see one another.

Yes they're out there. It's taken us nearly a million years to get where we are scientifically, and we can't even leave our own solar system. Assuming other civilizations are on the same curve as us we are unlikely to ever meet them.

Absolutely. We may never see them in our lifetime, but to think that we're the only time life has happened in an endless universe is foolish. There's just gotta be something else out there somewhere.
