It's like watching a train wreck. In slow motion. With GIFs and memes. AND IT'S AMAZING. I don't think they should be deleted.. But oh well.

NO, I don't think they should be deleted. We are all adults here and the people that don't act like it soon know it isn't appreciated. However, there are site rules and they should be obeyed. But apparently, some people are easily offended or find things controversial that don't seem so to me.

I've been accused of trolling when my opinion is different from someone else's. It's BS that someone can report/delete my post just because they disagree. That kind of censorship and intolerance is unacceptable. It is generally people who are following a very different diet than mine. They have the right to disagree but not to throw out the word "troll" at everyone who thinks differently.

Sometimes I want to put stuff on controversial topics, but my opinion would not go down well, so maybe sometimes it is best to keep it to myself...

    but I hate controversy

Absolutely - they should be deleted. Why? Because this isn't our site and we don't make the rules.

Freedom of speech is a wonderful thing, unless they disregard rules and regulations pertaining to certain areas, such as this message board.

I have no problem with controversial threads or posts. I do have an issue with belittling someone with name-calling...or as people like to call "judging". That's when the lines are crossed and posts should be removed.

    Hi Folks,

Just a word to clarify that we receive plenty of moderator reports that we simply dismiss.

The question is never whether a user was offended by another's opinion, the question is always whether a topic violates one of our site's guidlines ( http://www.myfitnesspal.com/welcome/guidelines )

We do our best to edit threads of the problem content to that the can continue. But some threads entire purpose is contrary to a guideline (for example, posting a thread with the intent of making fun of an earlier thread, or commenting on the behavior of other users on the site. In cases like these the whole thread has to go.

We'll continue to be as transparent as we can about our moderation, preferring to lock a thread with an explanation, rather than simply have it vanish. If you have questions about the moderation of a particular thread, you are always welcome to contact me directly at http://www.myfitnesspal.com/steven

    Regards,
    Steven

Delete all of the controversial posts ONLY if you want to make this the most boring web site on the planet. But yeah.... Clearly there's limits. Eg racist stuff. But a little bit of adult banter like funny porn star names should definitely stay and I've noticed the mods are pretty lenient provided things don't get too out of hand.

Great site MFP. Now have I kissed your butt enough to get my strike back?*

*just joshin'... I don't really have a strike.

OP you need to come down ff of your high horse! Who are you to decide what is controversial?!?!?!?!?!
Lol. completely kidding if you were ready to get all bristly :)
I love love love the controversial posts, especially the comment wars. My life is luckily drama free, which is sometimes surprisingly boring. So I go on forum sites and read there silly drama about whether their calorie facts are right or wrong :)
