Part of the subway diet was that Jared walked to subway every day...is that possible for you? It's not the worst diet plan, but it has left a lot to be desired.0

I think it would be better (and far cheaper) to learn how to prepare your own meals. While Subway is one of the better choices if you need some food on the go, the price adds up fast. If you like sandiwches, and the idea behind the Subway diet, buy meat from the deli and keep veggies chopped and prepped in the fridge. Their meats are also processed and full of preservatives, so you're probably better off finding an alternative.
Just my two cents. Whatever you choose, I hope it works out for you.0 -

I bike there,i would say, 3 or 4 times out of the week. Perhaps i'll have to do some more.0 -
I put on about 10 pounds eating not much other than subway. It all comes down to calories. Eat less than you expend. This is easier if you cook yourself.0

I think it would be a better option to make the sandwiches at home yourself. It will be cheaper and it will be healthier.
Subway is one of the better choices out there for fast food however depending on what you put on your sub it is LOADED with sodium (the meats, sauces, and cheese are really high in sodium).
You could make the same things at home for much cheaper. Grab a bunch of sub buns, veggies and whatever cheeses and meats you put on your sandwich. If you eat lunch meats get the lower sodium ones and the lower fat cheeses. Same with the sauces. To make it easy cut up all the veggies and leave in containers in the fridge. Than it's just a grab and quickly make when you eat.
Subway tends to put on much more sauce than a serving really is and one thing I hate is that it's extremely difficult to measure the amount of sauce they do put on your sub. It's all guess work really when counting the nutrition.
If it helps you go for it. I never did it because it's expensive and I like variety.0 -
I agree with others- you could do worse than Subway but it is loaded with sodium and other questionable ingredients (check out what is in their bread). It is no healthier than sucking down a Lean Cuisine or any other packaged frozen heat and eat meal a couple times a day. You will lose weight in a calorie deficit whether you are eating perfectly healthy or if you are eating all crap foods. So yes, you will lose weight by eating at Subway provided you are in a calorie deficit. However, it is healthier and cheaper just to make a sandwich yourself. You don't need to be a chef to slap some meat and vegetables together and a homemade sandwich would have far less calories and sodium, not to mention save you loads of $$ in the long run.0

Actually Jared lived right above the Subway in school. He walked maybe 60 seconds down steps and around a corner.
To the OP: Subway diet isent something magic...is staying within your calories and being in a defecit. If you stay in a defecit and hit macros, you will lose weight...simple as that.0 -
I couldn't eat that much bread every day diet or not.........0

As far as fast food goes - Subway isn't among the worst. But to just eat Subway....NO!!!!!!!!! High Sodium, high processed foods, no fruit, no whold grain....you get the pic. Eat there when you need to grab and go...just don't make it often!0
-
I'm too cheap to do that. I rather eat more of a variety and stay in my caloric intake than that. I know the footlong is a good and cheap option, but I can make my own kind (save money) and have left overs to make for tomorrow!0

Make sure you're checking the calories/nutritional stats on the Subway.com calculator. I used to be a manager for Subway, people thought just because they ate there, they were doing themselves a favour... but their sandwich was a footlong tuna on herbs & cheese bread with extra mayo, pickles, salt & pepper. Add chips & drink and 2 chocolate chip cookies, and you're looking at some hefty damage.
All in all, you could do a lot worse than a 6" turkey (or club, or roast beef, or chicken breast) on WHITE (because the white and wheat are almost nutritiously identical, the wheat has caramel colouring to make it look like wheat bread, and the white tastes 10x better), with cheese, mustard, all the veggies, and s&p. Grab a Coke Zero, water, or unsweetened tea and add baked chips if you want. You're still faring better than if you just got a burger at Whataburger.
Still better for you, cheaper, and potentially tastier if you get the stuff and make it at home.0 -
hi everyone.. i go at least once or twice a week.. i do park the farthest ,,if that counts..0

Didnt Jared have AIDS?
I believe he did, he attributes a lot of his succes to the aids.0 -
Didn't realise that this was still a practiced "diet"0

Ummm seriously? Subway diet... does that NOT sound like a marketing campaigning tactic?
Pay someone, have him train like a demon, then get him to eat their food and say he lost eating only their food... Yes.. what about training?0 -
I believe that Jared's diet consisted of
1 - 6 inch sub for lunch
1- 12 inch sub for dinner
diet soda
and baked lays
The calculation for this would be somewhere between 1200-1500 calories. And considering... wasn't he somewhere around 300 lbs+ when he started the diet ? That is very low ... So that's why he lost so much, so fast.
Not a bad idea to keep things low, but you could substitute say, a home made chicken breast + veggies for one of those meals, and have more variety, save money, less preservatives, etc..
Good luck!0 -

There is nothing magical about it....it's a sandwich. You could make your own as well and probably even healthier. It's all about calorie deficit. Choose healthy nutritious fun tasty foods and stay within your calorie goal and you will lose. There is no reason to condemn yourself to Subway everyday unless you really like it that much.0

I don't see it on the subway.com website now, but once upon a time, they actually did have info from a dietician about how & why the Subway Diet worked for Jared. I'll try to sum up from memory:
1) Jared had a LOT of weight to lose, so one of the biggest hurdles he had to come to grips with was portion control. Jared basically ate the same thing every single day. He ate something for breakfast (I don't know -- cereal? Eggs? I honestly don't remember), then he had THE SAME foot-long sub everyday for lunch, and THE SAME 6" sub everyday for dinner. By eating the EXACT SAME THING everyday, he got his portions under control.
2) He got subs WITHOUT cheese OR mayo. I think he probably left off the oil & vinegar, too. I want to say he had the turkey sub for lunch, and maybe roast beef for dinner. Heavy on the veggies, but light on the fattening toppings. Also -- no chips, no cookie, no nothing. Unsweet tea or water to drink.
3) He did NOT do this with a doctor, dietician, or anything. Subway actually does NOT recommend this to their customers. While they will put him in front of a camera to show that he lost weight, the webpage went on to say that they do not condone this as a "healthy" diet. Probably the reason Jared is no longer a spokesperson & probably why this info is no longer on the website is because the typical person cannot go to Subway every day, chow down, and expect to lose weight.
4) He started walking. He started with just a short walk each day, then worked his way up to long distances/times. The exercise was key.
So, the point is, if you have A LOT of weight to lose, & you need help with portion control, and you ENJOY eating the EXACT SAME THING EVERY SINGLE DAY, then this can be a way to *kick-start* your weight loss. But it's not exactly the healthiest way to lose weight. And you still have to CHOOSE your sub WISELY. No meatball with extra cheese! No salami with extra mayo! NO COKES!0 -
I ate Subway ALL THE TIME when I was losing, At least 3 days a week, usually more.
Footlong chicken sub with veggies and vinegar.
Worked great for me. Filled me up with a reasonable amount of calories. And I got to choose what I wanted on it. That ain't bad at all.0 -

One of them was definitely chicken teriyaki.Probably the reason Jared is no longer a spokesperson & probably why this info is no longer on the website is because the typical person cannot go to Subway every day, chow down, and expect to lose weight.
Since weight loss is about the calorie deficit, someone could definitely do this and lose weight. There are just a lot healthier ways to do it, but for someone who doesn't cook a lot and doesn't have a lot of spare time, this is a pretty decent option. Not sure, but I think he still is a spokesman for Subway though, I saw him on last season's Biggest Loser. He came in and talked to everybody and shoved his footlongs in their faces. So, the point is, if you have A LOT of weight to lose, & you need help with portion control, and you ENJOY eating the EXACT SAME THING EVERY SINGLE DAY, then this can be a way to *kick-start* your weight loss. They have a few healthy options, but it's always cheaper, tastier, and better for you to make it at home. If you can't, it's a pretty great alternative. I have it at least once a week.
Subway - eat fresh.
*Also, if you know the trick to flip the contents of the sammich into some folded napkins and re-wrap it, you can easily buy a footlong and preserve the other half for the next day without the bread getting mushy. $5 for two meals! hooray.0 -
Also, Subway didn't contact Jared & say, "Hey -- want to lose weight? We'll pay you to eat our food!" Jared came up with this idea on his own, and THEN became the Subway spokesman. Like I said, he was looking for a way to control his portions, and this worked for him. Once Subway-corporate found out, they ran with it. (IDK -- maybe the manager at the store he ate at called the Home Office)0

If you could afford it O.o0

Great way for Subway to make money0

I think it's a bad idea to base your diet on processed lunch meat. You may lose weight, but there are healthier ways to do it. Eating a variety of foods is best to make sure you are meeting your nutritional needs.0

I am in for tomorrow.
Most of my 2800 daily calories will come from my Subway.
I eat fast food regularly (at maintenance) and have no problem hitting my macro targets.
If you have any doubt about the ability to stay fit while consuming fast food, soda or "processed meat" Google "Usain Bolt chicken nuggets"0
