How do you flavor your popcorn?

My husband and I are heading to the movies tonight so I'm going to make up a batch of air-popped popcorn to take with us. Looking for some spices to add to give it flavor without butter - what do you add to your popcorn?
Thanks! :flowerforyou:

They should come up with a butter flavored seasoning!0
-
old bay seasoning for a bit of zing...0

They have some butter flavoring...low in cal 0 i think, but very high in sodium. My hubby uses it i stopped when i saw how much. We foundsome the other day thought that was kettle korn seasoning , has low sod and like 5 cal a serving.
We usually use that spray butter0 -
Check near the popcorn in the grocery store for Kernel Season's. They make Butter, Ranch and Cheddar.0

pop in canola oil (just like the old days) sprinkle with sea salt...........yummy. Thats my snack most evenings. The flavorings you get in the store are processed and loaded with sodium. Sea Salt is actually good for you.0

What about Molly McButter or Butter Buds???0

I thought this was gross when someone told me about it, but CINNAMON is great on popcorn!!0

At Blockbuster they sell seasoning. I like the White Cheddar or the Caramel. The Caramel has 5 calories per serving. It makes the popcorn a sweet treat. The Cheddar has 2 calories. They both have 0 fat. Love it! It's Kernel seasonings.0

I use a either molly mcbutter or....gulp....soy sauce and garlic powder. The sodium is a bit high but it is soooooo good.0

We do air popped popcorn nearly every night, and have found a great solution to making your seasoning stick...
spray it with spray canola or spray olive oil (I get mine at Trader Joe's). It's zero calories, and it helps your salt stick to the popcorn. Also, we use Brewer's Yeast on our popcorn, which has a rich flavor and has vitamin B as well.0 -
A friend of mine uses fat free parmesan cheese on her air popped popcorn and it gives it a different taste with a little sea salt. I like it!!0

cinnamon and splenda/sugar0

I am a fan of seasoning salt, but again high in sodium.
I think a lot of the Ms. Dash seasonings are sodium free. Not sure what all there is but I'm sure something would be good on popcorn.0 -
I like to add parmesan cheese too!0

Cracked black pepper & a little garlic powder (not garlic SALT). Spray w/a little butter flavor cooking spray then sprinkle on the seasoning!0

Thanks for all of your suggestions guys! I decided to go with parmesan cheese and garlic powder and it was goood! :happy:0

I know this sounds weird, but on a lot of other posts people have suggested using butter flavored cooking spray. Has anyone tried this? I haven't.0

I love kettlecorn0

My son loves maple sugar!!0

Cinnamon really?? I love cinnamon so I will have to try that....just ground cinnamon or maybe mix it with splenda/sugar??
I have heard of using cayenne pepper.0 -
cayenne pepper or chili powder. Use in moderation tho, only takes a little to make it really spicy0

How did you end up liking it Kristen?0

thanks for the suggestion - I did cinnamon and Truvia. Satisfies the sweet and crunchy craving!0

we have a sprayer with vinegar and lightly coat our popcorn that way - I like mine spicy, so I'll use cayenne pepper, or just black pepper.0

I have tried a bunch of butter sprays out there specifically for air-popped popcorn and the two best I have found are the Kernal Seasonings (the same company that makes the shakers) and the Crisco Butter spray. I had to try a bunch of them to find one that didn't have an alcohol taste and the Crisco is my favorite so far.0 -
I make sure to measure it out, but I still use butter. I do however make a very small batch so I am not tempted to eat 8 cups of it:blushing:0

Please be aware that nonstick spray is still OIL and is, therefore, not 0 calories. I know, the nutrition information says it's 0 calories, but it also says the serving size is like 1/3 of a second spray. You're spraying your popcorn and your pans a lot longer than 1/3 of a second, I'll bet. A tablespoon of olive oil is 120 calories regardless of whether I sprayed it out of that can or poured it out of a bottle. The can isn't some magical calorie eliminating device. It just gets you a more even coating which then allows you to use less oil. But, if the ingredients say it contains any kind of oil, it's not 0 calories (and it's also not 0g fat).0 -
