I don't use olive oil much, but if I use something to keep stuff from sticking (canola spray, a few drops of oil, whatever) I just figure in for the calories on something else I have eaten.

Instead of an entry for: 1 egg, sunny side up
    1/4 tsp of butter

I just put 1.5 eggs, and tend to overestimate on everything anyway on purpose so I know I have covered everything I eat.

Olive oil is very calorically dense being all fat, so yes add it.

I don't use oil at all in cooking, but it is pretty high calorie, so I would think it should be added

It depends. If I spray the pan with my olive oil sprayer, no. If I add a tablespoon to a recipe, then yes.

olive oil is heavy in calories (but they're nutritious calories which is why I use olive oil).

Anything with significant calories should be added. You would be surprised at how much all these things add up and then people can't figure out why the scale is not moving !

I count everything I eat.... I love italian squash sauteed in a bit of olive oil....I use about .5 TB and list it on my diary. That .5 TB is 60 calories! It's a lot of calories not to count.

    Yes its very calorie dense.
  • I live in Spain, olive oil heaven, and have to admit: I don't count olive oil! I've lost 4.4lbs in 2 weeks by eating mainly salads, vegetables, proteins and fruits and am often under my calorie count, but don't count the salad dressing (oil, vinegar and mustard) possibly because i'm afraid to know!
From next week I am going to make an effort to, as I reckon the weight loss will slow down then!
Good luck to everyone, i'm finding this web so motivating :-)

This. And I don't like using it because even though it's good fats, it's high calories and not satiating. I'm too hungry to waste calories!
  • Depends on how I am using it. If I am using a dab of it to lightly oil a pan, then no, but anything more than half a tablespoon, yes.

    This, exactly.
  • Iv'e never added it. I use the spray most of the time. To be honest i always have lots of calorie left, so i wouldn't be over. I didn't realise it was so high though, might have to start adding it.
