Why do people always say on here that muscle is heavier than fat?
1lb of fat weighs 1lb.
1lb of muscle weighs.. guess what ... 1lb!!
1lb of anything always weighs the same!!!111!1
Hope this helps lol

Amen brother! I am pretty certain we all learned this in elementary school and in more than one class.0
-
LOL never thought about it that way. Thats too funny. But muscle is denser than fat and therefore 1 lb of muscle looks smaller than 1 lb of fat. I workout probably too much and have lost inches but not a single pound yet. If I wasnt measuring and dropping clothing sizes I would have probably backed off back to what I was doing.0

HORAY! someone who also gets fed up with this stupidity that people parade around!!!!0

agreed!! Ive been getting smaller but the number isn't changing which is kind of a bummer but at least my belly fat is going away :O)0 -
Yes it is.
Put a pound of fat and a pound of muscle in water!
The fat floats, muscle sinks. Therefore, the muscle is heavier.0 -
Not this again!
What do you think people mean when they say muscle weighs more than fat?0 -
Yes it is.

Really? Who knew.
Try this formula:
Density = Mass (g) / Volume (cm3)0 -
Muscle is denser than fat.

I suppose it would clear things up if we all said "Muscle is denser than fat". But then we'd have the people who say "What's 'dense' mean?"
...sounds like you may be one of them. :huh:0 -

Then why does a witch weigh the same as a duck??0 -
go away0
-
So by that logic, feathers are not heavier than bricks. A pound of bricks weighs the same as a pound of feathers...
And 1 pound of witch = 1 pound of duck, hahaha
Thanks for giving me a good laugh this morning0 -
are ppl really this stupid?0

Amen!0

A pound is a pound! What you're talking about is the density of the material. One lb is still one lb. Muscle is more dense than fat so will sink, whereas fat as a lipid will float on water. put a rock that weighs 1 lb in water and 1lb of oil and obviously the rock will sink because it is more dense than the water surrounding it.0 -

why does one gallon of muscle weigh more then one gallon of fat?
why does one quart of muscle weigh more then one quart of fat?
why does one liter of muscle weigh more then one liter of fat?
why does one cubic inch of muscle weigh more then one cubic inch of fat?
compare weights for equal VOLUME and muscle weighs more then fat.
this makes more sense then your skewed logic anyway.. when I say Milk is heavier then gasoline, do you not first compare them for the same volume?
when I say steel is heavier then wood , do you not compare them with identical size blocks? You wouldnt argue with me because the small steel bar in your hand weighs less then a 12' long 4x4.. you could easily see the volume diff.0 -

I would reply to them that "dense means you". lol0 -

Small rocks and churches also float.0 -
Yes, Newmoon, they are.0

No, therefore the muscle is denser. High school Chemistry, look it up. ;-) :drinker:0 -
go away

How about that.... then with this logic you and I weigh the same as 1 lb of you weighs the same as 1 lb of me, what a horse *kitten* argument this is.
Because muscle is more dense it naturally weighs more (in equal volumes). When someone says muscle weighs more than fat, they are implying by volume, since "by volume" is implied there is no reason to state it or question the validity of the statement itself.0 -

The casual conversation definition of what constitutes a heavy material vs a light material is the definition of density.0 -

Seriously, semantics. Muscle is more dense than fat. One cup of muscle will weigh more than one cup of fat.
That is what people mean when they say it. They know a pound is a pound. But I guess you feel better now you showed us all how smart you are.0 -

Because most people are talking volume when they say it and most people don't realize it. Here, let me show you:
