Muscle is not heavier than fat!

How many ways can we say muscle is more dense than fat?
Any takers...? :drinker:0 -
Why do people always say on here that muscle is heavier than fat?
1lb of fat weighs 1lb.
1lb of muscle weighs.. guess what ... 1lb!!
1lb of anything always weighs the same!!!111!1
Hope this helps lol
why does one gallon of muscle weigh more then one gallon of fat?
why does one quart of muscle weigh more then one quart of fat?
why does one liter of muscle weigh more then one liter of fat?
why does one cubic inch of muscle weigh more then one cubic inch of fat?
compare weights for equal VOLUME and muscle weighs more then fat.
this makes more sense then your skewed logic anyway.. when I say Milk is heavier then gasoline, do you not first compare them for the same volume?
when I say steel is heavier then wood , do you not compare them with identical size blocks? You wouldnt argue with me because the small steel bar in your hand weighs less then a 12' long 4x4.. you could easily see the volume diff.
This...exactly.0 -
To the original poster, if you take a piece of muscle and a piece of fat that are exactly the same size, and then weigh them, the muscle would weigh more. If you take 1 pound of each, the fat would be bigger. That's why someone who's 200 lbs of mostly fat would be bigger than someone who is 200 lbs of mostly muscle. Stop being a jerk!0

Yes it is.
Put a pound of fat and a pound of muscle in water!
The fat floats, muscle sinks. Therefore, the muscle is heavier.
Then why does a witch weigh the same as a duck??
Because she's made of wood, of course!

Because most people are talking volume when they say it and most people don't realize it. Here, let me show you:
AHH!!! This picture is exactly what I was thinking when I read this post. 7th grade health class!0 -
but my pound does not weigh a pound as I'm from the UK. I would like a lb of £'s..0

Seriously, semantics. Muscle is more dense than fat. One cup of muscle will weigh more than one cup of fat.
That is what people mean when they say it. They know a pound is a pound. But I guess you feel better now you showed us all how smart you are.
^ thank you0 -

well.. jocks have muscle..and they're traditionally pretty dense compared to eggheads that normally dont have muscle..0 -
hehehe. Thanks for the pick me up this morning. You really put some aspects of my life into perspective!0

This makes no sense. Muscle and fat don't make any noise on their own.0 -
Muscle is denser than fat.
</thread>
Thank you. Beat me to it.
It's fascinating what people will do to make themselves feel smarter than someone else.
A pound of feathers weighs the same as a pound of muscle, too, but I'm sure you'd rather not look like you have a pound of feathers under your shirt.
By the way, a pound of muscle results in a higher metabolism than a pound of jellybeans, too.0 -
LOL never thought about it that way. Thats too funny. But muscle is denser than fat and therefore 1 lb of muscle looks smaller than 1 lb of fat. I workout probably too much and have lost inches but not a single pound yet. If I wasnt measuring and dropping clothing sizes I would have probably backed off back to what I was doing.
Good for you for not being a slave to the scale. Too many of us look at that number NOT moving and get discouraged. The real test is the clothes and the tape measure. Keep up the good work.0 -

I suppose it would clear things up if we all said "Muscle is denser than fat". But then we'd have the people who say "What's 'dense' mean?"
...sounds like you may be one of them.
Oddly enough, it's probably the dense people who don't get what dense means.0 -
Wait.... is the OP Honey-Boo-Boo or an unfortunate relative??? If so, this post make total sense.0

Agreed, a certain volume of muscle will weigh more than the same volume of fat. TA-da.0
-
If you replace the amount of space that fat takes up with muscle, it will be heavier, because muscle is more dense. When people say that muscle weighs more than fat, they're talking about a human being who has burned fat and gained muscle and looks sexy as hell, but weighs more than what they started at!0
-
But what if it's 2 pounds??0

I wish I had a stone of £ but that is 14lbs0 -

^^^Is it not the density of the muscle which makes it sink?
One cup water, one cup oil.
Put in CLEAR glass jar.
Water sinks, Oil floats.
