It's dinnertime over here, and I'm eating pizza!
I make my own, with a wholegrain tortilla as the base (I much prefer thin based pizzas)
Tonight I have tomato paste, coriander (cilantro) paste, shrimp, zucchini strips, and crumbled feta cheese
It's really yummy, and it's relatively low in calories (the feta has the most calories).
I love pizza, and with this one I can eat the whole thing without feeling too guilty0 -
Look into those single serving pizza's if you want something fast. I had one of the California Kitchen (450 cal) ones last night and I must say it was good. Of course I cooked it in the oven not the microwave. I ate a salad on the side and it satisfied me and my pizza craving.0

Meatsa pizza (meat crust)
Instead of a traditional flour/dough crust, try a meat crust.
Mix ground beef and ground sausage together [or ground beef and ground chicken or turkey for a lighter variety], form into a 'crust' on the pan [I use a pie plate] and top as usual with a little pizza sauce, onion, green pepper, fresh spinach, tomatoes, etc., and a little skim milk mozzarella. Bake in the oven 45 minutes. Your gut will thank you. More satisfying than regular pizza, less gas [for those who are affected] and no guilt. Everything is healthy.0 -
I second the pita. (Use whole wheat.) When baked, it tastes just like pizza crust! And nice and small so you CAN eat the whole thing. I've had twice for dinner this week:
1 WW pita
1/4 cup organic pizza sauce
1/4 cup 2% mozz. cheese
1/2 link Jennie-O sweet italian sausage (They have spicy too, but I LOOOVE the sweet. Tastes just like "real" sausage)
Any veggies you want
Remove the sausage from casing and saute until cooked. Chop up into pieces as you cook.
Spread sauce, cooked sausage, veggies, and cheese onto pita. Bake at 350 for about 8 minutes.
According to my calculations, entire pizza WITH SAUSAGE is only 360 calories.
TIP: Sausage comes in six links per package. I cut them in half and put into a freezer zip-lock bag and keep them in the freezer. A half link defrosts in the microwave on defrost setting in less than a minute.0 -
I have to 3rd the pita suggestion!
I made pita pizzas last night and my "I don't care what I eat" boyfriend loved it (me too!).
For each pita
I used 1 toufayan multigrain pita (best option I saw in a pinch)
2 ounces boneless skinless chicken breast, skillet cooked
.5 ounces white mushrooms, sliced
2 tbs chopped onion
1/8 cup canned tomato sauce
sprinkle of garlic salt (for sauce)
sprinkle of dried basil (for sauce)
2 ounces low moisture part skim mozzeralla (I had grabbed Polly-O at the store)
Baked it for about 10 minutes at 400*F
YUM! Doing this again tonight (and I work part-time in a pizza place).
389 calories - and it was a LOT of cheese, so you could cut it down to 1oz cheese & the pizza would be 319 cals; yes the sodium is a little high but not as high as pizza from a pizza joint (920mg. Would be 720 with only 1oz cheese).
So yeah, I was very full and it was very good and I'm a little sad I didn't discover this 5 months ago.

Pizza isn't always bad. Trust me. Just knowing what's in it and what you're putting into the meal is important. Making your own might be good? I do that sometimes, control what's in it. Throw on some veggies.0

i use Thomas Sahara wheat pita. just a normal pizza sauce from a can. i add mushrooms and onions and some weight watchers mozzerella cheese. and if i calculate it right its only about 250 calories if that. and its really good.0

Quick, lazy pizza:
Thomas BetterStart English Muffin, Multi-Grain, 100cal
Roasted Garlic Pasta Sauce, Any Brand, 2 tbsp, 50cal at max
Fresh spinach leaves, 10-15cal
Dried Oregano, 5cal
White & Black Pepper, 10cal
slice of onion, minced & mixed with the pasta sauce, 15cal
Cheese (parmesan, mozzarella, goat cheese is great here), 100-200cal, depending
Put the oven to 300 and pop the 2 muffin halves in for about 6 minutes. You can also use a toaster oven. Better than the 350+ calories of salted, overprocessed grease you're getting from the fast food place. And this probably doesn't take as long as the delivery guy, either!0 -
Heh... It's cruel isn't it? makes you just wanna hit those girls that stay size 2-4 and can eat whatever they want. There are two ways of doing this. Either you can resolve to work-out enough to burn 1000 calories in one session (and you can, you just need to sacrifice your soul to the fitness gods) and eat your exercise cal's OR you can compromise.
I've found a base made with pita bread (or a low-carb, low-fat tortilla) with some tomato pasta sauce, varied vegetables and a sprinkle of chopped, thin slice ham and a spatter of cheese usually comes in at about 300 cal's. It's filling but I would say that experimenting with tastes and flavors is the way to find new favorites. It's the meat and cheese that's gonna really put the extra fat & cal's on the recipe so just use enough for taste and texture and stay away from the pep. That stuff is really badddd. LOL.0 -
I saw the idea on here to use a large portabello mushroom as the crust, then add the tomato sauce, low-fat mozzerella, and lots of veggies as toppings. If you use meat, make sure to try to use a lower fat version. However, sometimes I find that if you use lots of tasty veggies on the top, I don't need meat! Hope this helps.0

Im gonna make this for me and the bf with some tweaks. We're not the biggest fans of blue cheese so we're using colby jack and we're using jalepenos instead of green peppers and using half a can of chicken per pizza (maybe). and country crock instead of butter (at least for mine if i eat one). tada?0 -
I buy those smart ones pizzas firestoned crust LOVE THEM I just had one. I usually eat one every other week but they are great i leave it in extra long for the crispy crust0

I have this problem, too. I just cant stop. Horrible portion control pizzas. My vice is dominos. I bought a small pizza, took the slices I wanted to eat and threw out the rest. I realize this is a waste, but I dont do it very often. Or else, share with a friend.0

I know what u mean!! I can semi-satisfy my craving by using Flat Out Light wraps with all the veggies I want, 2% cheese, Cantanida pizza sauce, and get this--- TURKEY PEPPERONI !!! It taste ALOT like the real deal, just less greasy! You can also use a light pita or light english muffins. Good Luck! Check out the nutrition facts on these-- really not bad, especially if u cut the turkey pepperoni portion in half!---8 slices instead of 17!0

I personally Like Chef boyrdee pizza in a box, it gives you a bunch of different options, you can make the pizza with sauce only or you can add just parmesean cheese if you are worried about calories, I usually try to buy the cheese pizza kit, not as many calories, i make this when I am only having it for the entire day. Can also snack on it for the rest of the day, just try it the sauce is amazing.0

I love Amy's Spinach Pizza. 1/3 of an entire pizza is only 310 calories! I buy it frozen in a three pack from Costco. On pizza night, the kids get a cheesy super pizza of their choice of brand and flavor, and I make a second pizza that I can eat some of (the Amy's pizza).
I stay out of Pizza Hut, etc, because I hate to tempt myself with something that can be so hard to resist.0 -

here's a pizza "dip" recipe:
What You Need: 1 pkg. (8 oz.) PHILADELPHIA Cream Cheese, softened
1 tsp. Italian seasoning
1 pkg. (8 oz.) KRAFT Shredded Mozzarella Cheese, divided
1 cup pizza sauce
WHEAT THINS Original Crackers
HEAT oven to 350ºF.
BEAT cream cheese and seasoning with mixer until well blended. Spread onto bottom of 9-inch pie plate; top with 1 cup mozzarella, pizza sauce and remaining mozzarella.
BAKE 15 to 20 min. or until dip is heated through and cheese is melted.
SERVE with crackers.
Sorry, I don't have the nutrition info, but I use the reduced fat cream cheese version and low fat cheese anyway, and serve as a treat with reduced fat crackers. No one is the wiser, and it's always gone right away.

i take a ciabatta roll, cut in in half widthways, and put a table spoon of tomato puree on each slice. i then grate 50g low fat cheese and sprinkle half on each roll. you can put any other toppings on you want then, and make whatever pizza u like : ). after that, grill it for a few minutes until the bread becomes toasted and the cheese melts. ive just made cheese, chicken and bbq sauce, and its only about 170-180 calories a slice, and its really filling : )0

The last few weeks I've found something I've never seen before in my local HyVee Store. Its called Flatoutbread. I used it tonight topped with a small amount of pizza sauce, 4 oz of cooked Ground Turkey, green onions, green peppers and a small amound of Mozzarella Cheese. 400 Calories and it made a very filling and tasty meal. BAked it for 20 minutes and it was delecious! I'm a pizza fan and I'll probably do this quite frequently.0

I am a huge pizza eater too!
I haven't read the entire thread so I don't know if anyone suggested this, but using a pita round can be a great alternative crust. I bake mine at 375 for about 5 minutes to crisp it up, and then top it with sauce and veggies and then I've used light babybell cheese or a measured amount of italian blend shredded cheese. Pop it back in the oven til the cheese is good and bubbly. Makes a great personal sized pizza that's not insanely caloric and fattening, and pita bread is not expensive.0 -
