how about the venus index?

Has anyone used it? It looks like a straightforward heavy-lifting plan focused on strength building. And it sounds like an awesome program- but I'm wondering if anyone here has experience with it.

I've seen a handful of spam-ish posts about it. So you shouldn't have too much trouble finding info on it. try searching.

Overpriced (600 bucks for the full system) reinvention of the wheel. Don't bother. If you want to get into lifting, below is a ton of free info along with a book that is 30 bucks hard copy or 10 bucks on kindle.

holy hell. I didn't know the program was that expensive.

NO PROGRAM will cost you more than 50 or so dollars for an ebook unless it's a complete scam.

    Agreed.
  • It's about $40 for a 12 week program, and since I'm a total newb, I thought having that specific direction (a good gameplan, if you will) would be beneficial.
  • I just started this plan. I didn't check out Phase 2 or 3, but the Phase 1 was about $50. I didn't think that was too unreasonable. I'll let you know how it goes, lol. My first lifting day was yesterday. I'm sore, but that's to be expected. I won't be paying $600 for the full system, that's for sure. I'm hoping that the first phase will allow me to make good habits and get started. I'll see where I am at the end of 12 weeks.

Try New Rules of Lifting for Women. It's a 6-month program, costs about $15 for the book or you can get it from the library.
  • @rmf626- That's exactly what I was hoping to do-- I just need a good place to start, and it looks like people got good results in the 3-months time! If I look like a goddess by the end of the first round, heck, I'd probably pay anything to keep going. It's worth it to me. :) I'm going to friend you so you can tell me how it goes!
  • If you want to try a good FREE lifting program. Check out Jamie Easons LiveFit on bodybuilding.com.
You get a step by step on how to do each move, nutrition guide line, really good recipes, and little motivation videos from Jamie via emial. It's a pretty good program for free.

None of us Venus girls are employees of Venus. Those of us who have our pictures on stuff is because we entered one of their contests and placed. They run 4 contests a year and you submit before and after pictures. They get to keep the pictures and do what they want with them. Yeah they are making money, but I'm so happy with my new life I do not care.

The VI phase 1 is a great place to start. It is where I started and I was leery at first. It gave me my goals. It's not just a workout but it gives you the tools to figure this out for yourself without having to hire a coach or a PT. That is what I loved about it. It is like teaching you to fish instead of handing you a fish to eat. It flies in the face of all the rest of the diet and fitness industry. I will never look at a fitness magazine the same.

When I started my weight loss journey I just wanted to get to a size 8 and look fit. Because of the goals set fort in the phase 1 books I got to a size 2-3 and super fit. Just the one book will do it. You don't need the whole package. But the whole package is way more than a workout. It is more like a lifetime membership and it was far less when I bought it last year. You get access to leading edge information and podcasts and research. Demand is high so the price is going up. Yeah they are making money, but I am so happy with my life and having the tools to keep it that I do not care, even if they make money off me. I have my own destiny now, and it's not in selling someones products, I feel it in my gut.
  • Bobbie, thank you for the info! I'm really interested in this. I've been "muscular" all my life, but this layer of fat has sort of crept up on me, and I know I don't look as good as I could if only I knew where to start. I'm probably going to give this a shot once I finish the rest of the 30 day shred- just to be fair to that program. :P

that's absurd. and the people involved w/ it on this site should be ashamed of themselves for contributing to ripping people off.

I have been looking into this as well and I'm thinking of buying phase 1. From what I understand each workout is different, which interests me because I tend to get bored easily. I think the $40 for the first phase is reasonable....I probably wouldn't do phase 2 & phase 3 unless they go back to selling them individually.

If you purchase phase 1 on it's own it's about $40. You can purchase this alone and get awesome results.

For IMMERSION, you pay the $600 or a payment plan. But understand it's way more than just phase 2 and 3. You get access to EVERYTHING they offer, including any updates and new programs for life. If you bought everything separate, it's going to cost way more than the $600

    this.

Programming doesn't cost that kind of money. Especially not a broad program that "works for everyone". You can pay professional athletes less than this for programming that comes with nutrition and weekly chats.

I feel bad for the people who fall for it, and I'm kind of bummed the mods allow idiots to advertise for them on this site.

It's really no different than people talking about/comparing their successes with any other program, like 30 Day Shred, Insanity, or P90X.

I am looking for feedback from people who have tried this program.

There are certain basic fundamentals of weightlifting that will be present in any good lifting program, which is really all that you need as a beginner. Your success with a given program will depend on your adherence, not the program itself. Why waste money if you don't have to?

    $600?!? Holy Hell!

If you want a weight room experience and your goal is to lift heavy I will always recommend New Rules of Lifting For Women. If you're concerned about form take the other $590 (if you buy it on kindle) to buy sessions with a trainer that you can use to walk you through the proper form for the various lifts at the beginning of each stage. (the book does talk you through it and give you examples too)

If you want mucsle endurance and a cardio experience I recommend either the Les Mills Body Pump group fit classes, or the Les Mills Body Pump DVD Program.

except the p90x people aren't giving links to the program or posting the website on their profiles.

beachbody coaches catch hell from forum members too, so we aren't just picking on the venus index people. Anyone who tries to make money off of garbage usually gets their *kitten* handed to them.

Either way. I apologize for trying to save you hundreds of dollars / or preventing your advertisement thread......whichever situation it may be...you pick.

you will love it... and the fact is, it's more about changing your eating habits and understanding your body. the support you get from all who are on those forums is genuine, no BS and supportive rather than getting all defensive about this diet or that diet, or mocking you for making a decision based on your own body. the proof is in the pics... none of them got there easily, but they explain and support you throughout the entire process no matter where you are at now. It's all about encouragement, honest and friendly assistance and a group will to succeed.

This. And when you can no longer make gains with SS, but the 5/3/1 ebook or PHAT, or Madcow's for free or Practical Programming for Texas method depending on your goals and what you like. Someone could basically use some 5/3/1 template for their entire life just switching templates as they progress.

I got the package last year and it looks like the price has gone way up but it's high in demand and they offer something all the others don't. In order to understand exactly what you might have to get the basic and get into the forum to find out. No way am I going to try to explain all the stuff you get. I'm not a seller and it's not worth my time. It's not just a workout. It is access to leading edge research, podcasts, The Reverse Taper Diet, and a ton of other stuff. Personally it was well worth the price to me because, well I have a new life now and I have tools for life and access to incredible information from some guys very very educated and passionate. They worked hard and if they make money they deserve it for the awesomeness they have brought into the world. I have some destiny that I know in my gut has noting to do with selling someone elses products.

If you are doing so great with whatever you are doing keep doing it. But if you flounder like I did for 15 years and reach the end of the rope, well just the basic product got me from a size 8 to a size 2 and I'm happy and the price of the rest of the product was worth it to me because it's all still helping me keep what I achieved. Like I said I don't care if they make money, they gave me what I wanted, a new me, a new life, my own destiny.

I had the TV to myself one morning and was overwhelmed by infomercials - diets and workouts, and even the kitchen gadgets emphasing how their product can be used to make health food (like Green smoothies).

I say, if you have the money, do what makes you happy. If you find a workout that is fun and you can stick with, then it's all worth it. If you find a diet program that teaches you how to eat right, and maintain it, it's worth it.

It really is as easy as - move more/workout effectively, eat less/eat real food. I hate that it took me this long to figure that out, and I feel bad for the folks that are looking for quick fixes.

So, if Venus helps you get on track, and you can afford to spend the $40 or the $600 - do it and enjoy. If you want less expensive options - try New Rules or Stronglift 5x5. Good luck with whatever you choose to do.
