What's your best eating rule?

Only eat when I'm actually hungry, not because I'm bored or because it's breakfast/ lunch/ dinner time.
^^^^ this. Too many people look at their watch and say "oh it's noon must be time to eat" even when they are not hungry. And they wonder why we have an obesity problem in America. I have some days where I may only eat 700 calories - 1 or 2 a month. And other days when I am STARVING - again 1 or 2 a month. Just make sure I eat the good stuff and not the junk. Rest of the time I eat about 1400 cals and no junk and I'm satisfied.

Enjoy your favorite guilty pleasures, once in a while. Buy doing this you don't feel deprived. Once a week I do this, and have still managed to lose 20lbs since late July:):wink:0

Try to make most of your foods homemade or just as it is like apples.0

If I am eating at the grace of another, I will eat some of all that is offered for the meal. Whether I like the food or not is irrelevant. Oh, and fruit smoothie for breakfast. Even if I want pancakes >:-{0

I eat 2 meals (hate breakfast - and that is bad, I know) - snack awareness - calorie awareness - when in doubt look it up...can very easily make me put it down....and saying, no thank you - like today when the boss offered me a cookie.:-)...not kicking my self (too hard) when I fall off the wagon0
-
log it before I eat it!0

Hara hachi bu - eat until you're 80% full - it takes your stomach a while to send the message to your brain that you're full, so if you keep eating until you feel full, you've over eaten.0

portion control0

chew alot while eatiing and drink plenty of water0
-

Don't go to any restaurant without planning out what I'm getting in advance.0
-
Frequent small meals...0

If you can find a beer to go with it, you should have a beer with it.0

Don't drink your calories0

I don't eat the same "thing" more than once per day... at most! ie; toast for breaky, sandwich at lunch, then bread with dinner...
It's helped me alot, getting lots of variety is great0 -
Cook everything from scratch. Keep snacks simple and natural (nuts, fruit, plain yogurt). Watch portion sizes.
I generally keep my meals under 500 calories too, but it's more because I follow the above rules than deliberately try to.0 -
use the smaller salad plate for dinner :happy:0

Don't drink your calories
Oooh I like that one above, and am trying to get on top of this myself0 -
I make informed choices. Always.
One night a couple of weeks ago I really wanted a hot fudge sundae from Baskin Robbins. I'm talking brownie, two scoops of mint chocolate chip ice cream, hot fudge, whipped cream, nuts and a cherry. Instead, I looked up the nutrition information on my options as Baskin Robbins and had a single scoop of mint chocolate chip and some hot fudge. Now, I certainly wouldn't want to eat like that every day. But it totally satisfied my desire and fit within my calories for they day, or darn close anyway (I don't recall for sure).
No more of me eating what I want, then going "holy crap" when I find out the nutrition information. Informed choices. Is this worth the calorie count? If not, I don't eat it.
I'm really focusing on lowering sugar intake, and increasing protein intake. The rest just seems to be falling into line.0 -

6. Allow myself some junk food during the week as i would binge on it if i didnt have it
7. No hummus and avocado ( at least while i am in the 70's (kilos) they make me put on weight quickly
8. No dairy whatsoever ( i am lactose intolerant)
