So, I was doing my elliptical training and I decided to push myself to the full 30 minutes in one go. Around minute 20 my stomach actually started to burn. Not like my actual stomach, but I guess my ab muscles?
They continued to burn until I stopped at 30 minutes, at which point I felt like I was going to pass out and stopped.
My question is, was the burning sensation I was feeling actually fat burning? Or is that just an expression?

I would guess that was actually lactic acid buildup in your muscles.0

This. You don't feel fat "burning" or metabolizing out of your system. But the lactic acid in your muscles when working out hard will cause a burning sensation in the muscles themselves. This is a good thing, it means you're pushing yourself and your muscles are being challenged. But also listen to your body, and if it starts to hurt too much, pull back a bit or stop for the day.0 -
Lactic acid builds up in your muscles and causes that burning sensation. That's why it's called "feeling the burn". If you raise your arm in the air and hold it up like you're in school waiting for the teacher to call on you, leave it up for a while and tell me how much it burns after a minute or so. Same principle.0

Thanks for all the input. I've been doing a little googling on lactic acid and ya'll are probably right.
I hope to feel the same tomorrow! Except for the passing out part. I can do without that particular feeling.(I'm thinking I need to turn on a fan or something in my exercise room)0 -
I think the elliptical is jealous and trying to sabotage you. Keep pushing next time.0

I'm very concerned for you..did you have any blisters on your abs? Burns are quite serious and should be monitored closely...but notto long or your face will be stuck that way...0

I am going to spend the rest of the day trying to figure out how you managed to work your abs on an elliptical.0
