Super Embarrassing

Options
This is really embarrassing to even ask but I really feel I need to find out more about it :/

So I have been on this diet/workout for almost 3 months now. And since I have been, I have been having one slight problem.

I am having really big problem with controlling my rectum muscles for bowel movements. Now the question is!

Is this because of all the protein I am taking in? Is it cause my eating habits have changed do quick with extreme? Too much fiber? or should I see a doctor to see exactly? Please only reply if you have some seriously suggestions that may benefit me, or help.

Thank you.

I'm sorry you're having difficulty - can you be more specific? Do your bowels feel loose, or are you straining to push?

If you are having problems with the rectal muscles functioning (I have a large GI office of surgeons out of 300+ physicians at work), then I would suggest you talk with your PCP first (if you have an HMO plan)... if you have a plan that doesnt require a referral, then talk directly with a GI specialist who can perform an evaluation....

It could be diet, it could be muscular changes, it could be anything.... but, I would definitely suggest meeting with a healthcare practitioner...

You'll have to expand on this... like you're having accidents? are you taking any diet pills?

If you're having trouble controlling your BM's to the point of accidents, you need to see your doctor.

I am not taking any diet pills. When I feel a bowel movement coming on It's no worry. Then I feel my rectum muscle not keep closed, and they wont hold the bowel movement for some reason. Most time I am close to a bathroom I can run to. But thats not always gonna be the case.

Maybe you should see your doctor. I'm not equipped to help out with issues in your fanny.

Too much protein can cause constipation. More fiber and more water.

He's not talking about constipation. He's talking about needing to use the bathroom & almost as soon as the feeling comes on, the feeling comes out.......if you're getting me.

That definitely does not sound like it has anything to do with diet. Go get that checked out.

I don't know too much about this-- if you were taking Alli or something similar it would make sense... otherwise I'd say talk to your doc.

    Good Luck!

Correct, When I think I can hold it to the bathroom ... its not the case.

So you think I should go see a doctor then for sure? No one else has ever had this problem?

Right - he is describing the anal/rectal sphincter muscles and they are not returning back to their normal positioning after allowing the fecal material to pass... it could be a stricture, it could be a simple neurological issue (compressed nerve response), it could be anything..

But, it is definitely treatable! We have many patients at work like him who have had successful therapies....

By the "Too Much Fiber" question I am presuming you mean that it is difficult to get it out. If you are experiencing hard stools that are difficult to pass, incorporate a stool softener into your daily vitamins, I would recommend Dulcolax, they don't make you go they just draw moisture into your feces so that when you go it is much easier as it is more moist, thus softer.

Edit: Ahh, ok..read that was not the issue.

If there is some sort of kegal exercise, for the cornholio, I would try that? It's worth a try while you're waiting for a doctors appointment.

There is however, this should not go without the advice of his PCP and then a GI.... dependent on the type of insurance he has...

what? he should get advice from a PCP or GI to squeeze together his manhole? I'm not talking by using instruments or inserting anything, I'm just talking......the whole squeeze-me motion.
