breakfast?

i myself do eat breakfast but ive heard a few times on here that breakfast literally is just calories and drinking water also wakes up your metabolism after sleeping and that you dont need to eat breakfast?

im new to this whole healthy lifestyle so is that true? dont you need breakfast?
ive always been told that breakfast is the most important meal of the day

Don't worry about it. Breakfast does not wake up your metabolism.

  • I've always heard that breakfast is really important (revs up metabolism etc.,) and I eat breakfast everyday (in fact, I couldn't imagine going about my day without any food in my stomach, I'd be so tired!). Calories are energy, and you need energy to do things- therefore, I eat breakfast ; ) I don't have any scientific proof...but I'm sure if you looked into it you'd find support for eating breakfast = )

Personally I think breakfast is very important for your metabolism and also to give you a good start to your morning. A good breakfast will give you energy.

Why would you not want to eat breakfast unless you are into starving yourself?? Are you eating all your calories with only 2 meals per day? It doesn't matter what you call them, meal 1, meal 2, meal 3...whatever. Sometimes I even eat breakfast for supper!

I know when I eat breakfast I am not as hungry at lunch so I don't overeat. When I become too hungry look out I don't eat sensibly.

I would suggest you look at the post above you that quotes an actual study showing the comment re metabolism to be completely false.
  • You can eat if you want to, don't if you don't. As long as your calorie intake is comparable you'll lose a comparable amount of weight.

dmerc actually cited a study supporting his answer. None of the others giving contrary advice have. That should indicate which is the correct answer.

Intra-day meal frequency has no impact on weight loss, calories and macros remaining the same.

You don't need to "wake up" or "rev up" your metabolism; it doesn't stop or go to sleep overnight. I eat breakfast probably 3 days a week on average. The other days I don't have my first meal until the afternoon. I'm certainly not starving myself, and can easily fit my calories into the rest of the day. Lots of people use intermittent fasting to help reach their goals.

Literally speaking, breakfast means "breaking the fast", so whatever time of day you eat for the first time that day, it's breakfast. EVERYbody eats breakfast.

It doesn't matter what time you eat, as long as you eat. Check out this thread for more discussion on this: http://www.myfitnesspal.com/topics/show/529002-a-compliation-on-meal-frequency
  • I always eat breakfast and cannot live without it. I used to skip breakfast when I was 44 lbs heavier, hence including breakfast in my life had a positive effect on my weight loss journey. I don´t have scientific facts to prove my point, but I can tell you that it was one thing i´ve changed in my daily habits and it´s working for me. Good luck!

I never used to eat breakfast but then I became diabetic. Most mornings I have 2 soft boiled eggs or an ounce of cheese. They didn't say how MUCH the breakfast had to be. They recommend 6 small meals a day for me. That's plenty if you consider that since I'm 5'4", small framed, and 54 so if I want to weigh 110 I should only be eating between 1210 and 1480 calories.

I like to eat breakfast because without it I'm tired and I'm starving by my lunchtime (usually around 3-3:30pm) during my workweek. So for me, breakfast makes sense. Weekends I rarely eat an actually breakfast and usually just have a larger lunch and then dinner later.

If you're hungry for breakfast and it makes sense for you and what you're doing, then do it. Thats as simple as it is, no need to stress over it.
