I like this one better but would add "and Exercise" to the end. Like so. No-Time-For-Six-Packs? Easy Solutions To Healthy Living" (or "Quick And Easy Solutions For Healthy Living and Exercise" )
but maybe instead of quick and easy, something else should be put in, cuz lets face it, our solutions are neither quick nor easy how about Real World I.E. "Real World Solutions for Healthy Living and Exercise."
Think that's too dumbed down for people?0 -
banks LOL
There is already a "Weight Loss For Dummies Book."
You were in marketing, right? "Quick and Easy" probably not so good; you're right, this takes time. - "Easy" is something people would buy. If we don't make it "easy" they won't have time to try it, let alone buy it. As a mission we need:
1. Healthy
2. Easy
3. Food Choices
4. Do-able Exercise
I'm not thrilled with "Real World" - since it isn't very action oriented and a bit vague.
"No Time For Six-Pack Abs? Easy Solutions For Healthy Living And Exercise"
I added "Abs" in case there is (a beer) confusion. We all have time for beer

I like it. that sounds better to me!0

I like to read stories in magazines about "real" people's (not celebrities with nutritionists and trainers and personal cooks) weight loss. But I hate when the people lie about what size they are and what they weigh after the weight loss. I'm 5'4" and I weigh about 140 pounds. I usually wear a size 10. These people in the articles say they're 5'4", 140 pounds and they are down to a size 4. At my smallest 131 pounds, I never wore smaller than an 8. Losing any amout of weight is a huge accomplishment. Why do they have to exaggerate? Why can't they just be proud of it?0

I never lie. Ever. Never lied in my LIFE. I have some (swamp) land in Florida to sell you. They are draining the Everglades.0

oh, and banks,
"No Six Packs! The fitness magazine for NORMAL people"
That was your original post....probably already we are having too many meetings. We should sitck with your gut!0 -
how can I argue with that logic! and maybe a little mystery about beer would help. Hey if we can grab just 1 frat brother before his belly looks 6 months preggo, then we have done our work.0

banks,
I've tried a couple times to read through the "how to start a magazine" site you posted. Great if you have money to burn. Any thoughts on how to build a client base? How many "freebies" are to be made? I think start with something self-published.
I'm having trouble finding this to be a passion, too. I swore I wouldn't take a job in any industry that I didn't feel passionate about. Now if there were tigers involved......or solar power.......both lifetime facinations.....0 -
wow! There is some interest! I don't know if we could call it an MFP Magazine.....and just so's ya know: I have no "formal" magazine experience, but I too was a journalism major (in the days before IT ).
This is one of those great ideas that just screams DO IT! Banks, I'm going to do some research and get back to this thread.
~cm
I am also a Journalism major and will be completing my degree next year. My specialisation is writing and editing , so it would be great to be a part of this!0 -
I'm a photographer and would love to take REAL pictures of REAL people using REAL methods and solutions to weight loss and exercise. Let me know if you need anything.

The perfect magazine life style has never been realistic for me even when I was single. Now it’s so ridiculous to even think about, being married, fulltime job and two kids. I workout 5 to 3 times a week, sometimes it’s very difficult to stay on track when all you want to do is sleep when your kids do not sleep at night. I love to cook however; I need to make healthy food that my whole family will eat.0

I have no expertise whatsoever on writing or photo taking . I was enjoying how excited you all were about it and then I lost the thread. Did you all give up? Banks have you dropped off the face of the earth or are you just really busy what with the season. Anyways, Merry Christmas to you all on this thread.Bump~Karen:devil:0

Karen,
As I saw on another thread here today, you may have noticed I like to chit-chat. Can ya tell by the 700+ posts, or what gave it away ??
I was thinking about banks, too. And julieofhtewolves, and gator007, and erin (from Australia), and Washington mfpals ahertel0214 and time2wrk.
Wonder if we'll see them after the holiday??
As for the magazine - I thought about it, and it seems that although there was interest, it would be be a major investment of time and resources. I don't want to make my whole life forever-more be about the weight loss industry. I am looking for a business, not a volunteer opportunity, and I don't have the 'passion' for the magazine.

Re cooking chicken question, I used to steam my chicken in an electric skillet (with a lid) on a rack. All the fat drains to the bottom of the pan, and the skin is easily removed, ...and the chicken is still nice and moist.0

Gee Cheryl, I'm really trying to catch up in the chitchat dept. LOL I just have to spend most of my time shoveling snow lately. That and repairing school buses, I broke the door opener on mine today and had to replace it. What's your weather like out there? We are supposed to get -5 degrees tonight. I didn't think the mag would work and if you aren't into it it just isn't worth doing. Catch ya in some other posts. It always makes me wonder why people suddenly disappear from the posts. Did they reach their goal? Did they just get busy? Oh well hope they come back , they were fun.0

I have noticed through the years that during the holidays people get busy and all of my groups get really really slow. Maybe things will pick up after the first of the year. :flowerforyou:0

Good to hear you Loretta_Jo, I hope today finds you feeling well. We've been shoveling the snow here and I'm really tired of it and winter just started. I didn't mind it so much when it looked pretty falling out of the sky yesterday. lol~Karen0

Hi Karen! I’m doing well just busy. I have way more to do then I can get done lol
My son was here this past weekend helping me with my computer.
The washing machine has had a problem so I could only wash half loads. My husband got parts and fixed that today so now I have to get the wash done before Friday. I have winter clothes to get ready to wear this year as well as the backed up laundry. Ain’t life grand roflmao!
My son and his wife will be here again Friday. Things won’t slow down for us till after Christmas.
I hear you all got tons of snow. I love the snow but since we live in the deep south it is rear for us to get snow. I love to watch it fall also. It is so pretty but oh so cold.
When my son lived in Colorado I always got to see and play in the snow. He and his wife have moved back to Arkansas so my snow days are over. Last year when I was there for Thanksgiving the temperature was -11 degrees and much lower on the mountain in town. The cold I wont miss but I will miss the snow. Maybe we will get a little of the white stuff again someday.
I see your temp tonight is going to be -5. Burrr that is hurtful cold. People around here think they are going to freeze when it gets down in the 20’s lol. Folks around here just don’t know what cold is do they lol.
Stay warm girl and don’t hurt yourself shoveling snow.

Cheryl
I'm still here! I am doing okay- things have been pretty rough with the boy i have moved out here for and so I have been spending lots of time stressing and talking and not talking and bouncing all over the place emotionally! But I have lost weight and am feeling pretty good in that department, which is a relief amongst everything else!
Things are also a bit sad as it is HOT here and doesn't feel like Christmas at all. I guess I just miss my family and my home and am feeling a bit displaced which has kept me from wanting to write too much!
But it is SO good to know that I am missed and I really appreciate it Cheryl! I hope you are enjoying the holiday season so far, and have no fear, I am still lurking about reading most posts!0 -
my 2 cents; maybe the magazine could start out as a newsletter on the MFP webpage. Like this it would help the MFP community? just a thought, i can already see a new tab on the website "newsletter" or online "magazine" for that matter. Just a thought.0
