What habits have you kicked?!

Hey, I'm Tyra. I used to eat King Size Reese Fast Breaks for breakfast. I would give myself the excuse, "Hey, it's peanut butter, and that is protein!" I've kicked that habit. What did you used to do? or still struggle with?
I have a weakness for cream cheese... and especially Cream Cheese Jalapeno Poppers. I used to eat an entire box of TGIF or Kroger brand in one to two sittings... but usually within one day. about 250 calories every 3 poppers.... a whole box is about 5 or 6 servings... you do that math. HELLO WEIGHT!

Lots that I am trying to break and have succeeded for the most part:
1. Eating an entire box of Mac N Cheese
2. Soda drinking of any kind
3. Night time binging0 -
Ice cream...some one failed to tell me a 1/2 gallon WAS NOT a single serving.0

Smoking January 4,20120

SODA! I used to drink 6-8 cans of soda a day and I drank nothing else at all. I have not had a soda since June 19th when I started this. Have no plans of drinking it again. I know it's not the devil but it's something I didn't have the will power to control so it is a no no for me.0

Awesome!! I also almost got into smoking for a while. I would smoke off and on for about a month and then quit from ages 12 to 19. I'm nineteen and haven't smoked in probably a half year. I have no desire anymore. I was a social smoker.
I work at McDonald's and I have a hard time saying no to a free meal. Hey, I'm a broke college kid.
OH. And I absolutely just love cheese. did I mention that? Mac and cheese, cream cheese, nacho cheese, bosco sticks.... I've at one point thought I could be lactose intolerant and that just breaks my heart.0 -
I'm also pretty bad with the soda. And I absolutely love pickles. I could eat a whole jar on one sitting. It's a vegetable... but with lots of sodium. hahaha.0

habits i've kicked since living a healthier life eating/exercise wise-
-not drinking water daily
-skipping breakfast
-only using elliptical machines at the gym
-occasionally drinking
habits i'm trying to kick-
-diet soda (doing good with this)
-binge eating (ughh -___-)0 -
freakin' SNACKING in the nighttime!!! it was killing my conscious and my diet. since the beginning of September i've only had night time snacks maybe 10 times if i count alcohol when i go out (success compared to snacking every night)0

Eating a BOX of mac and cheese for lunch with extra shredded cheese (What? Lactose Intolerant girls love cheese!)
Baking a cake for NO REASON and frosting it and eating it in one day.
Having fries with each fast food meal. I've really come to enjoy the alternatives from green beans at Popeye's to chili at Wendy's to Broccoli at Chili's (I consider them fast food...)
Drinking super sugary sweet tea. I can do JUST lemon in my unsweetened tea now! :bigsmile:0 -
Aside from a treat here and there, I am totally sugar-free--
I was so addicted it was stupid.0 -
I smoked 2 packs a day for 23 years....quit 2 years ago and haven't missed it at all :happy:0

I actually don't drink as much pop as I used to. I used to drink three or four pops a day. I still guess I do that if I get one at McDonald's... okay. Just kidding. I haven't kicked that habit. But I try to drink a lot more water now. haha.0

Haha. I used to make homemade macaroni and cheese and use an entire block of mild cheddar. I would have added more if I hadn't used it all. haha.0 -
every now and then I get a craving for raspberry Twizzlers...I will buy a BIG bag and then eat them all...It doesn't raise my blood suger by very much, and only makes the scale go up one lb...it is, however about 1100 cals....for the most part tho, I have quit other candy products...I have a thing for Reeses...and avoid them at all costs...if I have it available, I can't stop..actually, I seem to have that problem with the Twizzlers, don't I...LOL
oh yeh, I used to drink a lot of diet coke....and have quit that and now drink orange juice when I go out to dinner...0 -
The last time I said I was going to lose weight, I would wake up in the morning and do exactly what I was supposed to. But when the night time came, I would just start eating ....and eating....and eating. Then I would say to myself, "Its ok...I'll start tomorrow."....and I would wake up in the morning and do the same thing....and say the same thing.
It was a tough habit to break....took 6 months, but it stopped when I came here. Now I do what I am supposed to do from the time I wake up till I go to bed. Not saying I am perfect, but I don't make excuses anymore.0 -
first was smoking but that was Jan 1978
Drinking after 40 years on May 22 2008
Bacon Pepperoni and all other processed meats
Most All sugar products
and Inactivity and avoiding exercise like it could kill me
turns out avoiding exercise was killing me now I exercise0 -
Now here I am... making homemade mac and cheese and drinking a diet coke... but there are oatmeal chocolate chip cookies on the table and I am not eating them! NSV!!! hahaha.0

The main thing i gave up was pepsi. I no longer drink any carbonated drinks. Also potatoe chips i am so addicted to salt and vinegar lays. I now only have a few every once in awhile.0

Eating out basically everyday. It packed on the pounds FAST.0
-
I gave up making excuses about why I couldn't do this.0

I used to drink 1-2 glasses of pop with my supper every night. I stopped on dec. 1, 2011 and haven't had a drop since except for 2 oz. of Freescale in a margarita one day. I don't miss it. It was expensive, unhealthy, and heavy to carry home from the store. I think I am better off for saying goodbye to pop!0

I kicked coca-cola and it's one of the hardest things I've done.
Harder than booze.
I can now have one drink without getting readdicted, the booze not the cola.
I was on a cheese farm this week. The Cheesemaker said the more runny the cheese the less calories so if you have to then eat Camembert or brie.0 -
I gave up making excuses about why I couldn't do this.
I love this!
I am the same. I've given up making excuses.0 -

A cheese farm?! I must go one day... and be in heaven.... and possibly constipated.0 -

This is awesome. As soon as I stopped making excuses, I started losing weight and haven't looked back. Congratulations to everyone though. These are all really great habits to break!0 -
I have given up fast food and eating in my car. I used to get a fast food breakfast on the way to work (with a super-sized soda), then a fast food lunch (also super-sized). And then once or twice a week I would get some kind of mocha frappa latte thing. WIth whipped cream. And caramel. And an extra shot.
I haven't had any of it since September 10, 2012. No, it's not very long. But the money I have saved. Holy cow. Kinda scary that I was eating every penny of our spending money. :blushing:0 -
Quit smoking .. 5 years on 2/15/2013;
Now I need to let go of my bad habits which the worst is
Honey Roasted Peanuts ... OMG I love them
Need to lay off anything white (I am diabetic) rice, potatoes, pasta. Internist said no corn or green peas as they have a High Glycemic Value ... He said nothing in a can ... I am not a soda drinker, I have been off sugar for years (at least granulated ) and only use Splenda in my Tea, Coffee and very rare soda (the Zero Sodas) ... CHEESE is another big downfall I can just start cutting chunks of Cheddar and eating it by itself but I love all kinds, American, Cheddar, Mozzarella, Parmsean and the other big one is BREAD ... love it ... I have to do it ... or it is surgery and I don't want baratric sleeve surgery.0 -
I quit smoking March 2009
Quit sugar June 2012 (I still have an occasional treat)
Quit most breads June 2012 - I still eat bread - just not a whole loaf at once
Quit fast food June 2012
Haven't had any liquor since 1982 - not because I had to but because it made me feel bad (developed hypoglycemia)
Habits I'd like to quit: diet sodas - yes it is harder to quit than anything else I've done0 -
I quite smoking. Then I gained more weight but I found that dim sims were not my friend and although I would only have 5-6 as a lunch on weekends they were really high in calories for what you were getting. I also stopped drinking Milo in the evenings. I started once again reading labels! The other bit habit was I was a cheese-a-holic. I know am very mindful of how much cheese I eat and when.0

Not in any particular order:
* working night shift / rotating shifts (I always thought I "had" to, turns out a new job meant I didn't)
* making time for foundation health activities, like preparing good food, shopping for good food, getting enough sleep
* not getting enough sleep
* using coffee as a solution to not enough sleep
* smoking
* drinking
* sugar
* starch (pasta, bread, potatoes, rice, corn)
* not reading ingredients and servings sizes (I was pretty good with the other parts of the label)
* letting other people tell me what I should or shouldn't be eating / doing to lose weight or get healthier
* unsupportive friends
* eating "surprise food" which I didn't plan to eat
* spending time with negative people
* spending time with people not working on improving their future
* skipping breakfast
* not drinking enough water
* giving up
* doing the same thing over and over again, expecting different results
Along the same lines, not exactly a habit, but I've also stopped giving up on improvements to treatments for my other health issues. In 12 months I have found 6 new treatments that have drastically increased my quality of life, giving me the energy to do all of the above. If your doctor is happy to sit back and do nothing to improve a chronic or incurable medical issue, find a new doctor, do your own research, try new things (under medical supervision), talk to your pharmacist, ask about new drugs / treatments.0
