healthy eating whilst trying to loose weight doesn't mean your supposed to be unhappy.

did it make you happy to scrape off the toppings from the pizza, put it in a tortilla and eat it?

you could have just had 2 or three pieces of pizza and a salad instead of making the world sad by doing what you did.

there's no need to punish yourself like that! pizza can be part of a balanced diet without all the

With all the cranky, crust pushing people on here I am going to congratulate you on scraping off the toppings. I also give you props on loading up with the veggies- I do that too. Very rarely is there a lot of whole grain in pizza crust, and putting the toppings on a high fiber tortilla will probably keep you full longer. Yes, you had cheese, but probably only about two servings worth. Pizza places tend to use shredded cheese which goes a lot further. I agree with the other people about adding up the toppings.
The bigger issue is why do all these people care how you eat your pizza. I like my pizza cold, in the middle of the night. Is that okay with everyone? If you enjoyed your dinner, you did fine.
  • This is the kind of math that ends up being more complicated than the federal budget...

Domino's lists 45-80 calories per slice for cheese. Take the midrange, multiply by four, add in the veggie calories, and the tortilla, and you probably come out with the equivalent of eating two slices of the pizza.

Also, it might be the case that the pizza crust, if made onsite, may be healthier for you than the store-bought tortilla (which is a processed food item).

Depending on how much cheese was on the pizza, you estimate might be slightly low. The veggies are many calories, but cheese is usually around 100 calories per 1/4 cup unless it is low fat/part skim milk then is would probably be closer to 80 calories. If it was a thin crust pizza, you may not have saved that many calories by scraping in onto the tortilla, if it was a thick crust pizza, you probably saved a lot of calories. Hope this helps.

This Domino's pizza topping calculator might be helpful for a guesstimate: https://order.dominos.com/en/pages/content/nutritional/cal-o-meter.jsp

eating pizza cold or hot or at a time of the day is fine. scraping it into a tortilla makes it NOT pizza. thats a very expensive quesadilla.

I just think thats a sad way to live. its like taking all the light out of the world.

I'm sure if you did that with every meal you could save a lot of calories, you know like scraping the strawberries out of the yoghurt into a tortilla for breakfast. draining the pasta sauce out of a ravioli, or the internals of a subway sandwich for lunch.

its not a good way to live.

just eat 2 today and two tomorrow. I couldn't watch someone scrape a pizza like that, even for caloric or dietary reasons.

you could have just had a salad or some kind of side!

I had do idea how patriotic I am about pizza.

I am with you on this one. My version of hell is being offered a pizza and then having someone scrape it to shreds before my eyes.

And they take away the wine, too.

    But, to each her own.
  • As a general rule that includes the crust, I use a rule of thumb that each slice of pizza is somewhere between 400 and 500 calories, The reason for this is simple, cheese and crust and of course if one eliminates the pepperoni that greatly reduces the calories. I love pizza but I can't fit it into my nutrition schedule and stay within limits.
I might suggest portion control and also doing a bit of study on just how much cheese and other things are on it. Once you know that, you can make good decisions.
Also enjoy your food, regardless of whether it is pizza or something else.

I'm with some others that I think this sounds extremely wasteful. And not sustainable...do you go to these extremes when you eat out or eat with others? The toppings from FOUR slices onto ONE crust?...that sounds kind of gross. It's probably better to practice some portion control.

    Just my two cents.

My name is Kathy and I'm addicted and love pizza and I'm not giving it up. I now have it only about once a month. I make or order a thin crust loaded with veggies and cheese. I will add turkey pepperoni if I make homemade. I adjust my other meals that day and workout like crazy on that day and the day after. In the past I would eat 4 slices...now I try to stop at 2...ok sometimes 3:wink:

This is a lifestyle change...I'm not giving up food that I love.

I would get a food scale. I got mine from Bed Bath & Beyond for 6 bux! That way when I get cheese or meats from the deli, I can weigh it and get the exact calorie amount. I love it. It's not a fancy digital one, classic ol' analog and it works great :)

BTW.....Ignore the below comment. As long s you're not making a habit out of doing stuff like this, then go for it and enjoy every once in a while! Good for you for even bothering to scrape it off the crust. I would have never though of that.
Threads like this digust me. scraping the toppings of a pizza onto a tortilla? suggesting dominoes pizza? Revolting.

Hmm, I ate 1.5 large pan pizzas (not slices, pizzas) the other day, still lost 2 pounds.

Moral of the story? Stop micromanaging so much, things like trying to figure out how to scrape toppings off a pizza, and then worrying about how many calories you just had because there is no way to accurately calculate it just causes stress, which raises cortisol and prevents weight loss. Keep it simple.

I kind of agree with the "respect the pizza" folks. You probably got A LOT of calories from the cheese. I think you'd be better served getting a normal pizza without cheese. Maybe just getting feta on top so you still get some cheese flavor.

    first, this is sad.
second, this seems like a huge waste of money.
third, eating an enitire pizza worths of toppings seems way more unhealthy than eating a little bit of crust.

    lastly...this is sad...

wow. actually I hate pizza crusts, I always have, and secondly it was actually really good. I don't understand why people have to be rude. all I was asking was calorie opinions, not for people to be hateful and bash my decision.

I hope your fiance did his boyfriend duties and ate the rest of your pizza that you butchered! Its ok to eat certain foods every now and then that you enjoy, I would of just left it and ate the pizza and worked out a bit more that day, or just ignored it.. You probably will still have a deficit for the week.

I don't like the crusts. Yeah he ate them. I don't see the point in eating something that I don't like. The point is that the post I posted was to ask the opinion on the calories, not for everyone to bash my decision about not eating the crust. I don't like crusts. why should I HAVE to eat them just because they're there? Also people are treating me like I'm doing this just to lose weight. I'm not. I don't like crusts, so I didn't eat them. Plain and simple.

Cheese is a killer! I usually order a small, thin-crust veggie with half cheese... But, I am also a crust lover =)

    Congrats on you weight loss!
If I don't want the carbs in the crust , ill scrape the toppings off too then figure all ingredients seperately. If I to splurge and have the crust, sometimes I scrape the topping off of a couple of slices and and them to one slice with crust - a triple topping slice!

IMO, what you did is a complete waste of food..What did you do with the crust after you scraped the toppings off?

I  pizza and will never give it up. I just limit it to when I have it....
