bananas are neither harmful NOR or they the magical food that many people seem to believe. They are higher calorie, higher carb, higher sugar than most things.
If you want to devote that many calories to your daily total, that's up to you. But dont eat them because you think they are super healthy or something like that. They are ok, and thats it.0 -
it's funny but that exact same question is what brought me here to mfp in the first place -i had googled it, and somehow i ended up here. I'm glad I did. This is a great resource!
Wow, the moldy banana ad actually did something good...!
Somehow this is a metaphor for life. It just has to be.
Even the moldiest bananas/crappiest of ads with the worst intentions ... can bring good things into your life if you let them!
 .... Sorry, that's too sappy. I'm just in a super good mood today.0 -

"I aint falling for no banana in my tailpipe!" - Axel Foley
you're not gonna fall for the banana in the tailpipe? It should be more natural, brother. It should flow out, like this - "Look, man, I ain't fallin' for no banana in my tailpipe!" See, that's more natural for us. You been hanging out with this dude too long0 -
Did you know that the ripper the banana is, the higher the immune activity is? The degree of anti-cancer effect corresponds to the degree of ripeness of the banana. This means a fully ripped banana has the highest anti-cancer property. Research shows that banana produces a substance called TNF (Tumor necrosis factors) which has the ability to combat abnormal cells. TNF refers to a group of cytokines family that can cause cell death (apoptosis). The first two members of the family to be identified were Tumor necrosis factor-alpha (TNF-α) and Tumor necrosis factor-beta (TNF-β).

Bananas are only a problem is you're A. doing low carb and it knocks you out of ketosis B. diabetic and they spike your blood sugars. I tend to avoid them because I'm diabetic and they spike my blood sugars. :sad:0

Everyone wants an easy answer to fat loss, and advertisments prey on misinformation to make money off of that. No food in of itself is going to ruin your diet, and bananas are a great food, especially in the morning. I eat one almost everyday with breakfast either in a smoothie or with peanutbutter.0

The only thing with a ripe banana is that when it starts to ripen the starches are breaking down and it tends to be more sugared so they may spike your blood sugar slightly more than a banana that's less ripe. That's true for most fruits. Someone with blood sugar issues may want to watch for over ripened fruit because of the sugar spike but other than that it's a personal preference.
I tend to like lesser ripened fruit for eating but as someone else posted the over ripe fruit is perfect for baking!!! :drinker:0 -
The more ripe a banana is the higher sugar content, better to eat when it still has a little green on the outside.0
-
They're just trying to stop people eating bananas so that they can have all the bananas to themselves. What greedy people!0

Ewwwwwww :sick:0 -
No one gets fat from eating fruit. I eat a lot of fruit. The more fruit I eat, the more weight I lose. I also find bananas are more filling than some other fruits. I'm also diabetic and my sugar levels are pretty much always looking good.0

They are better than ok. Bananas are *almost* the best fruit out there. I give slightly higher props to seedless red grapes. The best bet is to mix bananas and strawberries though.

I didn't know this about the sugar content, but I always liked my bananas more firm.... If they start to get the brown spots on the peel, well someone else gets to eat it ha ha!0 -
I don't know about the rest of you, but I didn't get fat from eating too many bananas. Just sayin.0

I actually watched the presentation from the ad sight. Funny thing is, bananas were not on the do not eat list. :laugh:0

I think you would be in the bathroom too often and that would be discouraging enough before you could ever eat enough to become obese. If i eat more than one, then it's bathroom time! More than two and WATCH OUT! CLEAR THE ROOM!
Beer and chocolate is what helped me become obese. (And and sitting around on my *kitten*!)0 -
Beer and chocolate is what helped me become obese. (And and sitting around on my *kitten*!)
beer or bananas...the point is it was too many calories that made you obese, not one type of drink or food
the calories in bananas will have the same effect as the calories in beer if they are in excess of what you need0 -
My Dad always said you never see any fat monkeys
Also I always hur hur hur at women eating them - yes im a child0 -
AAAACK did anyone see that banana the week he got eyes, a whole face, and did a little jig, then pointed to his banana crotch? AM I THE ONLY ONE WHO SAW THIS?!?!?!0

I use bananas in my morning smoothies too with a scoop of protein powder. Do you know you can freeze them. I wait til they are alittle ripe then freeze to make my smoothie alittle thicker like a shake. I agree with the above post, just to get your attention. .0

omg. it's so hard for me not to be a total smart *kitten* when i post here. i'm constantly biting my tongue. it's RAW0

Very true and I can't argue that. However, how many obese people sit down and gorge on bananas?? Replace the word banana with oreo and you have a likely scenario.
To the OP: if you like bananas, eat a banana! Remember moderation and track it in your calories and macros. Plus you get the nutritional benefits of a whole food versus something processed.0 -
I eat bananas most days, But then I have only lost 68lbs so far, so what would I know
Brilliant comment! Yeah, don't listen to anyone about "wrong" foods. If you're counting the calories in them, and you're hitting your goal, enjoy whatever you want!0 -
The ad is full of crap.
Bananas are WIN
add PB and mouthgasm ensues.

Step 1 - Find a food you can make people afraid of !
Step 2 - Advertise how evil said food is, and offer a secret alternative in the form of a powder/cleanse/shake
Step 3 - Gangnam Style
Step 4 - Deposit your riches.
^^^^Now if we can just find a food of our own that freaks people out we can be RICH0
