How many times a day do you eat?

  • I aim for 4-6 meals a day; and depending on your job your 'meal' can be a snack such as a bit of dried fruit with a protein source of your choosing

I thought of that, but unless I shove food down my throat on a bathroom break, there's not time to eat. I work in a restaurant.

    SAME exact situation!

All of them. It does not matter.

Usually 3 with big snacks in between so that makes it 5, except when it is 6.
  • any between 3-6 but in all honesty I just seem to eat all day everyday

I normally eat 3 meals with 1 or 2 snacks, but sometimes on the weekends I only eat two meals.

    Breakfast - oatmeal
    10 am - chobani
12 - deli turkey and pineapple
    3 pm - apple
6 pm - dinner (usually chicken and asparagus or broccoli)

That is a seriously small amount of food.

I honestly feel this is key to my weightloss. I eat 6-8 times a day. I make my own raw fruit smoothie in the morning, and I have a snack between every meal so I'm eating about every 2 1/2-3 hrs. Snacks are quick like low fat cereal bars or a piece of fruit. Altogether I've lost about 94lbs so my metabolism is learning. :-)
  • I do the 5-6 meals every 3 hours. around 200-400 calories

I have breakfast at 8, a snack at 11 (usually and apple and cucumber), then my lunch at 2, then dinner at 5, it really seems to work to keep me from getting hungry in between meals and dinner usually fills me up so I don't snack much after that, but if needed I would snack around 7.

Three meals (2 which are under 250 calories usually) and three snacks (2 which are under 100 calories).

Breakfast, am snack, lunch, pm snack, dinner, evening snack....and I still stay around 1200 calories a day. I don't eat fast foods, processed/packaged foods. I get alot more food for my calories!!

I take 3 bites every 14 minutes. My metabolism is TURBO MODE because of this.

Joking aside: I don't keep track, I just eat until I'm out of calories but typically it's two very big meals and I usually have 1.5 scoops of whey in my AM coffee, and ice cream or popcorn or some other treat at night.

    Lol.

I pretty much don't keep track either. I just sort of eat constantly or whenever I'm hungry (I like to snack) until I'm out of calories. I also have a snack late at night.

Eat whenever it works for you! :)

While the number of calories are key here, by eating more often it keeps your metabolism going and actually helps you to burn more fat faster.

Keep the metabolism going by keeping food in your digestive system. Let your body do the work!!!

On a typical day, 4 meals (8, 11, 2, after 5) and 1 bedtime snack. I can be flexible around events, though.

This is just plan wrong and is total myth. Eating has no effect on your metabolism beyond the TEF of what you ate. If you eat the same amout in a day, TEF is the same whether you eat once or 22 times. This misinformation gets repeated so often it's ridiculous. Eatin has no effect on your metabolism!! Zip, zilch, nada, none, zero, uh uh, nein!!

I'm big on snacking (not because I believe it has any advantage, just because it seems to work for me). I eat about 200-300 calories for breakfast, around 300ish for lunch, 400ish for dinner and the rest is 50-100 calorie snacks so I eat pretty frequently.
  • For reference, many studies have been done on number of meals vs. weight loss and the results are weak at best. See here: http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/9155494

Personally, I try to spread my food out among 5 meals every 3 hours. Ever since I was a child I found myself hungry every 3-4 hours, even if I've just had a big meal. I also found that I would get dizzy, light-headed, shaky, and agitated if I didn't eat, though doctors assure me I am not hypoglycemic. Evenly-spacing out my meals and calories has solved this.

Usually I eat 3 times a day, though I often have caloric drinks (soy milk, almond milk, V8) as snacks which can push it up to 5-6 times a day.

On days I don't work I may only eat once or twice, or I may eat all day long making it hard to count how many times (1 continuous feed, or 15 small snacks???)

I'm a 'listen to your body' type person. I feed it when I'm hungry, I try to stop when I'm full, and I ignore it when it's making unreasonable requests (or make it earn it through extra exercise if really just won't shut up).
