This is my yummy banana ice cream with strawberries, cherries(if you want) pineapple and raspberries and blueberries.

    20120903_193314.jpg

calories are approx 252 I have it with my kid and it's more than enough for the both of us, that's 126 for a huge bowl of ice cream.
I mix it up but mostly the calories will depend you how much you use of each item. My banana is 6 to 7 inches, I use a cup of frozen strawberries, 1/4 cup frozen cherries, 1/4 cup of frozen blueberries, 1/4 cup frozen raspberries, and maybe 6 or 7 frozen pieces of frozen pineapple. I also use 1/4 cup of milk (use what ever kind you want). Your best bet is to find amounts that work for you. Add what you want delete what you want. Add peanut butter and chocolate to just the banana's if you choose and adjust the milk (start with a little at a time and move up as you think you need to, it's all trial and error, you can add yogurt to if you choose but know the calorie count depends on what all you use)

I was thinking the same thing.

Ok, I'm glad that I'm not the only one.

Ice cream is one of those things that I refuse to take the "light" version. If I want ice cream, I want the real thing in all of its caloric deliciousness.

But to the OP, great idea for those that want a low cal version!

I make this all the time, love it, and so do my kids. I like making banana split ice cream, with strawberries, crushed pineapple, a little bit of chocolate sauce, and I keep a few chunks of banana to toss in at the end. sometimes I add a little bit of nuts and low fat cool whip or whipped cream, sooooo good.

Breyers does not have the mix-ins that B&J has (and the base is not as good as HD or Talenti) - its no competition imo.

I steer clear of the cartons that say "frozen dairy dessert" instead of just ICE CREAM..
Breyer's has a few of those

How does this compare to making it with just bananas?

I did that before - just get frozen squidy bananas, then mash up with the processor, don't think I added anything else.
While I like bananas, result was 'banana flavour', which I generally don't like.

Does that get covered up if a load of other fruit etc is used?

If any kind of berries are added, usually hides that flavor.
I mixed a fresh summer peach and strawberries once... devine.
