what about tuna? that is high in protein right? maybe I should eat that prior to my workout?
Yes tuna! With extra mayo because if your fat stores get too low your spleen may dry up from all the sweat you loose!0 -

Why would you eat BEFORE your workout? This confuses me. Eat AFTER!0 -

I recently started doing 30 DS. Not seeing much progress, I thought maybe I needed to get more protein. So I began chugging chocolate milk just before doing to video (I heard it helps with muscle recovery). each time I have done this I have had to stop due to horrible pains I develop...usually in my lower abdomen. Sometimes they are relieved after a uhhhhhh, trip to the bathroom. My friend thinks it is my spleen and I could have possibly damaged it with the extra protein intake. Anyone else dealing with this?
I learned this back in junior high. Never drink milk before a workout. Drink it afterwards.0 -
I have nothing to offer other than I find it impressive that so many people are able to identify exactly which random innard is causing the pain....I must learn this trick.
OMG my thoughts exactly.... I've never been able to pinpoint whether my stomach pain is in my spleen, my liver or my ovaries... I've gotta learn this magic...0 -

What time of the day are you working out? Unless it's first thing in the morning, you probably don't need any extra fuel for it.
If you feel you DO need fuel, then you should go for carbs/ sugar - a handful of raisins maybe.
Chocolate milk is recommended as a recovery drink, ie AFTER your workout. You need the protein to repair your muscles afterwards (though honestly, 30DS isn't a huge weight lifting programme)0 -
The real question is why are you doing Jillian Michaels. You know she used to be really fat right?
Jillian Michaels is awesome!0 -

For me, something with carbs (such as a banana, also helps with muscle soreness) before the workout and something with protein after works well. Most people get their protein intake afterward for muscle recovery, not the other way around. Eating right before exercising makes me ill.0 -

I eat poptarts and whey protein before I workout. Guess, I must be doing something wrong.0 -

so what? so was I....
I'm just saying I doubt she knows what she is doing.
 you're not serious. Please tell me you're not serious. And if you are  ?? Really? Just because someone was fat and now they're fit means that they "don't know what they're doing"? That's laughable, seeing as there are personal trainers our there who are fit and know nothing about what they're doing or teaching.
And you what? Wrote her biography and know everything about her and her past?0 -

Actually, a lot of people do this, and not just for that reason. Jumping around with food in your stomach can be a recipe for disaster for some of us. Considering this woman is experiencing stomach pain when eating before, eating after would make more sense.0 -

I still fail to see your point.
So what if JM was fat and now she's not?
Oh right. It's because she's making money off of people by selling her DVD's. It has nothing to do with the fact that she was fat once.
Oh and BTW I'm pretty sure that a lot of these fitness guru's out there were fat once too and they probably followed some one else's workouts and nutrition information to drop the weight and get thin and lead a healthy lifestyle. I would love to be just like them.0 -
1st - Sounds like you may well be lactose intolerant... might switch to soy or almond. I love almond myself. I haven't tried it, but someone told me the Silk Dark Chocolate Almond milk is to die for.
2nd - Unless you are famished, try eating immediately AFTER the workout. You do not want your body to be attempting to digest food when it needs all the energy and blood flow you have to get through a tough workout. If you are famished (you truly need to eat something), then wait maybe 20-30 minutes after you eat to start your workout.
And the person who asked "why are you doing Jillian Michael's?" has OBVIOUSLY not done any of her workouts! LOL I have done P90X and 30DS Level 3 and Ripped in 30 Levels 2+ can still kick my *kitten*. :happy:0 -

I played sports in school. Milk is slow to digest, so if you drink it before a workout, wait at least an hour. Otherwise, just drink it afterwards. Undigested food can cause cramping during exercise. My dad was a coach. He used to say, "A hungry dog runs quick, but a dog who just ate will be slow and want to nap."
But yeah. Try a small bit of carbs before your workout and chocolate milk after, and I'll bet you don't have any more pain.0 -

Actually Jillian Michaels started out as a kickboxer before training to become a personal trainer, then she went on to become an agent, but was fired and went back to personal trainer which led to The Biggest Loser. I listen to her podcast weekly and she is very open about her past.0 -

Sooo she wrote her program and then she lost weight to it? Is that what you are saying? She just wrote a program and said "Hey this will make me lose weight", then tried it and all of a sudden she was skinny? I wish life worked that way.0 -

Yea, see! There is no kickboxing in 30 day shred!!
Plus, I read that what really gave her the most sucess was the thighmaster and buns of steel. Not the 30 day shred.0 -

I love poptarts! Maybe if I add that with my milk it will soak it up and avoid the spleen.0 -

I am finishing up my first time with 30DS and have had success with it...I agree with the person reffering to lactose intolerance.Perhaps try not drinking cho milk until after.Good luck!0

Yeah, I don't think so. Eating before a workout is causing her PAIN, this is why I suggested to eat after. Fuel for a workout an hour or so in advance, not right before. Wow, people are so touchy on here!0 -

Seriously, what is your beef with her besides the fact that she's probably a multi-millionaire from the DVD's she has produced and she sells? Oh and being a part of The Biggest Loser.
So what if she didn't write her program to make her lose weight. Big friggen deal! I highly doubt that a lot of the people out there who are successful and selling their DVD's wrote their first programs either. What's the big deal, other then a little jealousy over the fact that she's profiting from what she does?
I'd love to be able to make work out DVD's and sell them. I think that'd be a lot of fun.0 -
OW! MY SPLEEN!0

Try drinking the chocolate milk AFTER your workout instead.
If you continue to have stomach pains after drinking the milk - see a doctor. You might be lactose intolerant. The amount of protein in chocolate milk is not going to do anything to your liver. You'd have to consume a ridiculous amount of protein for that to happen and unless you are drinking protein shakes for every meal, that probably should not be a problem.0 -

Lord, I did not realize that you were Jillians bff here to defend her. Is there a club for you people?
1. I never said I HAD a problem with her.
2. I was replying to my friend as an inside joke and you replied in such a butthurt manner I couldnt help but mess with you.
3. I own her dvd.
