    Interesting question.

I think part of the issue is that, here in the US, there is this overwhelming attitude that if one is over weight, one can't indulge by so much as 10 calories.

For example, one of the ladies I work with, her husband won't let her so much as have hot chocolate in the house because it's "fattening." Here, you have to eat nothing but lettuce 24-7 or you're a failure. Hence, the Thanksgiving PANIC!

Frankly, I think that's a major contributor to the rise in weight in our country. It's a terrible attitude to have, and one that leads very neatly to over indulgence. The US is fanatically puritanical in some ways.

That green bean casserole does sound tasty.

Our "green" dish at Thanksgiving was always brussel sprouts.

This year I'm doing grilled asparagus!

I am in love with canadian chicks.

My last name is canadian enough. I should just move there.

I'm dating a Canadian, that automatically gives me duel citizenship, right?

Do we do the holiday better? Depends on your traditions.

BUT, having it farther away from the Christmas season makes everything a little easier to swallow.

I have been curious all week while reading the forums - what is green bean casserole? I don't think I've ever had such a dish at our Thanksgivings.

It's disgusting is what it is!!! Way to ruin delicious green beans.
Mix it with cream of mushroom soup, top with cheese and french fried onions and bam... disgusting

Actually all of the typical thanksgiving food is pretty good for you!
It's mostly meat and vegetables. I guess the gravy wouldn't be, but you need some on the potatoes and stuffing!
I say enjoy family and food! It always smells soooo good too! :)

OK here is a dilemma

There is a plane crash on the America/Canadian border, its fatal, sadly :-(

In which country do they bury the survivors?

I make it with 2 cans of green beans, 1 can of condensed cream of mushroom soup. Mix together, then sprinkle with onion crumbles OR crushed potato chips (regular or sour cream and onion) and bake til warmed through. SO DELICIOUS!

Thanksgiving, at our house at least, is not that big of deal... I had no problem keeping within my calorie goals that day, even with a piece of pie :p. I don't necessarily think that makes us better though... I'm a little jealous of Americans and their HUGE family eating fest!! Christmas is definitely a bigger deal but I'm pretty sure that as long as I stear clear of the cookies & treats I'll manage just fine :)

I think it's not quite as big of a holiday here as in the States....Christmas though....eeek!! I do think it helps that out Thanksgiving is not so close to Christmas.

Canadians are to blame for Justin Beiber.
    You be the judge.

We also inflicted Celine Dion on you.

and I was going to say I love Canadians, but now... I'm a little annoyed at how they dispose of their garbage.

the problem is....as we're disposing of the garbage....you as a nation are BEGGING for it...and we Canadian, always concerned about the environment, will always recycle and rehome our unwanted things.

Even still, speaking as an eco-friendly Canadian, there's no explanation for Nickelback.

    it's rural Alberta right?

the same kind of rural Alberta that gave us Wiebo....

    you know Wiebo Ludwig?

    is that explanation enough?
