My sister has just finished a 30 day challenge of attending yoga. For her perfect attendance record they are giving her an unlimited pass for a week to give to a friend. She offered it to me and I am going to try it. If anyone does yoga could you please give me some feedback about yoga. Why do you like it, how does it benefit you, do you notice any results? Any feedback would be appreciated. Thank you.

    I love yoga and do it at least once a week! Wonderful for balance and core strength which helps you form the body you want. Once I'm in maintenance, I plan to do yoga almost everyday.

    yoga is awesome...it isnt meant to be a weight loss activity although you will get some benefit that way if you are eating in a caloric deficit

    anyone that has done yoga for 30 days straight must love it....so I bet your sister loves it.

    it helps you focus and relax and stretch and feel great

    Love yoga, as long as its not hot yoga. Its relaxing and allows me to free my mind. Results I have noticed are flexibility and strength. It has also helped with some anxiety. I have never noticed weight loss results from yoga, but I do Yin or Hatha Flow. I don't really go to yoga class for the possible physical results, mostly for the mental results. :) have fun and enjoy!

    Yoga is great. Not really a 'weight loss exercise' if you will, but fantastic for balance and flexibility, and basically fits in well in a "well balanced" fitness regime (aka cardio, strength, and flexibility).

    Yoga is great for improving what's called "functional fitness". It gives you better balance, flexibility, core strength, and overall body strength. It is also great for relaxation and stress relief. Even if meditation isn't your thing, just the act and process of yoga are great for your mind. I highly recommend it.

    (Hope this doesn't double-post, my original post disappeared) I love yoga and after a long absence, I just invested in a 6-month pass at a studio with a great instructor who is careful about the adaptations I need to do for my knee and hip (due to arthritis). I have a stressful job, and yoga makes me feel calm and strong. Also, it makes me feel graceful and beautiful! I encourage you to try it - take your time, only push as far as you're comfortable, and remember it's NOT competitive. It doesn't matter what the person next to you is doing, it's all about you.

    I love doing yoga. It is great for flexibility and balance and building strength too. The relaxation/meditation part at the end of the class makes me feel so relaxed for many hours after the class. Some of the classes are much more aerobic than others. I started doing it at home many years ago, and then went to classes at a Yoga studio, and then took classes at the YMCA. The Yoga studio had the best classes, so if you have a chance, try it out. Have fun.

    I am going to start doing weights in January, so will yoga help with my strength starting weights? My sister said she didn't really lose weight but she noticed she got more toned. My new years resolution was to lose the 16 pounds that I have gained, so far I have lost 14...2 more pounds to go! In January I am starting weights because I want to get more toned....perhaps weights and toga will go great together?

    Yoga helps to get rid of stress and stretches you out. I love it. I'd go to class every day if I could afford it. Helps with flexibility, balance, focus, alignment. Once you are aware of how your posture/alignment should be you might find yourself correcting it outside of class--I know I did. It's a good thing. :wink:

    I go to yoga once a week and I love it. I have noticed a big difference in definition since going but I have never really exercised before so I don't have much to compare it to.

    Yoga is the fountain of youth. It trains all of the little stabilizer muscles that maintain posture and form. It helps tremendously in recovering from strenuous workouts. It teaches you to relax and breathe properly. Nothing tops the sense of well being you have after a yoga session. I don't really like doing yoga, but the benefits are well worth the time and effort.

    Tried hot yoga for a month and loved it! So relaxing, really clears your mind. It is pricey, though, so I've since discontinued with it.

    Yoga is great to add into a routine. I have practiced both vinyasa and Bikram. The flexiblity, balance, and stability (core strengthening) are invaluable and help with my true fitness passion which is trail running and obstacle racing.

    As a newbie, I recommend you attend a class to learn the basics. Then there are many good instructional DVDs if you choose to do home practice. Shiva Rae is a good one.
  • I love yoga. Contrary to what others have said, it does burn calories, just not as many as some major cardio exercises. I use the DailyYoga app and do it every day. It's really done wonders for my flexibility, sleep quality, and overall health. It's really amazing. And if you intend to meditate, it's a really great segue because of how relaxed you become. The meditative state becomes much more easy to attain after a good Yoga session.
  • I love yoga. It is considered an exercise that does help with weight loss. You do get cardio out of it. The best thing I have gotten out of it is teaching myself to breathe properly! This really helps for beginner runners. I highly recommend it. It did take a few classes before I was able to actulally enjoy it.

    I did Hot Yoga 2x/week for 6 weeks before I moved to NC, I don't like Yoga, but I DO like the way it makes me feel (and I miss it)...I also lost 20#'s during that six weeks. (unfortunately, gained alot of it back)
  • yoga is essential to your fitness! it builds strength, flexibility, balance, coordination and it helps you recover from more intense workouts but at the same time it makes you sweat and feel amazing.

    There so many different types...you can go calm with hatha yoga/ pilates and then you can do power yoga with some vinyasas and makie all "flow" as yogis will say.

    Personally i do yoga about 3-4 times a week and am a demonstrator at a class twice a week and i actually look forward to it everytime because it makes you feel like a million bucks

It also increases flexibility, balance, and mobility (I have arthritis) and also improves breathing. I find that I am able to regulate my breathing much better since I started doing yoga. It also helps keep stress down. It really is a wonderful form of exercise.

    It helps my arthritis too! My local studio is a "hot yoga" studio (not Bikram) and at first I didn't care for it, but I adore the instructors so kept with it. I find that the heat helps me stretch and reach my maximum flexibility more quickly, with less pain.

    Yoga complements my strength training and running, I need those stretches just as much as I need to be strong, and I need to stretch to relax and get everything back to normal...love it...
