I guess it's not that hard

I'm realizing it's not as hard to lose as I used to think it was.

If I cut out the insanely high calorie meals I was eating regularly (mostly out at restaurants. I've done some research and some of the things I was eating were 800-1400 calories..which is what I'm supposed to eat in a day. Example: Burger and fries from TGI Friday's is over 1200 cals. Cheesecake factory choc chip cookie dough cheesecake is 1114 calories!), cut out the 250 calorie coffee I had almost daily and have only extra milk in my coffee, go from exercising NEVER to burning ~350 calories 5x/week, Chill with the oil and butter when cooking...It ends up being not THAT difficult.

...I used to think I had to eat breakfast because I was constantly told it was so important...but now I don't eat until 11, 12 or 1 when I'm actually hungry (which saves the 100-400 calories I WOULD of had because I thought I had to).

Here's my favorite part: If my boyfriend and I want to go out for that delicious high calorie meal, I can save my calories for it. I don't need to eat 5 mini meals every day. I can eat whatever, whenever, as long as I stay within calories, I don't need to sacrifice dinners with him!

I was so brainwashed...

You have been unplugged from the Matrix I'm glad you took the red pill!
  • It does get complicated, especially when we listen to what so many others are saying...and are they really getting results with what they preach...usually not. Kudos on simplifying things and going with what works for you

It's not and every point you made was a good one. I can't believe how highly fattening restaurant food can be!!!

it REALLY is! I feel like I've been born again or something. I'm just pissed I was doing it all wrong. breakfast and 5 mini meals might work for some people but not me....

I mean, yeah a lot of times I want to eat broccoli and salad and grapes! But sometimes I want friggen pizza! The reason I kept failing was because I assumed I couldn't fit a lot of stuff in my diet anymore.

    Congrats!!!!

Cutting out high calorie restaurant meals and real soda was 70% of what did it for me as well.

Seriously - I'm so excited for you and how you are going to feel!!!!

Its doctors and scientists using faulty logic and jumping to conclusions. Not eating until later is just a form of Intermittent Fasting. Just google it.

It is the same thing with calorie free soda. They claim it makes you fat because more fat people drink it. So which came first. The people getting fat or the diet soda? My theory is that it isn't the diet soda, its the Big Mac Supersized meal they got with their diet soda that made them fat. Or that they switched to diet because they are saving calories so they then can eat more food. It isn't diet soda that makes people fat. You can't get fat from 0 calories.

And then you just sorta look back at what you did before and think 'Huh. No wonder I gained weight."

IF is something I just learned about this week...love what I found out from leangains, google, and this website. The 5:2 and and 16:8/18:6 interest me a lot.. Some days I do that by accident so it was good to know I wasn't ruining everything, even if I stayed within calories.

^^ Classic, and so true ^^

It was a real eye opener for me too when I realized some meals I was eating had nearly an entire days worth of calories.

I still eat all the things I truly like too.

google IIFYM you can lose weight and eat basically anything you want. You probably shouldn't eat some thing or eat them rarely but you can eat anything.

Quick question about macros though, does that have anything to do with carbs protein fat...? or just calories?

I basically don't care about carbs or fat... I just aim for a protein target of about 30% (1g/pound of body weight for me) within my calories and let the rest fall where it will. That's about the nuts and bolts of it for me.

Macros are Protein/Fat/Carbs. Just the proper word that covers them all.

You seem serious about educating yourself. I'm not promoting them, but bodybuilding.com Losing Fat is where you may want to go. Grade school vs. Grad school.

Its can be harsh over there. But its honest, and bro science will get hammered by those in the know.

Macros refer to macronutrients: carbs/protein/fat. I've also been eating my first meal at noon and it's way easier. I much prefer stuffing my face twice a day to eating small meals.

those chain restaurants are absolutely disgusting. I don't eat there anymore.

Actually, I did go to cheesecake factory a couple of weeks ago, but had grilled salmon with asparagus. They don't offer sweet potatoes there, just the fries lol.

as for TGI fridays, apples bees etc? Absolutely, completely, hands down those most disgusting garbage you'll ever put in your mouth. Doesn't matter what dish you choose over there.

My boyfriend likes applebee's spicy chili cheese nachos, the website says 1500calories but he requests extra chili and extra cheese (it's queso..) so probably more like 2000 calories. he eats the entire thing. And he's too thin. Blows my mind... but yeah it's crazy and gross. Once you know the calories it just doesn't seem to taste as good anymore.

I'm thinking the OP and I aren't too worried about not being able to get it up

Eating 160g of protein daily usually lends itself well to getting adequate fat... 20-30% usually. But sometimes I'll just eat a doughnut.
