People underestimate my weight. They think I am my goal weight 130 (when I am 161 right now). They say "You don't need to lose any weight, you look good!"

Most people underestimate my weight because I'm thin and they don't take into account the fact that I'm tall.

Just now, a very brutally honest coworker told me 145, and this morning I weighed 158

Yeah, and how many "parsecs" does it take them to guess that? :-p
    Cute.

I'm another one who carries my weight well. My profile picture shows me at my leanest, when I weighed 144 lbs. I'm 5'5".
People typically guess that I'm around 20 lbs. lighter than I actually am.

So, everyone here says people guess lower than what they weigh! Three things are possible:

    1) Everyone carries their weight well
    2) People tend to aim low when guessing others' weights in a culture where overestimating someone's weight to their face would be extremely hurtful
    3) Only people who look thinner than they are are keen to post in this topic.

    Hmmmm...

I'm 5' 8.5" and have a big frame. At the size I am now people would expect me to weigh about 210lb or so I guess. But in actual fact I weigh 237lb. I've told people what I used to weigh and their eyes just about pop out of their sockets LOL.

When I was in my 20's a few of my workmates and myself tried to lose weight. I was about 14.5 stone I think and lost 3 stone; my work colleage was very short and she wanted to go from 8.5 stone to 8 stone. It took her just about as long to lose that weight as it did me to lose mine. In those days no-one with a slender figure seemed to weigh over 10 stone but when I got to 11.25 stone the bones in my chest were obvious and I was down to a size 14 (Kiwi sizing). I looked as good in my skin being that weight as those at 9 stone.

I really do think it is all about the size of your bones (I can't usually buy bracelets to fit me and I have to be careful with watches as well), plus your height.

Chill - it's no big deal. We know the truth and those that can't buy into it, well it's their problem. LOL
  • People guess lower for me. Way lower, makes me feel a bit heavy! I'm around 119, guesses are usually around 110 but often go below 100. Do they really think I'd look healthy if I were 5'9 and 90 lbs?

The same thing happened to me on Thanksgiving. I'm 6'0", 196, but most people thought I was around 180.

I have a chest deformity called pectus erectus which means my chest cavity is inflated to make me look like a bigger guy than I actually am but if I'm not wearing a shirt it's pretty obvious I'm overweight most people guess I was around 160 - 170 but I was actually around 200 now I'm around 184 though getting close to a normal weight for 5'7

Most women are pretty shocked to find out that I'm about 135-140. Their goals are usually about 120 or 110 and they think that I look like that goal.

People usually assume I am 25 pounds lighter than I really am.

I don't know about everyone but whenever anyone has guessed my age, it's always 5-7 years younger than I am. Weight, always less by 20-30lbs. I think it's just our nature to embellish a bit. I mean, what if someone guessed and they were right or worse, OVER!! I usually take the compilment and the actual guesses with a grain, I mean, I may not be all that but at least I'm around people who are nice : ))

A Korean pupil once said 'I bet you whinge about your weight and you're only 55kg'. I was about 65kg then. All he had to compare with were Asian teenage girls, so no wonder he got it wrong.

On the other hand, when I weighed 65kg in Japan, female pupils would make fun of how fat I was behind my back...

A parsec is a unit of distance, not time. Failed another geek check...

Most people underestimate my weight too--but I can understand that. Muscle is much heavier than fat but it takes up a lot less space and I have quite a bit of muscle under the fat layer. So I look smaller and lighter than I actually am.
  • people are absolutely shock ed when i tell them i weigh more than 300lbs. i do carry my weight very well even my doctors are shocked. my highest weight at one time was 343lbs i now weigh 311lbs i want to be 299lbs so badly by 2013. if i can go into the new year under 300 there will be no turning back from there. 12lbs to go i think i cam do it.

One time I got sick and went to a walk-in clinic. When I was touching base with the doctor about what was wrong she told me they had my weight wrong and I had to argue that I really was as heavy as the scale said I was lol

Recently, my boyfriend's brother was guessing people's weight and he guessed mine at 135lbs, which is only 2lbs less than what I really weigh.

I don't really talk to people or socialise so I don't generally have people commenting on my weight or asking what I weigh etc. I expect most people think I weigh more than I do though. I usually wear pretty baggy/unflattering clothes that make me look bigger than I am. Don't think anyone has really noticed I've lost any weight either.

most people think I weigh around 210...it's really 250. I'm lucky to have alwyas had a pretty good muscle mass which makes me more compact.

I weigh around 235 right now, but most people guess 150!!!! It's because I'm tall, wide hips, hourglass shape... I carry my weight well, I guess. Sometimes I can't even believe I weigh so much.

People think I weigh 120 and are floored when I tell them 134 lol

    800lbs.

I'm 120lbs/4'11. I've had people guess my weight correctly, and then other people think I'm much lighter than I am. Thankfully people don't say I look heavier!

By pictures, people say I look skinnier than I say I weigh. When I was 285 lbs, people usually guessed 240-260s. I've always looked really heavy though, unless I'm just well proportioned in clothes.

    Me too.

    And me this ^^^

People guess that I weigh way less than I do, but they also guess that I'm a few inches shorter than I am. I think I'm just surrounded by giants.
