I loved The Lovely Bones. The movie was cute, but the book was way better. Im also reading The Cell by Stephen King. Its an interesting book, different, but good. The Bean Trees by Barabara Kingsolver is another great book. Read it a few years ago.
    I LOVE reading :)

Of course there are the obvious Fifty Shades and Reflected series'. Now I'm on the 12th and final book of the Kelly Favor series. Yeah, I guess I like the "lady-porn" stuff

Please for the love of GOD do not attempt to read those books. Never in my life have I experienced more uncomfortably awkward, trite, forced, uneducated or just plain BAD writing in my life. And don't get me started on how the characters are awkward, forced, unconvincing, and completely underdeveloped. This is not an exaggeration. I'll repeat it: This is not an exaggeration! There are plenty of WELL-written romance novels out there that will get your nethers warm without groaning and repeatedly rolling your eyes over how GOD AWFUL those books are.

How rude. Some of us have more of a sense of adventure and humor than you do apparently. Go back to your Harlequin Romance books and leave us alone.

I have to recommend the Fever series by Karen Moning. If you like well-written occult books, these are great. The main character, Mac, really evolves throughout the series. Some people find her annoying in the first book (I didn't, I found her funny) but stick with it because she really changes. Oh, and it has the BEST male love interests ever! Barrons! He's very complex, too.

I love pretty much anything by John Grisham and Dean Koontz, BUT my favorites are the Hunger Games trilogy...

"The Hiding Place" by Corrie Ten Boom
Agreed, I liked that one too.
First choices are Jodi Picoult's books, nearly anything that revolves around WW2 especially stories of bravery, non fiction included and travelogues. Still love Laura Ingalls Wilder books even though I'm in my forties, also have lots or Erica James and Jane Green on my shelves for a gentle read.
The only things I have a hard time reading are sci-fi, poetry, Jane Austen, Shakespeare and zombie stuff. All too hard going, I read for enjoyment not to be scared into sleepless nights or intellectually challenged (had enough of that at school  )

I thought the same thing until I looked at it the second time...almost just disregarded it!
  • I love to read! I will read just about anything I can get my hands on. I just finished Gone Girl by Gillian Flynn ~ great read. My goal for the year was to read 50 books and I've already gone over that. So my 2013 goal is to read 100 books.

I'm on Goodreads if anyone is on there ~ I'm always open to suggestions for new reads. =)

    goodreads.com/Jobeth527

I was going to suggest Gillian Flynn. All three of her books are really good...if you like the chick mystery type with pretty messed up psychological thriller mixed in. She's a master at "f-ed up woman."

I throw in one of the Janet Evanovich "One for the Money" series here and there when I need a light reading break. Funny stuff.

Right now I'm reading Along Came a Spider by James Patterson.

The Help was really good, Hunger Games series, Girl with the Dragon Tattoo series are also some of my faves.

My next book will be "Age of Miracles" by Karen Thompson Walker. We'll see.

ANY of the Jack Reacher Novels by Lee Child

My Latest interesting read was Life of Pi by Yann Martel

I've recently started re-reading The Hunger Games series for the 10th or so time (LOVE)

The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo series is amazing also!

And of course, Jane Eyre...because you just can't hate a classic.
  • Any of the series by J. A. Janice were awesome!

OH. And for you Stephen King fans out there, if you haven't read The Talisman, you are missing out on a beautiful piece of literature. It is written by King under the pseudo Peter Straub. Seriously the best work I think he has ever done. It has an innocence you won't find in the other novels he has written, yet it has all the glorious imagery and horror he is famous for. FFFFFF love that book! Seriously, thank you to whoever started this thread. Books are ****ing awesome.

I loved Hunger Games, Love Jane Austin, Oscar Wilde,
The millennium series is so good...couldn't put them down no-matter how disturbing they got....wow I've read so many good ones I could go on for ages.
They have to be my favourites at the moment though.

And I hated 50 Shades of Grey, part of my lit course is editing books....it was awful seeing so many mistakes in so small a place....but I sit and correct everything...even letters from the people who own the flat I live in so maybe I am just mad :P
  • The Drake Sister's series by Christene Feehan are really good.

I love books too, but with all the changes lately, i haven't quite been able to read. Actually got about a chapter and a half done last night before bed. On the second Hunger Games book. I read really slow though. Wish it was faster. I use to fly through books.

My all time favorite book is "Dead Sleep" by Greg Illes. It's a romance mystery.

My goal is to get at least the second Hunger Games book done by the end of year. I hope to read everything on my shelves next year. LOL.

    Guns, Germs, and Steel!!!!

Have you read his book "Collapse"? He also has a new one coming out 12/31 called "The World Until Yesterday". It's on my (extremely long) wishlist of books to get for my kindle when it comes out.

I've heard this is really good. I better check it out. Is there a sequel to it too?

There are 3 books in the series. The second two, I think, are much different than the first. Not better or worse, just different. I loved them all.

I've started using GoodReads (goodreads.com/musiqueange) to track which books I've started and then abandoned and I've been trying to go back and actually finish them. I just finished my fourth of that type and brought a new one for my lunch break. :))

As far as favorites go, I enjoyed Harry Potter and John Green's books, also Hunger Games but lately I've been reading historical musical romances (if that makes sense.) It's a special taste, I guess. :)

^^^I'm right there with ya, sister! lol :drinker:
I happen to love all different types of books, but I am a fiction junkie. Some people on here are quick to criticize but keep in mind that everyone's tastes are different and sometimes you pick up a book just for the pure entertainment of it.....just my opinion :)

Attempting to read "Les Miserables" by Victor Hugo. It's a bit daunting. The book is HUGE, the pages thin and the print small. Should keep me busy for quite a while.

Others I've read and enjoyed are:

"Memoirs of a Geisha" by Arthur Golden
    "White Oleander" by Janet Fitch
"The Witching Hour" series by Anne Rice
    "IT" by Stephen King
"Hunger Games" trilogy by Suzanne Collins
    "Twilight series" by Stephenie Meyer
    "American Gods" by Neil Gaiman
"The Color Purple" by Alice Walker
    "The Help" by Kathryn Stockett
"Secret Life of Bees" by Sue Monk Kidd
"The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo" series by Stieg Larsson
"The Perks of Being A Wallflower" by Stephen Chbosky.

I'm sure there are more but...

edited to add: anything by David Sedaris is hilarious. My favorite of his is "Me Talk Pretty One Day"

One can have a sense of adventure and humor and still hate this trilogy of watered-down WTF.

Books are like the opinions about them. There are thousands and to each his/her own.

I second the Gone Girl recommendation.
Also Mrs. Peregrine's Home For Peculiar Children by Ransom Riggs.
    The Hunger Games Trilogy
    Life of Pi
Classics by Victor Hugo and Henry James.
