    I would have to say that Cormac McCarthy is my favorite author. His book, "The Road" is amazing; as are his others. Now, the movies that have been made from his books are HORRIBLE! So much of his books are based on thoughts in peoples' heads that you can't capture that in a movie.

    Best mystery novel? A good ol' classic; Agatha Christie's "And Then There Were None". Awesome book. You won't figure out who did it, I promise you. Just make sure you read what appears to be an author's note at the end or you will be lost!

    Of course, any of the classics; Charles ****ens, Thomas Hardy, Jane Austen, etc. I could go on and on for days!

    The Perks of Being A Wallflower by Stephen Chbosky.

    Have you seen the movie yet. The book is definitely better (as always) but they did a pretty good job with it.

    I'm dying to see the movie!!

    The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo series is amazing also!.

    I've heard this is really good. I better check it out. Is there a sequel to it too?

    There are 3 books in the series. The second two, I think, are much different than the first. Not better or worse, just different. I loved them all.

    Awesome, this may just be the next series I read!

    Be warned the first chapter is difficult to get through but the book in it's entirety is well worth the read. I'm glad I pushed through the first chapter (boring,slow). I thoroughly enjoyed the entire series and watched the movies in Swedish when I was finished.

    I second this recommendation - the first 50 pages of the first book are hard, but so, so worth it...just keep going. The Swedish movies are great and the US 1st movie is good too (very true to the book).

    Oh, and how could I forget a more modern writer by the name of Wally Lamb! His writings are really out there but man are they good! Two of his books, I read recently; "This Much I Know Is True" and "She's Come Undone". Both were really good!

    The next person to say Fifty Shades of Grey or Twilight were well-written, amazing series of literature is getting the virtual ***** slap.

    Just for the record, I never claimed Fifty Shades was well written, but it WAS very entertaining.


    I don't know how they ever got an accolade! It was an abhorrence of bad scripting!

    I have always been a die hard Harry Potter reader. I grew up on that stuff:love:

    I haven't really gotten much into bestsellers lists... Mostly I just ravage my town library for anything that sounds interesting. I would read ketchup packet labels if it came in a book to be honest! :blushing:

    I am looking for some series to get into if anyone has suggestions!

    Try the Wheel of Time series by Robert Jordan--its amazing, a nice long series that you will read more than once in your life. Also, the Sword of truth series and Game of Thrones

    I love Cherie Priest's Clockwork Century series. It is the only steampunk I've read that isn't terrible. Also: zombies and dirigibles! The first book is Boneshaker, but you don't have to read them in the order they were written. My favorite is Dreadnaught.

    If you like graphic novels, The Sandman, Transmetropolitan, and Preacher are all great.

    Viktor Frankle's Man's Search for Meaning is an psychology book about his experience surviving concentration camps and how that helped him develop Logotherapy.

    Tasteful Nudes by Dave Hill is hilarious. Really fun to read.

    Have you seen the American movie? I have (it was okay, they changed the ending, wtf)...just wondering if the Swedish movies are really much better. If they're also just "okay" I'll probably pass.

    I did see the American one. I thought the Swedish one was pretty decent if you don't mind sub-titles.

    I'm currently reading the Hobbit, to get ready for the movie then I'll probably read the Lord of the Rings books again, well just because you have to read those with the Hobbit...

    I'll admit I read all the Harry Potter and Hunger Games books.

    The millennium trilogy is great too (Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, Girl who played with fire, Girl who kicked the hornets nest)

    I've only read the first Song of Fire and Ice series book (Game of Thrones) so far, I love the TV series but the books are just crazy so far...

    I have been reading the Earth's Children series by Jean Auel. I'm on the third right now, The Mammoth Hunters. It's really good :)

    I am obsessed with Vampire Academy...... and its spin-off Bloodlines. Yeah they're vampire novels, but there's a lot more to them than that. Not like Twilight at all. Great story, great characters.

    Of course there are the obvious Fifty Shades and Reflected series'. Now I'm on the 12th and final book of the Kelly Favor series. Yeah, I guess I like the "lady-porn" stuff :tongue:

    Please for the love of GOD do not attempt to read those books. Never in my life have I experienced more uncomfortably awkward, trite, forced, uneducated or just plain BAD writing in my life. And don't get me started on how the characters are awkward, forced, unconvincing, and completely underdeveloped. This is not an exaggeration. I'll repeat it: This is not an exaggeration! There are plenty of WELL-written romance novels out there that will get your nethers warm without groaning and repeatedly rolling your eyes over how GOD AWFUL those books are.

    How rude. Some of us have more of a sense of adventure and humor than you do apparently. Go back to your Harlequin Romance books and leave us alone.

    I really enjoyed the Outlander series by Diana Gabaldon. Historical, adventure, fantasty and a bit of romance. Not eveyone's cup of tea but I really loved it.

    Love these! Especially the first three!

    Gawd. I mean, I actually tried to read 50 Shades. I got like 3 chapters in before I gave up.

    Is it just me or did every time the main chick said "Oh my...." it reminded you of George Tekai? I mean, how could I take it seriously after that?

    I agree, I don't think anyone did say Fifty Shades was well-written...but if they did, I'm right behind you on the b...slapping. I don't know how I made it through the first one. Two of my issues...she uses some word NO ONE uses in everyday life...then 2 pages later, there it is again. If you're going to use the Thesaurus to expand your clearly limited vocabulary, pick a different word once in awhile. Second...if I want to read smut...I don't want to read "my sex" 500 times to refer to the chicks ladyparts. Since when is that a synonym for hoo-ha? Seriously.

    Good god I don't think I've thoroughly dealt with how much I absolutely hated this book.

    ETA: My poor husband thinks it will get him more action and all it really does is get him more time listening to me b..tch about how bad this book is.

    Sandman was awesome and I'm working my way through Preacher right now. For graphic novels/comics, I'd also have to add Y: The Last Man and The Walking Dead.

    I absolutely love books. Most of my last reads are more in the line of homeschooling, motherhood, house keeping, and anything else in the domestic realm. My normal relaxing reading time is being taken up with p90x at the moment. Oh well, eventually I will get back to some "for the fun of it" reading.

    I only read mysteries. The Louise Penny, Three Pines series is wonderful. I am currently reading Keeper of Lost Causes by Jussi Adler-Olsen. It is very good too.
