So I was given a box of grapefruits and I'm not sure what to do with them. I tried baking them with stevia and cinnamon. Warm grapefruit in my mouth was not so pleasant. I saw a recipe for grapefruit cookies but that just defeats the purpose! :D Any ideas? Recipes to share?

I've never heard of cooking anything with grapefruit. When I was in college, I was on a very tight budget, especially at the end of the semester. One December, I lived on grapefruit and plain yogurt for two meals a day for a few weeks. Grapefruit lasts a long time in the fridge, if you have space. Good luck!

Cut the fruit into wedges, and then slice the fruit out of the skin with a sharp paring knife. Cut into bite sized pieces into a bowl. Add a couple of spoons of nonfat greek yogurt (with vanilla). Stir to coat the grapefruit. Sprinkle on some cinnnamon and top with chopped walnuts.

I just eat it the way it is. I'll only eat red grapefruit, though. I peel it and remove the outside of the sections so I just get the pulp...very messy, but very yummy. Most people cut them in half and scoop out the pulp with a spoon.
  • Eat 'em... one wedge at a time!
  • I have never heard of anyone baking their grapefruit - I am guessing you don't like grapefruit raw, so I am sure juicing them wouldn't be desirable, either.

You can always give them away to people who do like grapefruit.

I wish someone would give me a box of grapefruit. I love those things!

Thanks ya'll! I like them raw I just get tired of the bitterness after so many. I also wanted something creative to do so my family could eat them too!

Buy some small gift bags and give several people two or three as Christmas gifts.

Donate your excess to a food bank

Juice them and then freeze in small batches. I like to add grapefruit juice to orange juice for a little extra tang.

Grapefruit salad dressing. Use a touch of honey to cut the acidity. Great on spinach salads.

Also, remove the zest and freeze it. Great on chicken.

Refrigerate and eat them? Sorry but I love those things. Juice them, or cut them up and mix them with sweeter fruit maybe.

    This.

You can substitute it for oranges in most recipes. I had a grapefruit cake once that was incredible.

step1: place the box of grapefruit on the counter
step2: pull up a chair next to the box of grapefruits on the counter and have a seat
step3: watch grapefruit to see if it spontaneously combusts or eats itself
    step4: be amused
step5: if step 3 and 4 do not occur then eat grapefruit by chewing and swallowing
    step6: do whatever!

hope this helps your little dilemma!

Juice them. Mix with vodka and cranberry juice. Drink. Consider it healthy because it wards off scurvy.

I like making a salad with grapefruit supremes (wedges with all the pith removed) and diced up avocado. I make a simple vinaigrette with some of the grapefruit juice, a little white balsamic vinegar and olive oil. If you want to get really fancy, add some cold shrimp, lobster or crab. I like to use Bibb lettuce or arugala for my greens.

I've heard broiled grapefruit is very good.

Maybe try this one? http://asouthernfairytale.com/2012/03/12/broiled-grapefruit/ I think if you broil it, it'll carmelize and be better than just baked.

I had half a grapefruit once at a brunch, it had some candied ginger/sugar bruléed on top and it was really delicious. This recipe is probably very close:

    Grapefruit Ginger Brûlée
    1 grapefruit
2-3 tablespoons brown sugar or raw coarse sugar
1/4 - 1/2 teaspoon of fresh ginger (powdered or candied ginger works too)
    pinch of flakey sea salt

Cut your grapefruit crosswise, removing all seeds and cut round the edges and between each segment.

In a small bowl, mix the sugar, ginger and salt together and then spoon over each grapefruit. Place on a baking sheet (wipe off any excess fallen sugar from the sheet to prevent scorching) and heat under your broiler for 5-8 minutes until the sugar melts and the edges get cripsy. Or if you've got a blowtorch, use that to melt the sugar to form a golden brown and crispy surface. Serve immediately.
