What in the heck do you do with these things?? My neighbor brought us over a whole sack full, and I have never cooked one, or have even ever really thought of making/using them. I'm too lazy to look up recipes on the net - would much rather get some healthy, tasty ideas from the awesome members of MFP.

Any ideas??

You can peel them and boil them with seasoning and eat them in chunks or mash them like potatoes. If you cook a roast, you can add peeled ones with other vegetables. Look up some recipes and enjoy them. Don't be lazy. They are good for you.
  • I usually peel, quarter, boil for ~35-40 minutes with salt and splenda, and mash. Some people find the flavor to be a little strong on it's own so you can mix it with potato and mash them together which is deeeeelish. Optional-add butter/cheese.

I love turnips (rutabaga). Just boil them.

Cut them up and roast them with olive oil, salt, and a bit of rosemary. That's my favorite way to eat them!
  • Thank you for the suggestions! I will give them a try - looking forward to it!
