What type of exercise has given you the best results?

Intense weight training...easily. Cardio is fine and good, but weight training is the only way to get firm and tight. Cardio alone won't do that.0

I eat TDEE - 20%, take long walks every day, lift weights 2-3 times a week. Eating at a deficit is the main factor.0

Mix it up. Strength and cardio both, but most importantly especially do what you enjoy!0

I have been bicycling 15 miles everyday. It takes about 1 hour and 20 minutes for me, but I love it because I am outside,0

Spinning burns tons of calories and I enjoyed it when I used to do that. That plus lifting heavy and a good diet will do it for you!0

SWIMMING - combines cardio with a bit of resistance and the best low-impact exercise u can do. Burns a crap ton of calories, as well.
Got to round things out - combine with Running (if you can do it), Elliptical (my fav), and Strength Training (body weight & free weights)0 -
Best results for what? Weight loss? Weight gain? Cardio endurance increase? Musclular endurance increase? Jumping higher? Running faster? Being stronger? Looking better naked?
All of the above....maybe not the jumping though0 -
Good morning everyone!
I currently use and elliptical but I was given 30DS and Insanity for my birthday. Plan on using these as I lose a little more weight (down 8 so far).
I am interested in running. I have C25K on my phone and am seriously considering trying this soon!
Since I am just starting out, I would love to hear what form of exercise has given you your best results.
Thanks,
Maggie
Personally, I get bored easily so I am constantly changing up my workout routine. However, I am a firm believer in balance - I would reccommend that everyone get at least 30 min of cardio & 30 min of something else (whether it be strength training, endurance/agility training, circuit, etc.). I also like signing up for events to train for rather than just working out to be skinny. I find its alot more motivating than just trying to lose the pounds. For instance last year, I trained for my first triathlon. Not only did I successfully complete it, but I felt so powerful afterwards. Its a great self esteem booster when you realize you CAN do something you never thought you could. Currently I'm training for a half marathon.
Let me know how your progress goes!0 -
Have you tried intervals on the elliptical??? You go balls to the wall for 40 seconds and then walk slow for 2 minutes alternating. I tried it for the first time tonight and I have to tell you I feel awesome. It gave me a different kind of burn. I am planning on doing this 3 days per week and then I do circuit training 2 days per week. Have fun!
Cari, I am building up to this. I usually try to do the last minute of my workout at full speed giving it all I've got. Great idea!0 -
Wow! Thanks for all the replies. Love to see what you are all doing.
I see a common theme here, strength training. We have a machine in our garage and I have been doing reps 3 times a week but was considering taking a break to focus on more cardio for weight loss. I will rethink that and continue the strength training.
Thanks for taking the time!0 -
Make sure you eat throughtout the day so you're never hungry but keep your portions small and light. Be active whenever you can throughout the day, lunch breaks, after-dinner walk, etc. and fit in several hard workouts during the week combining whole body weight training and 30-45 minutes of intense cardio. Its okay to eat back 2/3 of your excercise calories. Don't eat a couple hours before bed, I use my intermittant fast time between 7pm and 8:30 or 9 Aam, which gives a good 13-14 hours without food and without feeling like you're missing out on your main meals.

I can't believe how many people got resuts with running. When I did C25K I did not lose much about 3 pounds over the whole 12 weeks it took me last time and I did not even drop a size. What has worked is Yoga. And Tabata workouts.
Although I am going to give Insanity a try come October 1.
I find the same with running, my sister drops weight almost instantly, but for me it takes months to lose a single pound of weight. What type of yoga do you do please?0 -

My faves for the best results in muscle definition:
Bicep curl
Bridges (Hip thrusts, lying)
Tricep cable presses
wall sits
pullups
push ups
hanging knee raises (tucks)0 -
Heavy weight lifting (including body weight like push-ups) doing 90% compound movements such as squats, lunges, deadlifts, overhead press, pull-ups, dips, bench press, planks, woodchops0
-
heavy lifting, increasing weights every workout. i've only lost a small amount on the scale (21 pounds) but 5 pant sizes.0

Weight training has given me the best results as far as changing how my body looks. I mix in some light cardio for its own benefits, but if I was forced to give up one or the other, the cardio would be gone without a second thought.0

Personally I think High Intensity Interval Training is one of the best ways to loose weight. Have a search and do some reading.
I swear by it for rapid increases in cardiovascular fitness and endurance as well. I enjoy long distance mountain biking, hillwalking and climbing, so whislt weight lifting can be beneficial it means nothing without cardiovascular fitness and muscular endurance.
The point is not to argue which is best, but which fits with your daily activities/hobbies as well.0 -
Kettlebells! Strength and cardio together. Fun too!0

fork put downs and plate pushaways.
Unless you mean athletic results. Then: Lifting.0 -
I found running 25-30 miles a week and circuit training with 12-15 reps per exercise. I have gained muscle and lost weight at the same time. i was not looking to get huge just cut.0
