What a serviceman makes depends on rank and many of them make more than that. They also get hazard pay in war zones and it's tax free.

They still don't get paid enough, but they make a living.

Guards where I grew up lived very well.
But the ones that make more (Generals, lieutenants, etc.) aren't usually in the front line of fire. I'm speaking of the guys that do patrols and land reconaissance.

An E-5 makes around $50K. Maybe more now, as that was the pay grade 10 years ago. And that's normal salary, not hazard pay.

Today was Christmas eve. The Inmates recieved free soda all day and every inmate was given a bag of candy. Rehabilitation does not require a lot of the crap that these guys get.

How do you suggest inmates be treated during their time in the booty house ?

Inmates should not have things that many law abiding citizens don't have. Education is wonderful. They should be allowed to get their GED. Law abiding citizens have to pay for anything more than that so a criminal shouldn't get it free. No law abiding citizen gets free cable so why should they? I think health care is a right so everyoneshould have access but it's hard for me to feel badly for a criminal who can't get timely medical care when there are millions of uninsured Americans who are postponing needed medical care because they can't afford it and have no insurance. Prison is no cake walk but I'd bet it beats being homeless or even living in severe poverty.

They should not be given things beyond thier basic needs that reguler non felons get on the outside. Training for life is one thing, but tax funded presents and ice cream socials is going way to far.

Actually that is not correct. Prisoners are typically give very decent medical care because states are afraid to be sued. There is not excessive inmate violence percentage wise as in comparison to the general public. It seems like their is but in terms of violence it is not much different. If a person does not have reguler emotional attachments to people on the outside then prison is a very pleasing option.

They do not receive stellar health care. In the instances where they do, I find it hard to complain about it. They have no job or money making opportunities while in prison - therefore they have no chance of accessing health care otherwise.

You may be comfortable denying prisoner's the ability to have bones set and vital medications given. But that just makes you one of those people who see them as animals and not as human beings.

    Fair enough for you.

By the way, I used to work at a State prison and the inmates do work and make money at their tasks. They don't make as much as minimum wage, but they do get compensated a few cents a day (depending on the job they have) for working. They can save their money to buy personal stuff from the commissary. They even get paid daily for going to school.
