Perhaps TMI, but true nonetheless. I had chronic drug induced diarrhea (stupid doctor) a couple of years ago. I lost 20lbs during that time. I'm guessing it was because anything I ate did not stay in my digestive system for any appreciable length of time.

Do not go that route. It is not good for your body.

I had what turned out to be drug induced diarrhea as well, it took 15 years to figure it out, I took a lot of Imodium to keep up with it, never got dehydrated and didn't lose any weight during this time either...

Not as exercise but it's a great way to lose weight quickly.

I am guessing the reason that people are asking this is because when you are sick (or have diarrhea for other reasons) a lot of people tend to lose a lot of weight. So I think the people asking this question do not realize that this weight loss is typically fluid loss, not fat. Though depending on how bad and how extended it tis, you could certainly be losing to much.

SO. Not a dumb question. A reasonable one for those who don't realize where the weight is being lost from when you have terrible diarrhea.
  • I guess we all know what the OP got for Christmas...

You're doing it wrong. When you write an absurd forum topic to get a laugh or to get a rise out of people, you just go ahead with the question. You don't say "this is a serious question" first. That just kills it.

I am so glad I wasn't the only person thinking that...

  • Depends...how far is the toilet ?
  • I am sure it does. The calories burned show be proportional to the unpleasantness of the experience.

Only if you lift yourself off the toilet, kind of like bench dips, while doing it.

Depends... Do you exert so much energy that you sweat buckets and your face turns red?

That sounds like a warm up...

Back a few months ago I cooked buttermilk pancakes for breakfast. It turns out the buttermilk had expired a week prior (tastes the same). I got wicked food poisoning. My weekly weigh-in was the next day and I lost 6 pounds for the week. Of course 3 days later I got on the stage and had put 3 1/2 of it back.

On the bright side, if you drink it, you don't have to log it as increased calories or increased sodium.

well, I would like to think that the OP didn't just Waste our time..... but anything is possible...
  • Actually, if it's diarrhea from food poisoning or another stomach virus, your body isn't absorbing all the nutrients in your food. I don't know how many calories of the fluid your body may be passing, but since your body is passing the food so quickly, it can't absorb or metabolize all of it so yes, you are losing calories. Isn't this a similar concept to taking laxatives for weight loss? (Please don't do that, though. It's horrible for your GI system and liver.)
